PROFESSOR CASSIUS WILKES.

         things  had  settled  down  far  too  much  for  cassius’  liking.  but  with  the  start  of  school  fast  approaching  he  had  to  get  back  into  the  swing  of  hiding  out.  classes  were  going  to  start  soon,  he  had  to  reestablish  himself  as  the  favourite  teacher  of  the  group.  so  he  thought  he  might  start  it  out  with  a  RIDDLE  that  he’d  seen  in  a  book.  ❛  what’s  green  &  red  &  goes  round   &  round  ?  ❜

whenever corrine came to speak with her professor before heading to class, she wasn’t quite expecting to be confronted with a riddle.  though, whenever he questioned her, she couldn’t help but let her mind drift passed the realm of what she was originally came to speak to him about. 

“  i don’t know ?? is it a slytherin chasing a gryffindor ?? ” her face read complete confusion as she thought long and hard about the solution to the riddle. she’s always hated mind games, because they always ended up giving her a headache before they made her interested.

ABIGAIL NOTT.

      abigail  gazed  down  at  her  nails,  all  of  her  life  she’d  always  been  surrounded  by  green.  her  father  never  forgot  he  was  a slytherin,  their  family  was  proud  of  what  the  colour  meant;  money,  pride.  then  she  gazed  up  at  the  girl  in  front  of  her.  corrine  suited  it  all.  she  was  everything  abigail  wished  she  could  be  but  she  was  too  meek  to  be  it  so  she  followed  her  around  like  a  puppy  without  a  leash.  lips  broke  into  a  smile  despite  her  want  to  argue.

       ❛  i'm  glad  i  got  sorted  into  slytherin  then.  can  you  IMAGINE  me  trying  to  pull  off  yellow.  what  an  awful  idea.  i’d  clash  so  hard  with  my  blonde.  those  poor  little  puffs  have  no  idea  that  they  got  the  LAMEST  colour  of  them  all.  as  far  as  you  go,  i’d  say  green  is  your  colour  too,  so  i  guess  you’re  as  lucky  as  me. ❜ abigail  wished  their  only  problems  were  the  colours  their  hair  &  skin  coordinated  with.  she  was  distracted  ever  since  the  attack,  because  while  she’d  found  out  that  both  corrine  &  nathaniel’s  parents  had  been  involved  she’d  yet  to  hear  about  her  own  father.

         ❛  i  wish  a  colour  would  MAKE  me  ‘bad  ass’  because  i’m  really  not  feeling  that  way  right  now.  the  world  is  getting  fucking  dark  &  people  are  dying  &  all  we  can  do  is  sit  here  away  from  our  families  because  they’ve  decided  being  cooped  up  here  is  safe.  it’s  a  load  of  bullshit.  &  classes  starting  isn’t  going  to  help  make  anyone  feel  better.  if  anything  everyone  is  going  to  turn  into  a  fucking  detective  &  try  to  find  out  who  fucked  up  little  miss  weaselette. ❜

from the day corrine dolohov started to take her first steps, her parents drilled it into her brain that she couldn’t take shit from anyone. she was told that feelings got you nowhere and they got in the way. no one dolohov needed to be worried about love, but corrine thought differently. she knew that she would be the weak one. she knew that she’d already fallen for someone. 

corrine wasn’t BADASS, she was weak-- but she’d never let anyone know that. she didn’t like letting people in, because friends made her want to care and she was always told not to. of course none of these things left her lips, because se didn’t want abigail to know just how fucked up she really was.

so she just extended her grin and moved to paint another finger, “ baby girl, you’ll always be bad ass. it’s in your blood.” she teased, never dropping her smile as she moved to the next topic “we couldn’t stop the darkness from spreading even if we tried. they kept up cooped up because they know that our parents are evil-- or at least they like to think that. they think if they keep us here, then we wont get corrupted or some shit like that.”

“ it seems like everyone is just content on pointing their little fingers toward nathaniel. though, i’m kind of pissed at him right now so i guess he gets what he deserves for not hanging around us lately. ”

corrine always found herself the happiest when she was sat criss-crossed on her best friend’s bed. she could be having the worst day, but she knew as soon as abigail came into the room-- everything got better. perhaps that’s why she was sat there with her now, painting her fingernails a deep shade of green.

she always loved to paint abigail’s nails, because it always gave her a chance to hold her hand without it seeming out of place. 

