❥ ( DAE. )
━━ YS FAMILY CONCERT ; ENCORE STAGE ( 2017 )
...
“Sorry I’m late!” he calls out over the music, meeting their puzzled glances with a wave. Clad in his obnoxiously bright concert t-shirt (one of seven arts and crafts disasters he and the other Crescent members put together during a backstage vlog) he blended in well with YS’ newest group’s aesthetic. Or at least he thought so, flipping his imaginary locks of hair over one shoulder as he joined them as a Etoile’s unofficial new member. He shimmies over to Seoyul and begins to imitate her movements, playfully competing for the center spot in their formation, while the crowd roars with laughter just below.
there’s no feeling quite like the adrenaline rush from a concert, and seoyul has always heard that ys family concerts are in a league of their own. tonight, at her very first family concert a few months into etoile’s debut, she finally sees for herself just how impressive it is, and what the hype is all about. be it on stage or off stage, in the waiting rooms, there’s a kindred, tireless energy that never stops buzzing in the air. the feeling is unparalleled, a wellspring from which everyone’s unabating stamina is drawn throughout the hours, and seoyul revels in it all night.
even though it hasn’t been too long since etoile’s debut, they’ve already gained a considerable fanbase, and the amount of love and attention they have been receiving is nothing like any of them could ever have imagined. ( as much as there’s always talk about how much hard work everyone needs to put in if they want to make it in the entertainment industry, there’s no denying that equal opportunities are ultimately nothing but a sham. this, she supposes, is the advantage edge that they have over others, coming from an already well established company. ) it’s all the more striking tonight━the resounding screams that send shivers through their limbs.
this is what it feels like: the world is going to be etoile’s someday ( in due course, she wants it to be hers, but for now she’ll settle with it being etoile’s ), and everyone else is just going to be living in it. but that flight of fancy she lets herself engage in is quickly broken, and by an obnoxiously loud voice, no less. clearly someone’s gotten too immersed in all of that energy, and seoyul has to resist the urge to roll her eyes at whoever is currently vying for attention with her. that displeasure is quickly forced away soon after, when she takes in how the crowd goes wild almost immediately, and a quick glance to the person now ( rather rudely, might she add ) squeezed into the line-up by her side reveals why. it’s none other than crescent’s very own widely loved mood maker, jester, whatever you call it━dae.
seoyul has half a mind to just push him aside, but with all the enlivened cheers from the audience below, she knows there’s only one way to go about with this, and that is to just play along. so she throws her head back and laughs, with as much heart and soul as she can muster for it, doing a little caper around him as she sings her line, “in love, nothing’s decided, let’s just go with the flow, honey!” hell, she even steps aside and claps for him as he tries his hand at the choreography; it’s easy to fall into these margins, between forced smiles and the appearance of enthusiasm, but what’s not easy is the relinquishing of her throne, the center position. still, she’d do anything to hear declarations of love from fans.

BACKDATED / 2013.
people are always talking about how we never really come to realize what precious things we possess, until we see the unfortunate circumstances other people are in. unfortunately for seoyul, she grew up belonging to the latter group of people, the ones that have to construct the image of deprivation. it’s a vastly different learning point from where she stands; when she’s eight and overhears her classmate flaunting the jade pendant her mother’s passed down to her as a family heirloom, seoyul arrives at the newfound understanding that you don’t realize how much you lack, until you realize you’ve never had the fortune to even think about what others come to see as natural.
seoyul and seojun have never had childhood trinkets or the like, but at one point, she remembers that the envy over these simple things that others had grew so much, that she went home to search for just one object she could use as a keepsake from her childhood. she didn’t find anything presentable, but she did come across a worn out shirt her father left in the house. ( she remembers that back then, in his hurry to leave his life behind, he’d left many things unpacked, most of which were thrown out by her mother. this particular shirt survived though. ) for the next few years, seoyul would fall asleep hugging it, almost like she was clinging to it for the littlest semblance of normality.
