sebastian's studyblr turned 2 today!
haven’t even moved in yet and I already have my first lecture reading to do...
holy shit i am going to college in FIFTEEN DAYS
I love you imslp I love you public domain music
are you really a music geek if you don’t listen to your dog barking in their sleep and figure out what intervals they’re barking??
my 2022 ap exam results
ap lit: 5
ap physics c mech: 5
ap us gov: 5
ap comp gov: 4
super happy with these results. honestly i should not have gotten a 4 on comparative bc i literally did not take a single note all semester but major props to my teacher for explaining stuff well enough in class that i didn’t fail the exam 🤪
Checking FB and saw this from the shelter I got Harry from. I wanted to share. If anyone would be kind enough to transcribe I would be grateful, I don't have the spoons for it rn.
QOTD: how the heck do you write for choir?
AOTD: i have no freaking clue.
(alternate AOTD: cLuStEr ChOrDs)
just. submitted. my. last. math. assignment. ever.
this class was literally hell but i’m DONE! and i’m never going to have to take a math class ever again!!!
y’all stop hating on the poor octopus. mans just wanted to vibe
highlight of my college application process:
meeting a composer i’ve looked up to for years (if you’re in high school/college band and i said his name you’d probably recognize it) and having him say he was “very impressed with all aspects of [my] writing at this point in [my] career” and that my compositions show “wonderful creativity and promise” 😎
college
I got into all 3 music schools I applied to as well as the more selective college without a music school that I applied to just in case I didn’t get into any of the music schools.
During the audition process, I had been planning on going to one school, but after visiting all 3 music schools, sitting in on classes at 2 of them, meeting and talking with faculty, touring the campuses, and talking with my band directors and oboe teacher, I decided to go to another one, and I just submitted my tuition deposit!
Reasons I chose the college I did:
had a strong music school
favorite of the 3 oboe teachers (although it was really close) and I really liked the other woodwind faculty I met, including the woodwind area director
I liked everyone in the oboe studio (although tbh oboists are great everywhere)
I liked all the composition professors I met
I liked the orchestra director and although the current band director is retiring, he’s absolutely amazing
Amazing campus, gorgeous performance/rehearsal spaces, lots of really nice practice rooms
diverse student body
have the clubs I want (fencing and a couple of others)
none of the 3 colleges that had schools of music/conservatories were super strong academically, but this college was the best of the 3
students were super nice, to me and to each other, even outside of the formal “college tour guide” setting
100 days of practice (started 3/7/22, finished 6/14/22)
my next concert has some really hard music, plus we have solo and ensemble festival coming up soon and i just want to get in shape for music school next year in general, so i’m going to start the 100 days of practice challenge. 100 days from now gets me to...THE DAY BEFORE GRADUATION?!?! let’s do this :)
rules: oboe lessons count, after school rehearsals count if i didn’t have study hall that day to practice. i’m going to be travelling near the end of this and i won’t be able to bring my instrument, so i’m going to bring a reed and practice long tones, articulation, vibrato etc. on the reed and that will count for those days.

Day 2 (3/8): ✅ mostly worked on concert music

DONE!!!
woohoo, i’ve gotten into one music school, still waiting to hear back from the other two
2 auditions down, 1 left
i’ll write a longer post once i’m done and have my admissions decision, but for anyone who still has auditions left: good luck, you’ll do better than you think
i actually wanted to have school today, but a snow day was nice i guess.
senior year goals
Get an A- or above every quarter
Get a B or above every test
Daily review of notes taken that day
Review all notes taken that week every Sunday
Compose at least one piece every month
since it’s january 1st (and almost the end of the semester, but seniors end early so this actually might be pretty close to the midpoint of this year), i figured i’d update my progress on this.
Get an A- or above every quarter
first quarter: yes (all As except an A+ in band)
second quarter: no, barely (so far, 2 A+s, 2 As, 1 B, and my multi teacher still hasn’t put any grades in but that’s going to be either a high A or an A+
Get a B or above every test
quizzes: no. tests: yes.
Daily review of notes taken that day
haha nope, focusing on this for the next semester
Review all notes taken that week every Sunday
haha nope, focusing on this for the next semester
Compose at least one piece every month
I’ve written first drafts for 3 pieces in the four and a half months since school started: 2 for full concert band and 1 for woodwind quintet, plus i’ve written about a sixth of a very rough first draft for another full concert band piece, so even though i didn’t do exactly what my goal was, i’ve been writing fairly consistently which was the goal of this anyways.
