As a fanfiction reader and writer, I’m getting tired of this tendency to use the word "fanfic" in a contemptuous way, thinking that "fanfic=bad writing", either through ignorance or misinformation. This is something I wanted to reflect on and bring my experience in this medium.
Yes, it is true that some fanfics leave much to be desired, but the rest represents a real treasure. For many, including myself, reading other writers fanfics is like a haven, a place of inspiration like any other format of reading, where an unexpected idea can, hopefully, pop up.
Whether or not you want that idea to grow and flourish is up to you.
It is wonderful and fascinate at the same time as the fanfics arise. Sometimes it may be because they want to explore the psychology of a character, write a funny idea that might have another character during a particular situation, or even, some writers take the trouble to interpret what the rest of their lives would look like, normally when the canonical work has already been completed.
In fact, and most ironic of all, and what makes me write these words, to defend this, part of who I am as a person, is that in fanfics it’s where people turn when the original story, unfortunately, unfolds and ends in an unsatisfactory way, loose ends are left, development arcs are destroyed...
On the other hand, a bad story don't have to be followed by a great batch of fanfics so that "the fandom fix the story", of course not: As I said, everything is a matter of a idea, want to write it and develop it based on some characters and universe already established.
Why do we write fanfics, then, some out of this world will ask? The same thing could be asked to a painter why they paint or why a musician composes. By sharing. Whether it is a feeling, a concept.
Art, in its ultimate principle, is about sharing.
A fanfics shows and shares the love and passion you feel for a work. You love its characters. You love its partners.
All these years I have witnessed this. How from cartoon for all audiences can emerge a plot full of intrigue, conspiracies, disappearances, revenge and human experimentation and mental distortion, and all that works perfectly whithin that context!
I have been able to read characters can come home, get redeemed, die in peace after a long live; Others habe died without sucess, although they tried with all their might.
I have read my favorite characters in alternate universes. In some, they love, in others, they suffer, forgive and die. But, in most of them, I felt they were alive, that it was worth investing my time in reading these stories, which, although not official, should have no less merit.
With this, I would like to end my brief opinion: I know that sometimes it can be difficult, and with each fic you may demand more and more. You know that you can write a good story, so you want to do much better. Analyze what you are writing, make a deep reading about the character who wants to write and develop it based on the context or moment of their life in which you want to represent them.
Ask yourself what, how and why you write what you write. But never stop writing. Learning how to do it can take a lifetime, but I think it’s really worth it.

Discover the new tribes and their customs, their lore. Meet Aloy's new allies and friends, see how she grows, matures and evolves as a person and as a character. I hope we can continue to get to know this world so mysterious and dangerous, but at the same time so fascinating and precious soon. See Erend, Zo, Alva, Beta, Kotallo, Aloy again..., because I know it will be like discovering a new world, like through the forest.