then, some time later, a day came when she would leave home to pursue another life too, just like her father did. that day, she passed the shirt over to seolji and seojun, conveying with it unarticulated notions of i’ll always be here with you and, most importantly, i’m leaving this place, not leaving you guys. while that remains unforgotten, the shirt itself has long been relegated to untouched depths of her memories. it didn’t really hold much real meaning for her anyway, just made-up nostalgia to tide herself over. it wasn’t like the indentation her father left in their lives ever had any positive sentiments attached to it.
so when she’s strolling around the company’s pantry for a break in the midst of practice and spots the back view of the shirt ( a distinctive graphic she recovered, almost instantly, from crevices in her memory ), the leap her heart makes is only because she knows exactly who’s wearing it. “cheon seolji?” seoyul calls out to the figure back-facing her, voice thick with a blend of emotions━incredulity, elation, and even curosity as to what the younger girl would be doing here. “my god, seolji, is that really you?” it takes her a while, but seoyul recovers from the frozen state of surprise, and when she does, her hurried steps spare no time in closing the distance between the two.
❥ ( HYEON. )
october 2019.
hyeon knows that his youtube channel has an audience, but there’s something slightly jarring about meeting a member of said audience face-to-face. of course it happens less than a month into his contract with yuseong entertainment and roughly the same amount of time since the informal ending of his channel. it feels a lot like an episode of some old-timey cartoon where the characters link arms and turn to face the screen for the first time in a final bow: thanks for watching, but this is the end.
or maybe he’s just dramatic. there’s a difference between meeting someone who just so happens to recognize his face and meeting someone who claims to be a fan and he hasn’t yet determined which category the woman standing in front of him falls into. he imagines that if she were a fan, she’d have broken into a sweat by now. maybe dramatically collapsed on the floor in front of him so that he would be forced to help her up, like all the fangirls do in the dramas he’s seen. but she seems amazingly composed, and there’s some desperately-seeking-validation part of him that wishes she’d at least blush or something.
whatever. he can work with what he gets – he amplifies a moment of recognition, twists it into something far-removed from reality. the smug look on his face is a product of his hard work.
“so,” he tries, one hand raised to fumble with the strap of his tote bag. yeah, maybe he’s nervous, but can you blame him? “i’m really curious… did you come here because you knew that you would find me?” a brief pause, then an epiphany. “wait. you don’t work here, do you?”
when someone chooses to throw themselves right into the glare of publicity and become an idol, they expect endless adulation and praise. lots of praise. and maybe a part of them is also moderately prepared for the extreme end of that, the stalking and the obsessive fans. but those dreadful parts of the career never really seem real, rather those always just seemed like hushed whispers of scary stories told in the dark, like folk tales told by seniors to scare the rookies. it only becomes convincing when it actually happens.
in hindsight, seoyul should have known better. getting mobbed by a swarming crowd of fans on her short coffee run to the café that’s right beside the company building isn’t exactly improbable, and being just slightly over two years into her career now, something like this should have been well within her calculations. but there’s no time for lamenting what she should or should not have done now, only time for damage control. with the least bit of foresight she had prior to leaving the company building, seoyul actually did bring with her some tools for disguise, an oversized jacket she haphazardly throws on to hide her recognizable clothes and a black cap she shields her features with, all done in an alleyway she manages to run into after temporarily shaking off the crowd.
quick thinking is what comes into play next, which has her entering the company lobby and approaching a vaguely familiar face to pretend like she’s with him. ( seoyul doesn’t have the mental capacity to figure out just where she knows him from, but he seems oblivious enough to her presence, and that’s what she needs at the moment. ) the regret kicks in almost instantly, though. right after she greets him, in fact, because that’s when seoyul recognizes him as a fairly new trainee in ys. at this point, she doesn’t know if the fact that he’s actually buying this act, without seeming to register her identity when he’s staring straight into her face should upset or relieve her. how do you not recognize a senior?
still, in view of the situation at hand, she plays along, just in case they’re still nearby and find their way here. “uh━yeah, yeah. you’re here, i know,” suffice to say, she’s not really listening to what he’s saying. hell, she’s not even looking directly at him, her eyes still darting around, her panic over whether the horde of people are going to arrive any time soon only heightening with every passing second. that is, until she hears his question. “what?” for once, the display of emotion is inhibited, bound to happen with the current lack of power she has over the situation she’s in. “i do work here. you might have, uh, seen me around?” she whispers, eyes narrowed into slits of flaming chagrin.