“ green has always been your color, ya’know ? matches your personality. makes you seem BAD ASS-- even more so than me. ”

MARCELLA BURBANK.

Marcella scanned the Slytherin table as she walked in, the Great Hall much more full than it usually was during breakfast. Moments later and she’d found a spot- next to Corrine. Great. Marc took a deep breath before sitting next to her, rolling her eyes at her immediate comment. “Chill out Dolohov, I’m not sitting here because its by you.” Marcella gestured down the length of the Slytherin table with one hand. “There isn’t room anywhere else. Trust me, if there was I wouldn’t be sitting here.” She didn’t have anything against the other girl- she was just more than tired after the week’s events and not at all willing to deal with someone else’s snarkiness towards her.

corrine rolled her eyes so hard that she was sure that they got stuck in the back of her head for a moment. she knew damn well that there was probably SOMEWHERE else for marcella to sit-- but of course she found the closest one.

“ of course there’s room somewhere else-- you’re sitting in abigail’s seat anyway. so get up and go sit with the hufflepuffs , because that’s where you belong. ”

JAMES POTTER.

“And last time I checked, I never said a fucking thing about us being friends,” James shot back as he shoved some toast in his mouth and glared at the girl. He didn’t really know why he thought sitting at the Slytherin table was a good idea, let alone next to CORRINE, but it was the furthest away from the Ravenclaw table and there was a free seat facing the wall, so he didn’t have to hurt himself by being near or looking at Alex. 

Afterwards, he realised that he probably should have thought through this plan. “This was the first seat I saw,” he continued irritably once he’d swallowed even though THAT was an obvious lie considering he’d walked a fair bit to get to this seat. “Don’t act like you’re special even if you should be honoured I’m next to you.”

james potter spotted at the slytherin dining table wasn’t REALLY a new sight. corrine just didn’t really like the fact that he decided to take a seat next to her. so pretty dramatically, she scooted as far away from as she could. “ fuck off, potter. no one actually wants you at the table, anyway, ” she snapped and she shoved her fork into the pile of eggs on her plate.  

“ you’re so fucking funny, ” she laughed pretty histarically, before she finally rolled her eyes and glared at him. “ for fucks sake, potter. go suck a dick, because that’s the only fucking way you’ll ever be welcomed at the slytherin table. ”

corrine wasn’t upset about what happened last week at the ball. she was more upset that it had to happen at the BALL. she was having so much fun with abigail that she couldn’t help but get pissed whenever that was all ruined when dominique weasley flew up into the air. 

she figured that her anger wasn’t completely focused on whatever happened at the dance, she was angry because this was ANOTHER attack that she didn’t know about. 

so as she picked at her breakfast she noticed someone try and sit next to her, quickly she responded snarkily, “ last time i checked-- we aren’t friends so go find someone else to bug. ”

MARCELLA BURBANK.

Marcella drifted along the length of the dress rack in front of her, letting her fingers drag gently across the fabrics of each garment as she walked. She’d wandered in and out of several shops in Hogsmeade by herself, not really paying attention to what was in front of her nor finding anything she would actually wear. She’d been trying to enjoy what little time they each got in the village to prepare for the upcoming Ball, but the idea of the Ball itself was ridiculous to her. Sure, it was something the staff was trying to do to cheer everyone up, but how could it? There was way too much going on in the outside Wizarding World for everyone to just be distracted from it. Marcella sighed, letting the fabric of the skirt between her fingertips fall from her hand. It was pointless, trying to distract herself in the village. She was just going to swing by Honeydukes and head back to the castle. She’d just wear whatever she’s still got from an old family event.

Marcella wasn’t paying any attention to her surroundings when she turned, smashing directly into the person that had been standing behind her. “Oh, I- um. Sorry.” She managed to stammer out, her own head still in the clouds. “I didn’t notice you, I’m so sorry.”

corrine didn’t like people, so naturally corrine didn’t like shopping in such a crowded store. she had already been bumped into, elbowed, and even hit. she was on her last straw whenever marcella bumped into her.

 all at once the blonde snapped and suddenly she didn’t care if she was in public or not. “ i can see that. start fucking paying ATTENTION, ” the pureblood snapped, rolling her eyes at the other girl.

