@fadingtale
i genuinely think that any reader of fanfiction should write and post something once. not just because it would really illustrate to them the amount of work it takes and how terrifying it can be to bare yourself to the internet and how disheartening a lack of interaction can be, but also how fun and exhilarating it is. how amazing some kudos or a single comment can make you feel for weeks. this account is for being mean, yes, but i cannot stress how consistent and wonderful a hobby writing fic has been for me since i was a young teen.
Yeah but what if it's bad and you get told it's bad and then you re-read and realize that yeah, it is bad but it was the best idea you could muster?
What then?
then you keep on writing or you give up. idk what to tell you, i’ve had anons that i blocked hunt down niche side blogs of mine to tell me, in detail, just how much they hate my writing. and that’s part of the risk of baring yourself to the public. and it fucking sucks. but that’s what every single person who posts fic or fanart or edits or whatever fandom content you enjoy risks every time they do, because there’s always going to be someone out there who thinks it sucks. i still think the risk is worth it, when it can open you up to a level of connection with your online peers that you’ve never experienced before. but that’s just me.
given the poor kudos+comments to hits ratios i’ve gotten lately, you’d think i’d be less confident in blaming shifts in fandom culture and start reconsidering my own writing abilities, but unfortunately for yall my ao3 subscriber count keeps going up so clearly im right and im going to be insufferable about it forever
there are only two reasons that i, as a fanfiction writer, do not reply to your comment:
1. you’ve written something so long and detailed and kind and enthusiastic that words cannot even begin to describe how much your comment means to me and i am so scared of fucking up the response that i don’t respond at all and it eats away at me
2. you have written literally nothing about the fic itself and there is not a single part of what you said that can even be responded to.
in ye olden days of fic it was super common to ask for concrit (constructive criticism) in the author’s notes. i did it at the end of almost all of my fics from like 2007-2011. but something shifted and everyone stopped and at first i thought it was like how people stopped tagging smut as lemons/limes but now i wonder if it’s because the crit stopped being con.
oh my god why am i so awkward i need help
Does anyone remember my Jason adopts an ugly cat au??? I came back with part 2 all of a sudden hah

Let me know when your whole life goes up in smoke. That means it's time for a promotion.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006) dir. David Frankel
i love how the devil wears prada 2 seems to tackle society losing touch with analog media like magazines, journalists getting laid off in the name of optimization and profit, and this growing collective delusion that ai can replace the deeply human, deeply soulful thing that art has always been
Sadly this is true
