Scarlet Blade review
Scarlet Blade is a free 2 play MMORPG currently in beta which recently opened its doors to anyone who want to try the game out. The main point that this particular game offers is an all-female crew, and throughout the game, there is no doubt that this is aimed at a mature audience. From the very start, you get to see one almost-naked girl before the next, with fully working breast physics, sensual walking animations and weapons like the whip and cat claws.
But it would be a mistake to take this for a game that is nothing but butts and boobs. There is an actual MMO game there with quite a few features. You start at level one and work through quests and a story line like you would expect from a typical MMORPG. As you get stronger, you unlock skills, talent points, new weapons and armor pieces. There are multiple areas to level through, PvP arenas, mounts, pets and so on. Combat is fast and fluid. The way this story works is that the character on the screen is actually a digital avatar that you, as a 'Commander', control.
With that said, it won't compete with current triple A titles anytime soon. While graphics are fine, they are not great. There is a story, but it is fairly weak. And while there are two sides to choose from, the only point of that seems to be for PvP, since their classes, skills, stories and quests are almost identical. There are a few interesting tidbits however, like the fact that you can click on any NPC or creature name in your quest tracker and your character will start running towards it.
Overall this is a fine game to try out if you enjoy watching your girl character bounce around on the screen. In fact, depending on who you are, you might get a lot of fun out of it, and this is one of the few games in this 'mature' niche that has an actual fun, full featured game out of it, and isn't a thin shell meant to watch 3D female characters bounce around. But if you're just looking for a good free MMO, and you don't care about the almost-naked girls, then there are many better free choices out there.
Pros:
Fast and fun combat
Funny quest lines
Breasts and butts
Cons:
Graphics are not great
Both sides are too similar

Massive free 2 play MMO shutdowns in Japan
Steparu reports that Q1 2013 is seeing a massive amount of free 2 play MMO games being shut down in Japan. Some of these include Argo Online, Ecol Tactics, Concerto Gate, Corum Online, Prius, Hellgate and more, with over 15 titles closing doors in just three months.
The Asian market is often a precursor of what will happen in the west, so seeing so many games shutting down indicates we may see a similar event happening later in the year. Already we have seen many games go free 2 play simply because they could not get enough subscribers to stay afloat, but if it turns out that even with a F2P model these companies cannot sustain those games, then all of these smaller indie titles may be going away.