ABIGAIL NOTT.

     abigail  did  not  know  what  her  father’s  involvement  was  with  the  attack,  but  she  assumed  the  answer  wouldn’t  be  good.  he  was  a  smart  man  who  fought  with  the  side  that  swayed  him  the  most  &  would  accept  his  intelligence.  unfortunately,  she  knew  his  sort  of  intelligence  might  be  valued  more  by  this  group  that  had  come  to  light.  her  lips  pursed  out  as  she  gazed  at  corrine.  ❛  alright,  you’ve  got  me  pinned.  i  GUESS  i’ll  go,  but  only  if  you  promise  to  be  my  date  &  get  me  some  stupid  flowers  or  something. ❜

she knew it wouldn’t take abigail long to comply, what would be better than the two of them showing up as dates ? this was the twenty first century, things like this were socially acceptable-- plus they were going as FRIENDS. though, the blonde couldn’t help but think how wonderful they would look together. corrine grinned at abigail, holding out her pinky in truce “ honestly, abi. do you think i wouldn’t get you flowers ? i’m a dolohov, i was taught how to treat a lady. ”

ABIGAIL NOTT.

       a  ball.  she  couldn’t  believe  it.  they  were  actually  trying  to  have  a  dance  while  the  students  were  still  stuck  here.  how  could  they  even  go  out  to  get  proper  attire  for  it.  abigail  was  in  a  foul  mood  about  the  whole  thing.  ❛  yeah,  because  dancing  is  going  to  solve  all  of  the  world’s  problems.  at  this  point  i  just  want  to  go  home.  ❜

“ stop COMPLAINING, abi, ” corrine said, rolling her eyes at her friend, “ balls are fun. you know even when our parents may or may not be planning to murder the entire potter family. ” her tone was lighthearted, but she was still genuinely upset about not being told about the attack. her parents WERE in on it and a small part of her kind of hope they got hurt just becuase she wasn’t in on it. “ you’re just mad because you wouldn’t have a date. if you want we can go to hogsmede together and get matching dresses ? maybe i could be your date ? don’t get too wet, though-- we’re going as friends of course. ”

LILY POTTER.

somewhere along the hours since the news had been broken, lil had gone numb to the amount of people asking how she was doing. so it took her a moment to realize that the girl wasn’t asking out of some sort of misguided concern. lily’s eyes narrowed and her mouth tightened. 

“what he deserved was some fucking peace. but speaking of karma - your family will get yours, Dolohov. you’ll be here crying and me? i’ll be right where you are to smile at you.”

the taller blonde could have LAUGHED in the girl’s face. yeah right, like she’d cry if her father or mother went missing. she’d probably shrug it off. she wouldn’t CARE. unlike the potters or the weasleys, her family brought her up to be NUMB to shit like this. 

“ do you really think i’d cry about something like that ? you’re too fucking cute, you know that ? i wouldn’t cry because i wouldn’t think for a second that my parents wouldn’t survive-- but if they didn’t, then oh well. life goes on. ” she barked, “ get the fuck over it, it’s about time that the-boy-who-lived finally fucking died.”

NATHANIEL ROSIER.

       great,  just  what  he  needed,  his  alcohol  drained.  but  he  wasn’t  too  bitter  when  he  determined  that  corrine  was  not  in  the  best  of  moods.  after  what  was  happening  around  the  school  he  wasn’t  in  the  best  of  moods  either. 

         he  gazed  down  at  the  girl,  genuinely  interested  despite  his  sarcastic  tone.  ❛  unsurprisingly  i’ve  always  known  that  our  parents  are  arseholes,  cor.  but  go  on,  please  enlighten  me.  did  they  throw  a  party  without  inviting  you  ?  or  is  it  about  this  whole  fucking  mess  with  the  potters  &  weasleys  ?  because  either  way  i  can  see  why  you’d  be  pissed  but  only  one  reason  i  would  be. ❜

she tapped her nails against the bottle and turned it up again. she figured that this was probably the best way to prepare herself for the shit she was going to tell. she was PISSED about the whole attack, but not for the reason that most of the school was. she knew that nathaniel was in the same situation and the information she was going to give him wasn’t going to help either of their anger.