❥ ( SEIKO. )
S H E S H O T T H E other a reassuring smile in response, nodding silently. the both of them knew fair well that seoyul was pretty much never fully relaxed and neither was seiko; well, at least if it had to do with their job and career. it made sense, seoyul was the group’s leader and thus carried way more responsibility than the other members. seiko was just someone in etoile while the other girl basically had to keep everyone else in check. she would probably never tell, but she secretly admired the older girl from time to time. if she was in her shoes, she would never be able to appear as calm as seoyul did all the time.
H E R E V E R - P R E S E N T smile quickly turned into an overexaggerated grin as soon as the camera was turned on. seiko wouldn’t call it acting … more so acting appropriately to the situation she was in. and this specific situation demanded her to be the happy-go-lucky type she always portrayed in the media. catching the clue to continue on from seoyul’s words, she clasped her hands together with an anticipated squeal. “ yes! we have gathered countless make-up items in front of us … let’s all thank seoyul for letting me borrow her stuff! ” she clapped gently with a soft chuckle before starting to look a little bit more serious. “ we thought it might be a fun activity if we did each other’s make-up while talking about our new comeback and everything that comes along with it! i also collected a few questions we got on our instagram account, so we will answer a few of those as well! ”
if seoyul had to pick one person from etoile to be stuck on a barren island with, it would no doubt be seiko. no one in the group got along as pleasantly with her as seiko could, though the funny thing is that’s not something seoyul would have ever imagined when she first met seiko as a trainee, what with the younger girl’s raging sense of spontaneity and that irrepressible devil-may-care aura she gave off right from the very start. seoyul herself always much preferred discretion━it is, after all, the better part of valor. but the one similarity that they both have is their unshakeable will, each in their own different ways, and maybe that’s why they’ve always had an unspoken sense of understanding towards each other. that, and they’re both good at catering to the cameras, as clearly revealed from the way they both snapped right into their celebrity modes when the camera started rolling.
so, maybe along the way, they just internalized whatever started out as roles they play before the cameras. whatever it is, seoyul’s just glad for it. “ooh, it looks like we’ve got a lot of interesting questions!” she exclaims, peeking over seiko’s shoulder at the questions collated on her phone. “okay, so! i’ll be doing seiko’s makeup first, in my usual style, while she reads out some of the questions,” casually humming a tune, seoyul rummages through the makeup spread out before them to find a concealer. “honestly, your complexion is so good these days, you don’t even need this, but i’ll just cover up some red spots here and there.” carefully, she puts the concealer on a few scattered spots around seiko’s face, tapping it in with the pad of her ring finger.
❥ ( EUNBYUL. )
How unfortunate. Seoyul had been gracing her with a question and a bit of her time. Eunbyul had hoped that made they could both sit in silence, even if it would be awkward. She could just come off distant or shy. A new rookie that was too nervous to speak to a member of Etoile and Seoyul of all members.
Much better than showcasing her irrational bias against this woman that she had no evidence to support. Just something always felt off. A woman in her mid-twenties still having this air of innocence around her.
“Everything’s fine,” she responded a little too quick. Maybe that wasn’t the best move to do with a senior from another company. Especially since she was being nice enough to ask if she was alright. Dismissive would be a bad look for a first group that was debuting under a small label. As much as she critiqued the other for being seemingly phony, there was always an element of facade that had to be held up.
After all, she didn’t want her backstage image to be someone who talks down to seniors. A possible exposé about a bratty rookie or trainee was not something she wanted at any time.
Eunbyul jabbed her tongue into her cheeks before pushing the trained smile back onto her lips. She clarified, “I mean, kind of. I’m not used to all of this and I’m not really the best with meeting new people.” At least she was being somewhat honest. Eunbyul wasn’t the leader for a reason nor was she selected for her natural ability to talk to people. She hadn’t even debuted yet, but she dreaded every interview her and Dandelion would have to do.
“Still new to all of this.”
