The sight of the cottage was as surprising as when first they had encountered it; shelter upon a seemingly harmless mountain with the sun shining and the surface of the lake sparkling innocently. A façade of welcome, knowing full-well what was to come when twilight arrived. Judged by the arrangement outside the building, this must have been the first day, when Emiya headed the armada curry concoctions and all appeared perfectly well. Sigurd and Brynhildr hanging off one another, the Prince of Lanling attempting to aid Yu Mei-Ren in processing the absence of her beloved Xiang Yu and Tomoe engaging in her passion for VR gaming. But in attendance was one whom Chaldea shouldn’t have encountered yet — a Fae Knight of the Britain waiting for them on the other side of this idyllic setting.
“I see now. The Stars must have brought you here for some reason. But we should think of a cover story. There are many Servants on this mountain, but if they hear your True Name, they might jump to conclusions and mistake you for the cause of this Singularity. Are you alright with sticking to Gawain while we think of something? We could always claim you’re from Arthur’s Round Table — he isn’t around to dispute it”.
It was inevitable really that the sight of a Servant unfamiliar would draw attention, and Illya had been the one to stray from the alternative of her brother’s side, leaving Ruby close by so that the Mystic Code couldn’t interfere with crass commentary.
“Mashu, who’s that? Oh, Da Vinci said that other Servants had been sent ahead of us, so you must be one of them, right? I haven’t seen you in Chaldea before — I’d remember such a pretty and muscular lady”. And if somehow she did, Ruby would be sure to change that.
Once again, she woke up to another unfamiliar place, this time wearing some unfamiliar clothing. If memory serves, this was called a swimsuit, although it looked oddly similar to another outfit she had back at Chaldea.
The sights around her were a little more recognizable because of the servants gathered. And they were all dressed for the occasion of summer as well, her mind was swirling with questions of how she got here, thankfully Mashu had noticed her and approached, but only left Barghest with even more questions.
But for now, it was safe to assume this seems to be a different time for Chaldea, and when Barghest wasn’t summoned yet.
“I see, if it is as you say then it would be safer for me to claim being Gawain again, it should hold up until this singularity is resolved. Although I’m not familiar with what exactly is going on and why everyone is wearing a swimsuit, I will have to ask you to give me details later when no one is around Mashu.”
And it seems they didn’t have to wait to see if their cover story works as Illya had wandered over to see what was going on.
“Er, you are correct. I am a recent summon and it was decided I would be deployed here as well. It was a last minute decision but I am determined to help any way I can, Gawain is here at your service.”
