#the framing of these poses kills me every time #his hands are up technically in surrender or supplication but they’re in her space #and they’re covered in blood #and she’s BRANDISHING A PEN AS A WEAPON #so his hands are in her space and hers are in his and they’re pivoting around their bloody hands like dancing #(and that pen is not ~accidentally symbolic AT ALL) #(GdT explicitly says the pen represents her power through her writing) #(which she stops doing when she gets to allerdale hall) #(and is only seen writing again by writing her name just before she fights back) #(yah so i’ve been listening to the commentary and getting emo about gothic archetypes how’s your night going)
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
the other day a friend of a friend referred to "busting out of your abdomen like the alien from the Predator films" and I was completely caught off guard. like I guess that's - that's not wrong. the alien was. okay she was in the Predator films. well some of them. but like. she had her own. she's the alien from the Alien films. like. they have her name on them. he's not "King Kong from the Godzilla films"
there's also a reason it's not called an "abdomenburster" but one issue at a time
it's like when headlines refer to a famous woman via her husband. that's not "Predator's wife" she's got her own franchise!!

connections between the humane, the monstrous, and the divine:
1. “Wanna make a monster? Take the parts of yourself that make you uncomfortable–your weaknesses, bad thoughts, vanities, and hungers–and pretend they’re across the room. It’s too ugly to be human. It’s too ugly to be you. Children are afraid of the dark because they have nothing real to work with. Adults are afraid of themselves.” (richard siken, from editor’s pages: black telephone)
2. “Who has not asked himself at some time or other: am I a monster or is this what it means to be a person?” (clarice lispector, the hour of the star)
3. “This beast, this angel is both you and I.” (adrienne rich, from the complete poems: this beast, this angel)
4. “Frankenstein not only gives form to the dialetic of monstrosity itself and raises questions about the pleasures and dangers of textual production, it also demands a rethinking of the entire Gothic genre in terms of who rather than what is the object of terror. By focusing upon the body as the locus of fear, Shelley’s novel suggests that it is people (or at least bodies) who terrify people, not ghosts or gods, devils or monks, windswept castles or labyrinthine monasteries.” (j. halberstam, skin shows: gothic horror and the technology of monsters)
5. “Monsters exist because they are part of the divine plan, and in the horrible features of those same monsters the power of the creator is revealed.” (umberto eco, the name of the rose)
6. “But girls contain multitudes. We are made up of so many odd parts. The reason that the monster in Frankenstein is so memorable is that, when it opens its mouth, out comes the voice of an alienated teenage girl.” (heather o’neill, portrait of the artist as a young corpse)
7. “God should have made girls lethal when he made monsters of men.” (elisabeth hewer, wishing for birds)
8. “I think the devil doesn’t exist, but man has created him, he has created him in his own image and likeness.” (fyodor dostoevsky, the brothers karamazov)

what if on Taskmaster one of the contestants died in the middle of filming a task but after doing enough of the task for it to be deemed complete so since there was nothing in the rules to say you had to be alive throughout they allowed it. & then all the other contestants bombed so badly that the dead person won the task and in the studio Greg was there like 'wow you all managed to do worse than Christine and she was dead for most of it'
they don't sub in a replacement contestant for the studio shows so one of the chairs is just empty and sometimes when contestants are arguing their case on something they're like 'I think if Christine was still with us she'd take my side' and Greg would be like 'for fuck's sake stop bringing up Christine'
also everyone (Greg included) would dunk on Alex for 'killing Christine' with the task and Alex would keep nervously laughing it off and be like 'legally speaking we weren't responsible for what happened to Christine'
the interstitials for the season occasionally feature randomly inserted shots of Christine's lifeless body lying on the ground
obviously it would already have been announced that Christine died filming Taskmaster but during the show they wouldn't say which task it happened in so every time there's a Christine segment it'd be like is this the one where she died 🤔 let's watch and find out

"Beleaguered" is a wonderfully expressive word. I am beset by troubles so manifold that they have formed a league. I am playing host to a diplomatic summit of the United Nations of Fuckery, and negotiations are not going well.

Stiles scaled the gym's rock wall in like three seconds and I think that's important to know about a guy named Mischief
dude, first time we meet stiles, he's crawling around scott's porch roof, then hangs himself upsidedown from it, and doesn't fall off when he and scott is screaming a flailing at each other, then jumps of it onto the grass, easily. stiles has always been athletic, he's just has a more expressive body language then most kids, which people judge him on, and gets surrounded by supernaturally strong and fast people.
there's no real evidence in the show, but i firmly believe that before scott got bit, stiles limited the physically demanding things he did, so scott wouldn't feel left out because of his asthma. he never seems as intrested in lacrosse or as upset about benchwarming as scott. we see him exhausted at practice, when they they're running, but he's running against sports nuts and werewolves, and considering how relatively easily he otherwise keeps up with the wolves, with full days doing ordinary yhings and long nights doing supernatural things, stamina is not his problem. he might not be the best runner around, even from a human standpoint, but the only reason stiles keep looking weaker then everyone else is because everyone he knows is a supernatural creature or trained to fight them.
stiles gets beat up almost as much as the others do, stays up and active just as long, he doesn't have super healing and he still keeps up with them.
