I am going to be so very upfront: I do not give a shit about BG4 or the HBO continuation of BG3. I do not care about a cash grab that is only being created to generate revenue for a company that cares nothing for either the creative minds who worked tirelessly and passionately to create the work they are profiting from, or the fans who have poured countless hours and love into these worlds.

I don't give a shit if they slap the Wizards of the Coast label on it. I do not give a shit about whether they put the word "official" on something. I do not abide it, I do not count it, I do not want it. WotC didn't respect what made BG 1 and 2 so beloved, and they will not with BG3 either. It is a label that sells, and that is all it will ever be to them. I adore BG3, but even it served to prove the point that WotC will completely misrepresent, flanderize, or outright derail a character simply to capitalize on nostalgia. If you only played BG3, you will not care how Sarevok was portrayed, but I dare you to ask someone who loves the first two games what they think of his and Viconias parts in BG3.

The weird "canon" being flung about is genuinely just the death of fun in a space that is literally existent just for a freedom of expression and agency for the players. Larian and its developers in every department created this game with love and dedication, with the sole intention being player freedom and fun. I care what Larian has to say about the game, not WotC, and Larian has been adamant that it is the PLAYER that should be the one taking the reigns.

So when they "canonize" the redeemed Dark Urge who romanced no one, Gale ascending to godhood, Wyll not escaping his pact with Mizora and anything else, that shit will be completely disregarded by me. Just like how they handled the original BG cast in 3.

The only parts that matter to me are my playthroughs or events leading up to the game. Everything else can fuck off.

it is really starting to get on my nerves when artists draw karlach with a visible upper eyelid line way up from her eye. why does this happen so much. am i the last one to notice this? because surely it’s notable. like there is in fact more than one eye shape in the world and your art style can handle that by erasing one line i promise, can you please just look at the woman for five goddamn seconds before you draw her

this is shadowheart baldursgate. her heavy makeup emphasises that she has an extremely visible upper eyelid crease about halfway between her eyelash line and her eyebrow. it makes sense to draw that line.

this is lae’zel baldursgate. despite her heavy makeup covering things up a little, you can clearly see where her upper eyelid crease is because of the way her upper eyelid reflects light, but the skin between it and the eyebrow doesn’t. it makes sense to draw that line.

here is karlach baldursgate. as you can see, her eye shape is DIFFERENT. typically, her eyelash line and upper eyelid crease are only really visible as one thick dark line. so you do not have to draw an extra line just because that’s the way you were taught to draw eyes! there is no separate distinct line halfway between her eye and eyebrow like shadowheart’s. don’t randomly put it there

at certain close-up angles especially when using a mod to remove karlach’s makeup (it’s not letting me paste a link but second screenshot is a cropped example image from the Makeup Remover mod on nexus mods), you can see an upper eyelid crease if you’re looking for it. but it is much less obvious and much less far away and distinct from the eye than shadowheart’s or lae’zel’s. it can make sense to draw this line, but if you draw it like it’s the exact same as shadowheart’s, the end result is not going to look like karlach, it’s going to look like you drew a default white woman, coloured her red, and called it a day

having a superhero-esque alter ego that you named "the blade of frontiers" all by yourself (complete with a dramatic pose and everything!) is very silly. im not arguing that it isnt funny. im just saying its weird that no one acknowledges he invented a second self that he readily describes as being a separate entity he tries to live as at all times, viewing his real self as inferior, outside of jokes. like, by the time we meet him, the wyll ravengard persona is near entirely subsumed by the blade of frontiers persona. i just feel like its also notable serious-style that he dissociated so hard from being a fallible person whos scared of his inevitable dragging to the hells, that he created an inhumanly selfless Paragon of Heroism and Virtue persona and is mad at himself for not being the completely unrealistic guy he just made up. that sounds like... i mean that sounds like trauma, right? not even getting into the "its a victimless crime if it only hurts me" shit and its already looking kinda bad