“ no, fucking worse. the arseholes planned the entire fucking thing. my family. your family. my father. your father. they planned the attack. they fucking did it all behind our backs, ” cor spat while handing back his bottle. “ after all of those fucking years training for a third war-- we’re not fucking contacted. ”

NATHANIEL ROSIER.

       all  that  was  fathomable  for  nathaniel  as  the  year  was  drawing  toward  a  close  was  that  hogwarts  was  beginning  to  unsettle  him.  it  was  hard  to  be  who  he  was  as  the  world  was  changing,  &  he  was  finding  from  different  encounters  that  he  didn’t  even  really  know  who  he  was  anymore.  it  was  frustrating,  he’d  been  drinking  more,  smoking  more.  if  it  was  possible  to  make  one’s  body  into  a  toxic  wasteland,  nathaniel  was  well  on  his  way  toward  doing  that.

        nathaniel  was  outside  as  per  usual,  but  instead  of  smoking,  he  had  a  bottle  of  a  honey  coloured  alcohol.  though  he  seemed  to  be  a  rebel,  someone  who  didn’t  like  to  read  or  do  schoolwork,  he  was  propped  with  a  book.  unlike  some  people  of  his  type,  he  still  enjoyed  learning,  there  was  always  something  new  to  learn.  he  was  at  peace,  however  unsettled  it  may  have  been,  when  he  heard  the  movement  of  someone  else.  he  didn’t  know  WHO.

                 ❛  fuck  off  before  i  help  you  do  it, ❜  he  muttered  to  the  unknown  being.

“ oh fuck off, rosier, ” she said towards her friend. she knew exactly who it was who spoke so broodingly-- being one of his closest friends she would have been stupid not to know. she didn’t ask him if she could join him, she just did. 

plopping down onto the hard ground, she quickly took his booze away from him and took a long sip from it. she handed it back to him as soon as she finished drinking most of it and with a long sigh she rested her head on his shoulder. “ our parents are assholes, you know that ? ” she began to rant, “ do you wanna know what i found out ? ”

JAMES POTTER. 

“Why does everyone keep asking me, I’m FINE.” James stubbed out the third cigarette he’d smoked in the last half hour and sighed as he played with the butt between his fingertips instead of getting rid of it, avoiding all eye contact. “This shit happens to Dad all the time, I’m sure he’ll be fine. It’s not the first time he’s gotten into Auror shit.” Sure, this was evidently a lot worse than previous occasions but James didn’t want to think about it because every time he did, he thought he’d throw up. “Staying here all Christmas will be pretty sick. I’ve never seen the Christmas feast before.”

corrine didn’t beleive any of that bullshit. she knew the family was just as shook up as hers was back during the war. it was about time that the fucking potters got what was coming to them. it’s what they got for fucking about with muggles and muggleborn. they were filth and this whole “tragedy” was just karma and everyone with an actual brain knew that. 

“ actually, potter i don’t actually care if you’re ALRIGHT or not. i was just wondering if you were in denial about your father possibly being dead, ” those words flew out of her mouth without a second thought. “ because honestly, it’s about time someone rips those silver spoons out of you and your siblings mouths. daddy may have saved the world last time, but i promise you that he’s gonna end up dying this time. ”

LILY POTTER.

“look, i appreciate the gesture, really, but all i’ve heard over the last 24 hours is oh lily how are you holding up how’s your family, and right now, i just wanna eat some dinner. maybe get out of the castle for a bit, ya know?”

they’re all handling it differently. for lily, she’s not sure it’s really sunk in quite yet. more than anything, lil wants to be with her mum, and the rest of her family. 

“i just wanna go home.”

 the blonde really didn’t know what the potter girl was talking about. she wasn’t asking about her well being because she actually cared. she was asking because she thought it was funny. she found that the tragedy as inevitable and she was actually HAPPY that her family had something to do with it.

“ please, like i give two shit about your precious little family, ” corrine responded as she rolled her eyes. “ it’s about time that the-boy-who-lived got what fucking he deserved. ”
