They probably met while being bounty hunters. Or maybe Ferre had a bounty and Clown was hired to kill him.
The person that hired Clown eventually tried to kill Clown as well, forcing them to team up. (similar to Wemmbu and Flame when they fought the 1000 player LAW army)
I can see Ferre following Clown just to annoy him, and eventually they become familiar with each other, as the same people tried to hunt them/hire them for their skill.
Eventually (after a decent period of time, years even) they would be friends with benefits. Not emotionally attached to each other, not partners just yet.
The bond would grow as they did, until Clown fell first. Ferre fell harder.
Of course, neither would admit it to each other's face.
I can see one of them dying, the other unaware that the dying one had a totem.
I can see Ferre curling up against Clown's body, hugging him until the totem pops, and then Clown is laughing because he can the entire thing.
This was when both of them knew that the other cared, but they still didn't fucking admit it.
After this, they formed the unhealthy attachment towards each other, neither of them can exist or enjoy life without the other.

Clown can and will take care of the stray cats. I like to hc that there are a TON of strays in Unstable.
Clown's warehouse is a cat hub. He hasn't names them, neutered them, or collared them. He just lets them exist. There are more every time Kaboodle comes to visit.
Clown has this uncanny ability to tell when one of his cats hasn't come back in a while and he goes out to find said cat stuck in a tree or smthn.
There's like 50 of them. At least. (not all of them are there at the same time, they come and go as they please)

Since Mane is a vigilante, and she's a villain, Mane ragebaits her ALL the time.
Since Mane has self-proclaimed himself as Clown's oldest brother, he knows Kab well.
Imagine them fighting and then going back to Clown's warehouse and Kab is yelling at him for spearing her in her arm.
Clown is NOT about to take a side, he values his life, thank you very much.
Kab is 19. Mane is 18. Wemmbu is 17. Mane is like only 2 months older than Kab but is taller than her. She hates it.
