My dad does research for cancer treatments at a big public university, and his research is totally fucked as a result of cutting research grants from the NIH. Public universities are super important to this research, because frankly cancer treatment isn’t the most profitable scientific research avenue that exists in the world. The NIH has been cut, the National Science Foundation, a whole lot. It also sucks because grants weren’t easy to secure before, but now it’s totally impossible

I was sooo hyped about the new pope and my coworker was asked if I was Catholic and I said no but I just get really into this stuff (true) but really it’s also very exciting that there wasn’t a distinct pendulum swing for a conservative pope. Because Pope Francis really was the Liberal Guy in global politics and if he were replaced by someone very conservative I would not be surprised but it would feel like we were continuing on this bummer trajectory but no!! We got a Chicago guy who supports poor people and immigrants!! And I am so hyped!
