It’s weird to watch season 1 some times because Tommy is so expressive compared to later seasons. Like he actually SMILES

YES! S1 is incredible television. The characters overall are more complex, I like the time period of 1919 so WW1 is still very much present, and I like the simplicity of the show. As another post says, it's just about gangsters, not politics. The Peakys aren't successful or powerful yet so they still feel like normal, fallible people.

I think my personal problem with the later seasons is the time jumps and Steven Knight writing on his own. With the time jumps, I think their level of success and wealth in S2 should have been in S3, for example. It was too much too fast. As for SK, his Tommy obsession got out of control as the seasons went and became very one note. Tommy is a mean gangster who kills and that's it. S1 had some other writers involved and I think you need that balance.