*
step one of becoming an almost universally liked figure ( not that she’s reached that goal yet, but she’s definitely working her way up to it ), is to be an astute observer. it’s surprising, just how much there is to be learnt about people simply in what they don’t say. case in point━the other’s hasty response to what would typically be a harmless question signifies a sense of defensiveness, which also translates into one simple understanding that seoyul has grasped in the span of the past few seconds: she’s lying. seoyul, of all people, would know━dishonesty is quite literally what she does for a living.
exactly what she’s trying to hide calls for further observation, though. at the very least, this conversation has piqued seoyul’s genuine interest. at the crux of her being, she’s a goal-oriented person. in every action she devotes herself to, there’s an innate need to work towards an objective, a certain desired result or target of interest. and in this case, her goal of the day is to figure out what’s up with this... rookie. “oh, i don’t think i’ve asked for your name yet! i’m seoyul,” she offers, watching the other ( to-be ) idol intently through a discerning gaze, all along not forgetting to have her disarmingly saccharine smile on full display.
“right, that’s totally understandable,” the edges of her mouth still pulled high, seoyul nods to demonstrate understanding. “but all of this has got to be at least a little thrilling, isn’t it? running around and getting to meet everyone, feeling like you’re finally a part of the industry. god, i remember my own debut days like it’s yesterday. with all that hustle and bustle, it almost felt like an out of body experience. maybe it’s because it felt so inconceivable that debut was finally approaching.” she did train for five whole years, after all. that much time spent cooped up within the four walls of practice rooms is enough to cloud over anyone’s judgement of the lines between reality and dreams. “how long have you trained for?”
❥ ( SIWOO. )
...
siwoo laughs, shaking his head when he hears seoyul’s explanation for her appearance before wiping the sweat off his forehead with his arm. he doesn’t miss the light jabs she gets in at his expense (after all, it is true that he does practice a little too much; even he acknowledges this) but he doesn’t mind. he just grins unapologetically and shrugs as he heads over to where she is and chuckles. “don’t give me those eyes,” he warns playfully, the teasing coming to him more naturally than he thought it would as he plops himself down onto the ground where she’s set the bag of food. “i’d never turn down free food especially when the great min seoyul is paying.” his grin grows larger as he returns the girl’s previous words and pats the spot next to him for her to sit. “and i was already taking a break anyways so your timing was perfect━ maybe a bit too perfect?” siwoo lifts his eyebrows and wiggles them for added effect knowing that the other will pick up on his meaning before laughing again. maybe he should be a bit concerned that everything just feels like old times when he would flirt with her because he thought she was pretty and she’d easily reciprocate but he didn’t want to dwell on it for too long.
“you’ve been practicing for a long time today too then,” he points out as he starts opening the bags and taking the containers out, referring to her earlier words. siwoo doesn’t forget to glance over at her though, a look of concern in his eyes as he asks, “comeback prep going okay?”
delayed gratification is the first thing we all learn as kids; the marshmallow test explains it all━a child’s ability to wait long enough such that their rewards will be multiplied and they get to eat two marshmallows instead of just one is supposedly characteristic of some innate strength of will, which is turn is highly predictive of future success. ( seoyul herself learnt this by way of “if i keep this snack my teacher gave me for later, i’ll get to eat it only when my hunger reaches its peak and share it with seojun.” ) but herein lies even more questions: if that same marshmallow is presented repeatedly, across different contexts, just how much self-control would one need to hold out against it? would it only drive the point home, that steadfast forbearance mounts up rewards? or would it just desensitize that notion? realistically, how much self-control can one engage in before the meter gets maxed out and they stop bothering to think about actions versus consequences?
that’s exactly what seoyul plans on finding out. she’s running an experiment of her own, if you will, and siwoo just happens to be the unfortunate subject. here’s the working hypothesis: realistically, exactly how much self-control can someone like ryu siwoo commit himself to, before he gives in to the caprices of the heart? if she had to guess, it’d probably be a fair amount. everyone in an industry like this, naturally, are resolute to a certain degree. but siwoo might just be one of the most, if not actually the most, strong-willed. then again, maybe that’s why seoyul is so adamant about seeing this through━she’s always liked a challenge. besides, it’s fun with siwoo. or at least, it used to be, back when she always had his undivided attention. seoyul is nothing if not self-aware, and sometimes it’s a blessing, but it’s definitely a curse when it comes to times like these, because she’s very aware of how much she misses the attention siwoo used to give her and it’s disconcerting, to say the least.
