dreamvourâ:
Depends, sheâd said. Schala couldnât stop the small laugh that escaped her, a hand raising to her mouth to cover it just a little. It probably wasnât meant that way, but all she could do was think of how Janus had carried on conversations with anyone other than her â that was, not very well â as much as sheâd encouraged him. Despite the longing in her chest, the constant empty pit of mourning what sheâd lost, it was nice to find little things like that in other people.
âOh, no, not directions, but I do appreciate your offer.â
She hadnât been too concerned about going places â where to go, how to get there â just yet. With any luck, based on what sheâd been able to overhear others doing, she wouldnât ever need directions if she could â well.
âItâs rather thatâŚâ
And maybe it sounded silly.
After all, Schala didnât know how many had been taken from worlds like hers, how many were from this island naturally, how many were from worlds similar to Spirale. It could in theory be a ridiculous question, and there was a fair bit of embarrassment nipping at her at the thought of being the only one who didnât know.
But â it wasnât as if she could help it. Her voice remained calm as she spoke, like she were speaking to Janus. Maybe this woman was like him, after all? Maybe she had just needed someone she could trust.
â⌠youâre on that â âphoneâ of yours, yes? So, then, I would presume⌠and youâre free to correct me if Iâm wrong⌠that you understand how they work. I â you see, I havenât quite been able to work them out yet, so if it isnât too much trouble⌠could you explain the basics of them to me?â
The small chuckle that escaped her was, for once, not intentional. While to her, and probably many others, the question this woman asked seemed almost silly, Larxene understood that she must not have been from this world.
To her understanding, Spirale was some stupid world that trapped people inside. For some reason there was no escaping it, and anyone misfortunate enough to get dragged into the city would just have to make due. Granted, she herself knew what a phone was and how to work it well enough before arriving here, but it wasnât as much of a shock that someone didnât know.
Still, kindness was not in her nature, and there didnât seem to be any benefit to playing nice. But... there was something about this all that made the nymph feel as though she might as well help out. Not like there was anything better to do, anyways.
âYeah, Iâm pretty familiar with phones, I guess.â Couldnât just speak nicely easily, now could she.
âTheyâre a good way to waste time, if youâve got nothing better to do. And since I have nothing better to do, I guess I could show you how they work.â
Larxene shifted her weight, leaning just slightly more towards this woman who, she only just realized hadnât introduced herself. Well, Larxene hadnât introduced herself either. Whoops.
   âIâm Larxene, by the way.â
