The news Bray greeted her with removed a weight from her shoulders she wasn’t aware she was carring. In hindsight, she should have been looking for him. She should have done more. Instead, she had simply assumed her was doing his Shadow Broker job, or whatever it was he did, for two long years. And then Liselle died. Merely at the though, she holds the glass she’s holding with more force than necessary, and she must force herself to unclench her hand, lest she breaks it. She never admitted it out loud to anyone, but she does consider him as a sort of child to her. She was aware of the sort of sibling-like relationship between him and Liselle, and she was even pleased by it. He’s a good kid. 

In the brief span of two years, though, she thought she had lost the two of them. And now the prodigal son returns. Aria buries any thought about Liselle at the back of her mind where they belong, before she raises her gaze, scanning the crowd. 

When she spots him, she almost stands up. Of course, her butt remains plastered to Purgatory’s filthy couch. It wouldn’t look well to show so much anticipation in front of the rest of her guards, wouldn’t it? Despite maybe some of them being aware of her — particular affections towards the Drell, she wishes not to give them more to speculate on. It’s instead with a jerk of her head that she sends Bray to get them more drinks. And some privacy. “—- you’re back.”

Feron greeted them with a firm nod, as he evaded the batarian crossing his way and sat down at a respectful distance. Yet close enough for them to exchange words and, if necessary, the OSD he carried with him. "Took long enough." The drell felt almost guilty for making her wait for his return, even though dropping off the radar for two - to normal lifespan standards - long years was barely his fault. "Needed to get used to being free again first."

He joked, though his words didn't quite hold the same humor as they used to in the past. Words, now as faint as his once colorful and shiny scales. Too much had happened that Feron still had to work out for himself and partially showed in his appearance. "I've heard what brings you here, but that's not all why I came to see you." Indicating the club was barely the right place for either of them to discuss reasons or the matters for his disappearance.

Now that he faced Aria, it was hard to resist the urge to give his condolences. Mother to not only one of his closest friends but somewhat last remaining sister since the Drell's own journey had brought him to Omega. It had to wait since he was well aware that the Asari's reputation was highly at stake at this very moment. "Maybe we could change the location for the answers you're looking for." Patting the fabric of his jacket pocket his frills tensed as he suggested it. Well aware that not even her closest subordinates were allowed to speak to her in the way Feron had earned that right over the last two decades. "I've got some nice (and warmer than the club provided for his needs) little spot down in the wards."

“You know, you keep fretting over everyone else, but you won’t even take a second to relax, yourself.”

“As always, Feron. Nisha’das.” Her name was added in a quieter tone so few would hear, but directed with such a smirk and knowing glint that Nisha shuddered. She hadn’t expected any recognition at all from the Asari, and it didn’t sit right being called that name. No doubt it was meant to unsettle her, just for the Matriarch’s own amusement. She tugged on Feron and hurried them out of the club as quickly as possible. 

The Nisha Feron had been getting to know of late had retreated into the shadows the moment their ship docked on Omega. Leaving Aria’s presence made no difference. The place was suffocating, teeming with the dreg’s of the galaxy, and frightening in an all new way now that she could see. As they moved through the station, she found it hard to recognize where they were without being able to feel her way through the corridors. Her brain worked overtime to line up the memories in her mind with what she was now able to see. 

At least Feron’s presence was a comfort, his arm tight around her waist, protective and possessive. She didn’t mind the latter; no one would bother her if she so obviously belonged to someone. As they made their way toward the clinic, a laugh echoed down a crossing corridor, and Nisha stumbled. She recognized that laugh. Gathering herself, she began walking faster, pulling Feron with her. “Let’s hurry to the clinic.” 

Startled by the echoing laugh, yet for different reasons, Feron tried to make out its location for a brief moment before he even noticed how it affected his girlfriend. Helping her back on her feet with a small hiss falling from his lips he agreed and led the way to the clinic as fast as he was currently able to.

Cold corridors of his old district under construction didn’t help making him feel more chilly than he already did, letting his body temperature fall at an increasing speed as they finally arrived their destination. Arms wrapped around his lanky frame, Feron watched her interact with Maelon and tell him about what had happened while the drell’s vision started to blur and become more unfocused.

He headed out to meet Aria as soon as he convinced Liara to be recovered enough to get back to work. Though not before they'd destroyed the Cerberus cruiser The Illusive Man had sent after tracking them down. Doing so felt better than he openly admitted to his friend given that the plan was partially an act of personal revenge on the organization after the intel Feron had dug up on what happened to Liselle, while he was imprisoned, in the Shadow Broker's archives.

He was unaware if Liara knew about that information herself, though he doubted that it would be much of the younger asari's interest under the given circumstances. However, the drell destroyed the specific data after making a copy for personal use before they eventually parted ways.

Tracking her down to the Citadel turned out to be easier when you knew which strings to pull and who to contact, even though some of the old guards weren't present much longer. Not that he missed Griss and Anto that much anyway. There would only be one spot for him to expect Aria's presence. Out of sheer habit, she would pick the local nightclub. Feron would have been amused by that if those facts didn't have such a bittersweet taste to them as he blended into the crowd on his way to find his destination by the lower bars of Purgatory.