hence the ensuing show she puts on. “i can’t help the eyes,” she says with a shrug of her shoulders, as she moves to sit down next to siwoo, purposefully choosing to be just a tad too close, such that her leg is brushing against his, but not enough to be invasive. “habit, i guess.” seoyul’s voice is lowered as she speaks now, and her smile falls, all by design. there’s a short lull in the conversation after she speaks, as she unpacks the food and opens two bottles of soju, which perfectly tops off the strategically placed moment of sentimentality. “well, you could say it’s destiny, then! or maybe i was just standing outside all the time watching you, waiting for my opportunity to swoop in,” a wisp of a laugh bubbles up, her smile making its appearance once more when she turns to meet his gaze. seoyul takes a mouth of tteokbokki, deliberately leaving a bit of the sauce on the corner of her lips, before she continues to talk naturally, acting like she’s completely oblivious to it, “just the same old, i guess. i’m at that point where i’m running on auto-pilot now. what about you, though? i heard you guys are going to be backup dancers for crescent, is that what you were practicing for? must be exciting!”
yulgram: bonbons, you watched our comeback stage well right? you must have worked hard cheering for us, so don’t forget to drink lots of water and rest early tonight! 💕

❥ ( TAEJIN. )
...
“i try to notice everybody - especially people that look kind of close to my age,” he tells her (perhaps a little more shyly than he’d like). “i never forget a face, but i’m awful at remembering names.” taejin perks up a little more and shifts his body so he’s facing her, resting his elbow on the back of the seat. “but now that we’ve properly met i won’t forget. i promise. if i do, i’m giving you permission to throw water at my face. you can even record it if you want.”
his grin is a little cheekier as he says that, but it doesn’t take long for it to fade back into the pleasant, if somewhat neutral, smile that graces his face whenever he’s talking to someone new. “anyway, now that i for sure know your name. seoyul-ssi, how did you come to find yourself under ys? what’s your story?”
*
there’s a certain kind of honor in being noticed; it’s something nobody can deny, and seoyul is definitely no stranger to it, in fact she embraces it. and if you ask her, she’s pretty sure that it’s most likely the driving force for everyone in an industry like this, though maybe to varying degrees. even then, someone noticing your struggles then going out of their way to help you━that’s something seoyul has never even imagined to be something that people would do outside of unrealistic drama scenarios, let alone experienced before. whatever taejin is up to, no matter his intentions, is definitely getting to her, if the somersaults her heart is currently doing is anything to go by. “right,” a huff of laughter passes her lips in response to his joke. “i’ve been so nervous, i almost forgot about actually having to film.”
it’s not exactly a lie, per se. she has been nervous, just not over what you would expect for someone on the set of a music video shooting for the first time. all the tension from being in a new situation has been entirely channeled towards the uneasiness of interacting with a very attractive senior. still, with the reminder from taejin, some of her previous concerns start to resurface once more. “what’s actually going to happen later on? do you think i’ll do fine?” there’s a tinge of vulnerability, just a slight tremor to the question, and though it’s barely noticeable, it gets under seoyul’s skin all the same. she draws her bottom lip between her teeth, momentarily giving in to the sense of regret that almost instantaneously washes over her, because what in the world made her think it was a good idea to say that?
good thing the conversation flow gives her a chance to recover, and it doesn’t take long before she’s lapsing into good-natured teasing again, with her signature smile back on. “i’ll definitely be working hard to make sure you don’t forget it.” ( or rather, a lamentable attempt at flirting, masqueraded as good-natured teasing. ) “my story...” seoyul trails off, giving a thoughtful hum as she turns the words over in her mind. it’s simple, actually. what else could it be, other than fame and fortune, all that jazz? she’s quite certain those elements are going to be invariably present in everyone’s story as well. it’s just a matter of how they twist it to mask the innate selfishness. and seoyul? well, she’s pretty damn good. “it was luck first, i guess, since i was scouted. but i think i would have ended up auditioning anyway, i always wanted to perform. i just like seeing people smile, and knowing that i had a part to play in it, you know?” tender words, tender tone, tender eyes. “what about you, your story? i’m sure it’s a lot more interesting.”
