Taejin Mission 45: Beneath the Earth | Basch, Yuffie
Scientist's POV:
It was fascinating. Unfortunate, yet fascinating.
The scientist allowed himself this thought as his team made preparations to head to the town of Agardon. He had certainly not expected to come to work that morning with such a scenario waiting for him. Still, it was the most excitement he'd had in his profession for quite some time--as a scientist, he would have expected that every day be filled with excitement, but such wasn't his reality.
Four scientists were they, supposedly to be accompanied by two of the army's soldiers. Their task was to investigate the cause of the rather unfortunate natural disaster which befell the town of Agardon, a little to the north of Oerba. They would be traveling via chocobo--if they rode in pairs, they would be taking three, else they would need six. Would there be any chocobos remaining for use elsewhere, the scientist could only ask himself as they left to meet the soldiers by the chocobo stables.
Ignoring the comments of his three colleagues, the scientist began to wonder what could have caused the ground to break so viciously. His sources told him it'd been called a natural disaster, but the scientist suspected something more. He'd also been told a network of mining tunnels stretched beneath the town--it was all quite suspicious.
The team scientists arrived only to find the two soldiers already waiting for them. They were quite different in appearance; one was male, somewhat rugged and tall in stature, while the other was female, seemingly more nimble. After a quick introduction (here, the scientist introduced himself as "Madakin"), Madakin climbed onto one of the chocobos.
"Please take care of us well," he said to the soldiers in turn. "A preliminary analysis of the situation suggests we look into the mines for the cause of the sinkholes; I trust you've been informed similarly in your briefings? The ground to the north of Oerba is a relatively stable area, so my best educated guess is that something beneath the ground triggered cave ins that resulted in the breaking of ground, something more than nature having its way.
"But, ah, I'm getting carried away. Shall we be off, then?" As he said this, Madakin took a look around the stable. There were enough for each to ride her or his own chocobo, but a good number were already missing. Likely, many soldiers had already been deployed before them. He decided nothing on the matter, delegating that decision to the soldiers and their riding preferences.
