But what if I want to call the Squirtle something else? Like Ursula or another thing entirely?

Even though Ursula was the "official" nickname for her, there is no reason for her to have that name in the story, so it is no longer the official name for her! Squirtle was canonically nameless, being reset over by the player before she could be named, but she personally believes that she deserves the name "Myra" more than the Vulpix does, because that's the name the player chose for the character meant to represent herself. If not the name "Myra", Squirtle would accept any name her player would be willing to give her... but you guys aren't her player, so any nickname you have is non-canon, unfortunately!

I don’t blame you for just calling me “Squirtle” until now, though. I’ve been nameless for FAR too long...  It feels good to finally have one, even though I have to give it to myself.

I’ll be going to Treasure Town soon, but not yet. I’m on my way to the guild first.

I know I’m not the only victim out there, even if I can’t ever meet them personally. But if I was able to get out alright, so can the rest of them.

So what if the player got another copy of pmd and tried to be vulpix and shadow there? Would the test still always eventually force her to be squirtle or would she be able to freely play as vulpix without any issues?

I'm gonna answer this OOC because I don't think even Squirtle would know the answer to this one! She has no idea what would go on outside of her own cartridge.

This is vaguely hinted at by the end of the Pokepasta itself, but as long as the player keeps answering honestly, they'd always get Squirtle no matter what. But if the player got another copy of EoS and lie right from the get-go of the quiz, Squirtle wouldn't have any power over that new cart so the player might be able to get a Vulpix there... That's only speculation though; it's stated in the story that the narrator never actually bought a PMD game after this incident.