“Cranky, huh?” Kaidan released a chuckle, shaking his head. “Lately, I’ve been so stressed out, but… yeah, we can try. Though, you have been always so paranoid about stuff, kinda hard to imagine you not cracking a joke.” It was the way Jeff had found to deal with stress, and Kaidan wished he could vent his own problems through jokes, but even that was difficult for him. Everybody had their own coping mechanisms.

“Well, there was a time I hesitated to use my biotic powers in full potential. Hell, even now, I worry about that. People are still scared of us, so I tend not to… be too harsh with my abilities. It’s… good to release some energy at the Reapers, though I still wonder if I’ll lose control again one day. It’s something I intensely fear, Jeff.” After all, he had lost someone because of his actions, and since then, he was scared of others seeing him as some kind of monster. “Maybe I’m lucky that I can be myself on the battlefield, but the line can be crossed easily… believe me. The hardest thing is… keeping yourself from stepping out of that limit.”

He smiled, shrugging lightly. “That’s the problem, Jeff. I can break something… and unintentionally. If I lose control, I can hurt innocent people. Most biotics in the military are controlled, because they know their powers are dangerous. If they refuse to see that, they’ll be kicked out just like Kai Leng. Shepard’s a Vanguard, but he’s very mellow and rarely uses his abilities. You should see him embarrassed, though… he breaks glasses with his biotics a lot.” Not that he would hurt anybody, but Kaidan was aware they had to stay cool most of the time.

“I appreciate the trust, Jeff.” And he knew it might be difficult for the pilot to expose his feelings. “Back at you… I trust you with my life.”

"Yeah, cranky." He rolled his eyes sliding a bit more down the smooth leather of the sofa as he leaned his head back against it. "I'm sleeping like shit lately, K. EDI probably caught me a few times having these vivid dreams again by now. And as if it's not enough already, that stupid argument with... John."

Jeff sighed. Internally planning to sleep on the bridge already to avoid spending too much time on the crew deck. "It's the first time we fight, I have no idea how to deal with this and you know how much I hate feeling helpless." He confided in his best friend.

Joker gave him a lazy smile, having heard those reasons somewhere else before. "You both are so scared of losing control, but what about if you try trusting your own abilities? It can't be that hard. I mean, maybe it is... what do I know, right? I have to plan two steps ahead before even taking the first one, pretty much since I remember, to not accidentally break a femur." He damn well knew what it took to stay in control, it was merely an hour ago that he had lost said necessary control when he tripped.

John chuckled softly at Jeff’s comment, blushing slightly as he carefully removed the man’s boots. If it was someone else, John would probably stutter, embarrassed, but it was Jeff and he had learned how to love his jokes – even if they had a bit of truth behind them. He did his best not to hurt the man, leaving his socks on since it was a bit cold due to the temperature of outer space. Then, John helped Jeff to adjust himself on the pillows, allowing him to choose his own position.

“I’m not sure if I should sleep right now.” He rubbed the back of his head as he climbed onto the mattress after removing his own shoes. “Who’s going to keep an eye on you if you fall asleep?” There was always the possibility, and what if John had his night terrors while Jeff was sleeping? He didn’t even want to think about that. “I’m not really tired, just… I can sleep for an hour, but nothing more than that.” It wasn’t about not showing that side of his to Jeff, but he cared about the man’s safety. He could seriously hurt him badly.

He rested his back on the mattress, wrapping an arm around the man gently, but giving him enough space to move. John loved Jeff’s smell – it helped him to relax even though he was seriously worried about the outcome of that moment. His skin felt good on his fingertips as he caressed the man’s neck, the stubble rubbing roughly against his hand. How much he loved that man to the point of worshiping him.

But yes, John was feeling tired, and his expression couldn’t hide that. The whole Reaper War was being hard on him, a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders. John didn’t want to fall asleep, not when he wouldn’t be sure Jeff would be prepared to flee if something happened. However… god, his embrace calmed him down so much.

"Hey, we're not spiraling again okay?" Jeff looked back through the mess of brown curls that had fallen into his vision while adjusting the pillow behind him. Gently reminding John, that the matter was taken care of with their previous agreement as he demanded the free spot next to him to be filled.

"I'll be fine, John. No sleeping together at the same time, I promise. If it helps to keep you relaxed we can ask EDI to set up a reminder when two hours are about to be over in case you fall asleep." It was a serious suggestion, though he hated how the request made him feel like he was treating their synthetic friend as if she wasn't more than a simple VI like Avina. After all, they could also just use the alarm clock that stood on the nightstand behind the pilot instead. If it wasn't involving him changing his current position again and keeping him from closing the distance between John and himself.

Jeff lifted his head to let him place his arm around but then opted to carefully move some more so he eventually found himself laying half on top of the man's chest after getting the tags out of the way. Karin would kill him if she knew that he found that position comfortable given the pressure on his ribcage it would sooner or later add. She'd know better than anyone given that she once had to break it to let this moment happen.

In spite of the seriousness of that memory, the pilot was smiling against the fabric of John's shirt as he enjoyed what he was doing. Teasing him by brushing his own fingertips along the outline of John's shoulder, while he sucked on his bottom lip when those skilled fingers reached the slightly more curved back of his own shoulders. It wasn't exactly a sensitive spot for him, mainly the reason why he usually preferred to sleep on his stomach against better judgment.
