Adonis, from “This Is My Name”, Selected Poems
“Heed these words, You who wish to probe the depths of nature: If you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither will you find it outside. In you is hidden the treasure of treasures. Know Thyself and you will know the Universe and the Gods.”
—Delphi Oracle
“Hidden in my empty room, all alone, I burn incense, and dream in the smoke, all alone.”

@exortivam // Armani is bothering Toland
“Toly,” Armani makes her way over to her masters side, busy doing who knows what by the altar. She watches him work with the careful concoction and eyes dart over to the many talismans that were laced into a loose fabric of robes for protection wards. Thing fingers poked at the closest one and she purred at the delightful clinking noise it made against her nails. “I want.”
A sullen child. A curious child. He is not bothered by her inquiry nor her desire; in point of fact it is those very qualities that appeal to him, that makes her a spark in the Darkness. A faeire's Light in the chill of the Ascendant Plane's endless night.
Even the childish nickname she holds for him, Toly, is of no annoyance. It has come to be a small source of comfort in his heretofore solitary existence as something other, something between the living and the dead.
He does not turn from his present task, fully capable of dividing his attentions as easily as dividing realities. A half-smirk forms on lips which chant terrible things. "Do you now?" he finally asks her, changing from Hive to Common, as he comes to a natural pause in his ministrations.
Satisfied with the present state of the tincture, he sets the modified Erlenmeyer flask into a clamp beneath a burette for further titration. It's now that he glances at her, originally dark eyes alight with soulfire. "Which is it that you want?" He spreads out an arm, extending the fabric of his robes, setting the talismans and devotional medals to ringing.
He knows full well which of the pendants she seeks. Her reactions are too amusing for him to go without teasing her.

War above and trickery below, all within a city built for navigation.
The unholy trinity.
Study everything. Absorb the pattern. Transcend it.
The gates of hell are open night and day; smooth the descent, and easy is the way.
Listen! Listen. Death, true death, is both failure and liberation. Liberation from a race you had no hope of winning. To kill, then, is a terrible sort of compassion, a dreadful kindness.
