BACKSTAGE HEROES
We love our Technical team here at the Exeter Northcott, so much so that we themed our new Spring Summer 2015 season brochure around them.
Photographer Matt Austin spent an afternoon with Dominic (Technical Manager), Lee (Technical Stage Manager) and Jamie (Chief Electrician) for a photocall which put the team thoroughly in the spotlight and resulted in some fantastic images.
These photos are super majestic, but why is it all white dudes?
I looked through their entire brochure and apparently there are no women in technical theatre. Which is odd since my time at LAMDA was almost all women.
Seriously guys, is there really any need to comment on the fact that one regional venue in Devon happens to have an all male or all white technical team? This isn’t a photoshoot for theatre overall, it’s literally a shoot for one venue. Can’t we just appreciate the photos and the fact that there’s a theatre putting their tech crew in the spotlight when techies generally don’t get that recognition?
Thanks! As pointed out, this isn't a photoshoot for theatre overall, nor is it a photoshoot of our overall Technical Team. Of course, we have and do work with female Technicians, it just so happens that on the day these wonderful images were taken only 3 male Technicians wanted to be photographed.

Setting up under the stage for the opening night of Evita!
Extract from The Independent's review of Wolf Hall. We don't mean to brag but actually, distinguished Independent newspaper, Mark Rylance appeared at our lovely theatre in December 2014! Just before Christmas we held our inaugural Charity Command Performance which brought together luminaries from stage and screen in exceptionally unique music and spoken word performances which raised a considerable amount of money for the theatre.
How lucky we were and how fortunate our audience was to witness Mark Rylance live in Exeter.

Inside the Exeter Northcott...
Jamie and Lee have been sprucing up the backstage area, including giving the dressing rooms a lick of paint. Leo and Dom heralded a brave new world for stationary storage with a radically redesigned cupboard (the moving of the photocopier also provided lots of 'oooh'ing from everyone.) Paul eradicated all mentions of THAT Scottish play, Jenny mentioned THAT Scottish play in the weekly meeting and Gareth has been dealing with ticket requests for the nearly sold out Dr Lucy Worsley show whilst trying to contain his excitement at meeting the lady herself.
