Offer You Can't Refuse || (Effie & Beaumont)
Something seemed very off. And no, it wasnāt the whole unsavory business deal with some wealthy brat out of nowhere that had him feeling that way. If she was as rich and prestigious as she said, why wasnāt she asking some professional pokemon thief instead of some random one sheād found in an alley? And besides that, she didnāt seemed all too impressed with him. So, why him?
As he silently mulled that over, and as hard as he tried not to, heād accidentally caught her eye. His stomach tied itself into an uncomfortable knot in the pit of his stomach. The bad feeling he had about this whole thing was unshakable, and that said a lot when his current career of choice was being apart of a powerful crime syndicate. He had a feeling that she wasnāt about to take no for a valid answer.
He definitely wasnāt scared of some little girl.
He lip curled with his rising anger. Darn it all to fudging heck, he was so pissed. If he thought he could punch a little girl and not kill her, he would have put some serious consideration into it. No, wait. He was trying to control his stupid anger issue. Right. He took a breath, counted, and breathed out from his nostrils. āDonāt try and intimidate me. Iām not stupid. I know how that works.ā He narrowed his eyes at her, then looked another direction.
"And donāt think youāve won, because you havenāt, butā¦" He cleared his throat. It took everything he had to not punch himself out. "⦠rent is due in a week. And Iām bored. And itāll be easy. So. What do you want?"
Effie's lips curled into a coy smile. "Oh, you aren't? You certainly had ME fooled." Finally, things were turning a corner, and it was starting to look like the little Sinclair was gonna get what she wanted. The rocket had taken the bait, hook, line, and sinker.Ā
"My big brother, Gideon, has a little Espurr. She's practically his baby, since he's a celibate, self-hating masochist and that's about as close as he'll ever get to having one. See, I really want to stick it to him, but, as you can imagine, I can't do this job myself. I need a man on the inside, doing the grunt work."
Effie reached into her pocket and pulled out a small bag, jingling with money. To her, it was just pocket change, but she expected that to this man, it could feed him with five stars for over a month. The girl gave a cat-like smirk, her eyes narrowing as her head tilted slightly.
"Here's your incentive. The rest comes later. I want the Espurr." For emphasis, she shook the coinpurse again.
"So, little fish, do we have a deal?"
