normal: losing touch with reality whilst focusing incredibly hard on something

not normal: losing touch with reality when not otherwise engaged with something else. losing touch with reality to the extent that you can’t go about your daily tasks

normal: feeling numb after hearing some big news (positive or negative)

not normal: feeling numb most (or all) of the time

normal: feeling floaty or foggy after an exhausting day or week

not normal: feeling floaty or foggy for seemingly no reason, or when you’re otherwise not exhausted

normal: after reading a book or watching a film, it takes you a while to get your brain plugged back into the real world

not normal: you feel unplugged from reality even without having engaged with media intensely

normal: you daydream to pass the time, or when you have nothing else to do

not normal: you daydream as a way of escaping from reality, and it gets in the way of your daily tasks

(these are all on a spectrum! everyone experiences dissociation, but the key is that it becomes irregular when it gets in the way of you being able to do what you need to do)

hey btw? shoutout to ppl who have a rough time with hygiene. shoutout to you if you havent showered or brushed your teeth or done any other hygiene recently. shoutout to people who can't even think of doing self care because doing basic care is too much. shoutout to people who are trying their best and their best isnt 'hygenic enough'. shoutout to people who have to prioritize things other than their hygiene because they have no other choice.

you're not gross, you're not disgusting. you're trying your hardest and that's all anyone can ever ask for. and i am proud of the effort you're making, no matter how small it seems to other people. youre doing a good job.

idc if ppl think this is an overreaction but restaurants that either have strict rules abt adults not ordering from the childrens menu or dont have smaller portion options for adults are ableist. many disabled people have varying stomach issues that mean they cannot eat large portions. my medication makes it so that eating a large portion of food causes me gut wrenching pain. some people have conditions that mean they cant eat big portions. some people simply don't have the energy to eat a lot in one go. I should not be forced into spending >£20 for a meal i physically cannot finish. Nobody should. It's ableist to assume everyone can eat large portions

Struggling with executive function be like “i need to shower” -forgets to shower “im hungry” -forgets that i am hungry until i feel sick to my stomach from not eating. “I should go to the bathroom” -almost pees pants from holding it too long and having to fast walk to the bathroom because sprinting will make you pee your pants

I think one of the most draining things about being both chronically and mentally ill is that nothing I do is ever restful. There is nothing I can do that allows my body and mind to recooperate without there being a significant cost later. Sure, some things are more restful than say, doing a high energy task. But I could lay down in bed and listen to my favorite songs. I could sit in the couch and watch a movie. I could go to sleep or take a nap. And it'd still result in more problems that I need more rest for. More pain, more fatigue, more stress piling up. It's just impossible to rest. I'm so tired, and abled people don't understand.

Honestly people should stop seeing autistic people as high/low functioning and start thinking about it like Pokemon stats.

For instance, I have a low stamina stat.   Need to bring my headphones everywhere because loud noise really wears me down.   However, there are some stats I’m quite high in.   I can eat most foods without sensory issues, and I think I can small talk quite well even if I don’t care to.

There is no such thing as the strongest (or most neurotypical) pokemon!  It depends a lot on type matchups, movesets, playstyles.   A Pokemon most people would think of as strong, like a Charizard, might struggle when faced with a rock type.  So! Give yourself an item or teach yourself a new move.

Like towels freak me out because I imagine the feeling of biting them. My hate for their texture comes from the thing I imagine when I touch them.

i hate the sounds of certain things touching (water bottles, pills, nail beds) and i get a tingly feeling in my teeth so yes?

to everyone who struggles to regularly shower/bathe, i love you. you're not unloveable. it's ok if it's been several days or weeks since you last took a shower, you are not unworthy of love and compassion just for that. you're not lazy or disgusting. whether it's mobility issues, executive dysfunction, sensory issues, gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, lack of motivation, or anything else i didn't mention, you are valid.

even if the best you can do is wipe yourself down with a towel or clean one section of yourself, it's okay. it's progress. and if you can't do that yet, it's also okay.
