no leaves, but plenty of eyes.
inspired by me spacing out on a long drive & staring at trees. this happened earlier this year, and birches ended up growing leaves before i finished the doll.
all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.

Fabulous and inspiring, thank you so much!

I cannot think of an example off the top of my head, but I am certain there are retellings of the Odyssey that do exactly that
The Odyssey, based in Mississippi during the Great Depression.
Clooney won a golden globe for best actor, the original soundtrack won a fuck ton of awards, and it had two Oscar nominations.
Also, folks should do themselves the joy of watching the 1996 Romeo and Juliet movie.
Like literally one of the most fun "imagine if Shakespeare took place in a different setting." It was so much fun. It's modern day California "Verona Beach" but like... what if we don't change the dialogue at all.
go ahead be gone with it

3. What got you started podficcing?
So kinda two things:
I started sharing some of my fav fics with my partner (namely Chance by SallyExactly MCU fic (Clint+Natasha but they're both asexual and aromantic but also insane about each other, I do still recommend though second work hasn't updated since 2015). I read the both parts for a total of almost 500k as a bedtime routine together with them.
I stumbled upon the fact that people record audiobooks for fanfics??? My mind was blown. I am not sure how I stumbled upon it but the podfic was the Play It Again podfic (Teen Wolf by metisket read by mothlights). I didn't know making audiobooks was a thing just anyone could do!
Wild times. I still say someday I will actually record and post Chance as a tribute to my start, but like... I can't make it through the first chapter. It's where my perfectionist tendencies holding me hostage. I've gotten way etter at beating them off
70. Do you remember a podfic comment that made you particularly happy?
Do I remember? lolololol. Not only do I remember, but I have it in my head now to cross stitch it. I love it so much. Highest of complements. I laughed SO HARD when I got this one. I absolutely lose it whenever I think about it. I try to live up to this with every podfic I make now. And truly, are any of us okay?
A new batch of @artomat blocks is in progress - here are some chromatically arranged.
Sometimes I think about the fact that Rocky was out there alone for 46 years and then Grace shows up and just… fuckin solves the problem that's been plaguing two entire species in, what? A matter of weeks??
And like yeah, obviously there's more to it than that. They're a team, a Grace alone would have probably died trying to get the samples from Adrian. Or, tbh, might have never got out of his original Mental Breakdown phase and just gone fully crazy.
But from Rocky's perspective, this has to feel insane. Like we talk a lot about Grace feeling inferior to Rocky, but there's no way that Rocky wouldn't have a similar (or worse) complex about Grace.
And this isn't getting into the fact that (from Rocky's perspective) the moment he leaves Grace, everything goes to hell again. Goes to hell again because, as he later finds out, Grace bred the taumoeba in xenonite breeder tanks that Rocky designed.
Do we think he wondered, on the way back to Erid, whether things would have been fixed 46 years ago if it had been one of the Blip-A scientists who survived, and he'd just succumbed to the radiation?
Do we think Grace had to reassure him, over and over, that it was if anything Grace's fault for not foreseeing that the taumoeba would adapt to the xenonite, and that there was no way that Rocky could have designed the tanks better?
Do we think he felt like an imposter when they got back to Erid and were both hailed as saviours, because it was Grace who had done the science, Grace who had made the sacrifices, while all Rocky did was wait for him to get there?
Every time I'm forced by circumstance to hand-sew something, I remember a fairytale I once read. There are lead-up shenanigans as the humble protagonist helps small animals and meets the princess and all that, but in the climax, the princess rigs a contest for her hand by setting her own task: sew her a dress in a single night.
The noble suitors, who have never sewn a thing in their lives, sabotage themselves by their own ambitions: they choose difficult fabrics to work with and cut huge, elaborate patterns and select gems and pearls and beads to sew onto it, and snip such long bits of thread that they lose time detangling their stitches, and ultimately resort to pinning bits together as they run out of time, so that their offerings initially look beautiful and flashy, but when the princess tries them on they stick her with pin ends and fall apart as she moves.
The humble protagonist uses a very simple pattern without embellishments and sews using short lengths of thread (snipped off and threaded for him by little birds of course) which don't tangle and therefore save time. His dress is plain by contrast, but holds together and the princess is able to move freely in it, and so he wins the contest and her hand.
I particularly think about the bit about threading the needle with shorter lengths of thread, needing to tie off more often but avoiding tangles and thereby saving time.
I then ignore that piece of wisdom passed down through who knows how many years and proceed to cut the longest damn length of thread I can manage because I hate tying off beginning or ending knots and I will not subject myself to more of that even if it does mean more tangles along the way.