❥ ( SEOJUN. )
...
just like all the times before, seoyul’s words fell on deaf ears as he finds himself at the front door of their home, yet again. “I know,” he mutters, a sigh leaving his lips. “she sounded kind of sick, though.” he attempts to reason out, both to seoyul and himself, to convince himself that he wasn’t falling into the same ploy his mother had devised. he wasn’t wrong though, her voice did sound hoarse and weak, but whether it was from drinking all night, or because she was genuinely unwell, they did not know for sure — though it was clear to seoyul that it was the former. it didn’t help that his sister was always right too, 9 out of 10 times, if he even tried to count. “maybe we should check on her? just in case?” the uncertainty in his voice mirrored the state of his mind, but he chooses to ignore it yet again, hoping that this would be the one time seoyul was wrong. he reaches for the gate but halts abruptly as he turns to face his sister. “you don’t have to go in if you don’t want to.” he offers with a meek smile, “I can handle it this time.”
*
stepping back into the neighborhood they grew up in, years after she left and never looked back, has only been revealing of one very simple truth: nothing ever changes in a neighborhood like this. it looks exactly like the way it did the day she got her acceptance letter from ys and packed up all her belongings without a sliver of hesitance. ( with what little she had, it didn’t even take her more than twenty minutes━shows just how empty of a life it was. ) the mouldy walls and narrow trash-littered apartment hallways, the ne’er-do-wells and their empty beer bottles by the streets, the distinctive stench of alcohol and wretchedness in the air. everything around here is exactly the way she remembers it, and seoyul loathes it with every bit of her being.
even when she looks over at seojun by her side, though all grown now ( he always reminds her of an oversized puppy ) and much taller than her, she sees the same old little boy who would hold on to the ends of her shirt and follow her all around all day, like a baby duckling that’s imprinted on her. mostly it’s because their mother had a tendency to disappear for days on end, without so much as a hint to where she’d gone to. they knew though; it was always either the bar or those gambling dens their neighbors would have set up in their own apartments. they just got to the point where they stopped trying to look for her. mother lies, it’s what she does. even if they did go search for her at her usual haunts, she’d just come up with some excuse to dismiss them, anyway. in a sense, there was never even the chance of an alternative reality for seojun and seoyul, but if anything, that’s the one thing she’s grateful for━having her little brother through it all. it’s the one constant she’s glad for, her brother’s unwavering warmth.
seojun━and seolji━were always the one shred of light amidst the all-consuming darkness. and the glimmer of hope she sees in his eyes in this moment reminds her of the nights when the three of them would fall asleep holding each other’s hands, just to hold on to whatever sense of security they could find in each other. this isn’t home, it never was; home was always seojun and seolji, and there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them. “wow, look who’s all grown up now!” for the first time today, seoyul manages to crack a smile. “you think i’d ever let you go in there alone? if you’re going to have to deal with mum’s shit, then i’m going to be right there beside you. so if you want to do this, then okay, let’s go in.” as resolute as she sounds, a tinge of uncertainty still tugs at her heart, though it fades the moment she instinctively reaches out for seojun’s hand. seoyul quickly uses this brief moment of respite to land three sharp knocks on the door, right before the regret starts to kick in once more. here we go again.
❥ ( SEIKO. )
W H E N S E O Y U L asked seiko whether she wanted to film a youtube video with her, she couldn’t help but agree wholeheartedly. talking to their shared fanbase was one of her favourite past times━ not necessarily because she loved bonbons so much, but more so because she loved talking in general. it really didn’t matter who seiko was talking to, as long as the other party was actively listening and asking questions without talking about themselves too much … which was probably why she enjoyed livestreams as much as she did. sure, a video was not as much fun as a stream, but it was good enough. plus, it was easier to cut out stuff that shouldn’t appear on air and it was harder to watch your mouth when you were with a close friend.
S E I K O W A S not a morning person and neither was her roommate, so she was a little taken aback upon seeing how chipper seoyul was so bright and early. ‘ she must be really excited! ’ was all the lead dancer could think before practically being forced to freshen up a little bit. well, at least she didn’t have to do her make-up and could save some time. and still, she was late. “ i’m done, i’m done! ” she giggled as she finished brushing her hair, taking a quick last glance at her own reflection before walking over to where the camera was situated. “ oh, you really laid everything out already! you’re the best. ” the older one was definitely the more efficient one out of the both of them, no questions asked. sitting down on one of the cushions laid out on the floor, she ran her fingers through her hair. “ we can start! i’m ready. ”
seoyul can’t help the skip in her step and the excited giggle that bubbles up as she follows behind seiko. as much as she enjoys performing on stage, it honestly always feels a little more impersonal and detached as compared to actually talking to them. like at fansigns, but for now, before their official comeback, she supposes that a youtube video will achieve that effect just as well too. she likes speaking, she likes reading comments from their fans. of course, there’s the occasional hate comment as well, but attention is exactly what seoyul thrives off of. and hey, no one can deny that negative attention is still attention.
“well, you know how uptight i get about things,” she says jokingly, a playful grin set on her lips as she plops herself down on the other cushion next to seiko. ( they both know there’s truth to it though. seoyul is kind of always on edge. ) “okay, recording in three... two... one!” seoyul chirps, hitting the record button after the countdown, and she immediately snaps right into broadcast mode once the red light on the camera starts blinking, indicating that the recording has started. “hello, bonbons! it’s been a while, hasn’t it? did you miss us a lot? because we definitely did! so we thought we would do something fun today, and as you can see, we’re bare-faced right now...” she trails off just for that hint of playful suspense, trusting seiko to work in perfect tandem with her and pick off from it, the way she always does.

everyone knows that masks and sunglasses are the basic essentials in the starter pack for celebrities. but it’s also widely and clearly understood that if you go overboard with your disguise, it becomes all the more likely for people to recognize you as a celebrity. and, with full knowledge of that, seoyul purposefully leaves the house with the whole package━masks, sunglasses, bucket hats, insanely oversized sweater. especially when she knows she’s going to that particular cafe, where there’s a magnified likelihood of meeting a particular someone.
when the rumor mill starts churning, the winds are bound to carry with it whispers of the speculations that netizens are circulating. and at some point, it’s going to reach them. the staff will tell you that any romance-related rumors are bad for image, to steer clear of the opposite gender, but seoyul has a take to it. the outworn adage that all attention is good attention still very much rings true with her, which explains why her response to the emerging talk surrounding the nature of her relationship with kitae isn’t to avoid at all costs. her manager will probably tell her that she’s being stupid. but as much as she loves a bit of chaos, she’s still got her head on straight.
without some form of reason guiding her actions, no matter how warped it may seem, she might have never gotten this far in her life. coincidental meetings at a café are nothing much to go off on, and for the time being, it’s still a fun little thing that the netizens are making guesses about; nothing is all that serious yet. besides, most ( if not all ) of said netizens are kitae’s fans, and for some reason, fanbases of indie artists demonstrate a significantly higher level of chill. really, to seoyul, it seems like the perfect way to get herself more known, having her name floating around in a different group of people.
so she continues to allow herself the enjoyment of fanning the flames further, to make sure showing up at that particular café is a necessary part of her weekly routine. and sure enough, when she arrives, he’s there too. “didn’t think i’d see you here,” she says with a tinge of good-willed sarcasm, as they’re both standing in line to wait for their coffee. it’s a good thing that the mask she has on is hiding the smug smile across her lips.

𝑺𝑬𝑶𝒀𝑼𝑳 as lead female in crescent’s this is war mv.
being a lowly one-year-old trainee means the lack of proper styling, which explains the catastrophic hair and simple makeup. it’s no wonder the etoile girls still tease her about this appearance to date, but seoyul actually doesn’t mind it as much as she pretends to. getting to be lead female in a senior group’s music video was a representation of her good performance as a trainee, and she’s quite proud of it. ( not that she would ever let on to it, though. )
