@fairyknight
thank you tomodachi life for letting me see whose genes win if my ships have children
it's been a while so like this for a small to medium length starter!
"T-...tis a jest!"
"Greg the Worm? I was unaware that the Worm Devil had come back..." She doesn't know if there's a Worm Devil. Did it become...a fiend?
● Worm Devil now? LARP? Was this some sort of LARP? Should she play along?
"Oh, uh... right! Greg the Worm Devil! Said he makes the best fried rice in the city! I think he slithered into the sewer when his shift ended though!" Did the city even have sewers come to think of it?
"Surely 'tis a jest."
"You're saying the Shrimp Devil fried that rice?"
● "Uh... No? Pretty sure some worm named "Greg" fried it based on his nametag?" Shrimp devil?
● "You guys realize it's way easier to just stab someone to death, right? Then the only hole you need is the one you're going to bury them in."
AND THERE'S NO REACTION GIVEN, standing in place, still enough to replicate an actual statue, to make one wonder if he really can't see or if it's his choice to ignore it. well, if you didn't count the fact he's now moved his hand rest a knuckle against his plaster chin in thought. ❝ Certainly. I wouldn't claim to be the first logical thinker to pursue a sequence of patterns. Though that hardly limits my curiosity as to what has them elect candidates for their comings and goings in the moment. ❞ it could be a myriad of things, though one thing was for certain...
❝ Is it an emotional distress or connection? Or perhaps a string of mathematical reasoning that denotes it. Ah, it could even be as simple as entertainment value. Which is to say... for those who tote themselves as entities beyond our reach, it makes them far more fallible than divine, perfected beings. Were the hypothesis true, of course. ❞
● Was he trying to pretend to be a statue? She had some thoughts about this behaviour that she'd yet to utter, but if he got on her nerves then she might. Somehow, if they were choosing people based on their "entertainment value" they wouldn't pick someone that liked to stand around like a statue anyways.
Rather than blurt that out, Baobhan exercised restraint.
"It could just be random, y'know? Like they're just picking names out of a hat or something? Leave it to humans to get a taste of power and do something that stupid with their spare time! I can totally see it!" She spoke like she didn't have a number of unscrupulously bad decisions under her belt as a fairy.
❝ One must wonder what incentivizes our captors to return home one person and not another. ❞ why yes, the man suddenly standing in the middle of the sidewalk with a plaster head is monologuing aloud in the wake of a sudden, missing companion. ❝ Accumulated time spent upon the island does not seem to be taken into consideration when electing candidates for the ensuing eclipses. My two years of stay has not warranted me a trip home, at least none that I recall, and many other have found this place their second home far longer than those who have disappeared. Then what would the shared variable amongst those who are returned be? ❞
● Creepy plaster head, yikes. "I've been here almost five years now, and if they knew what was good for them they would've sent me home a long time ago. If you're looking for some sort of pattern then I doubt you're going to find it. If there was one, someone would have figured it out well before now, right? I highly doubt you're the first one who's tried." The Archer leaned in front of him, waving a hand in front of his head to see if he could even see through that thing.
Eula continues laughing, light, carefree. It speaks volumes that she can let her guard down completely with someone who isn't Amber or Albedo. Baobhan is still thoughtful of her past, even this far along, a shared sentiment with the knight when she thinks of her own. She's looking for reassurance, something that Eula is content to give, returning the gesture with a squeeze of her own. "I wouldn't be opposed to it, I'm quite content doing just about anything with you." Grand gestures were fine, and this was appreciated, of course, but simply spending a relaxing evening would have been just as well.
Two years, had it been that long? Time really flew by when you were happy, it seemed. Her start in this city hadn't been great and she was still liable to keep to being a hermit, but Baobhan's constant presence always made the days more interesting. Truthfully, it gave her a reason to wake up in the morning aside from work. "Hah!" she snorts at the mention of complaints, the very notion far from her mind. But, if she could be a little selfish… "My only complaint, I suppose, is that I have never been able to find a good time to introduce you to people important to me."
"Hm, but I guess that's not your fault, right? More of a complaint toward this city."
● "I wouldn't catch a cold if we slept out in the rain, bodies pressed together all warm... I mean, but you would! So that kind of vacation is totally out of the question! Knowing you, you'd keep going to work while sick and I'd have to pin you in bed." After saying as much, she made an expression that suggested she was considering the idea. Well, she hadn't planned the trip to be so vanilla that such an evening activity wouldn't be entertained, right?
The idea that anyone would want to introduce her to others for reasons beyond her being a princess was one she'd never really considered, but she did feel pretty tickled by the sentiment.
"E-Eh!? Well, it's not like there's no way you'll be able to do that, right? With all the weird shit that happens in the city, who knows if they'll launch us into your world or something? If not, maybe people you know will come here?" On the flipside, there weren't many people she cared about introducing Eula to. Morgan obviously, but that was the most important one. "There is a fellow knight of mine here if you'd like to meet her eventually. She's just an annoying brat though."
● "Have you heard the rumours about the disappearing students? They suspect it's a campus killer, but if that was the case wouldn't they be finding bodies? Unless they're so good at hiding them... I wonder how thorough you'd have to be to not get caught like that?" Not the least weird thing a literature major could say unprompted to a stranger.
"Point made and point taken," he says with a light shrug. "Forgive me. I was too excited."
It just goes to show that he most certainly had more to learn about other beings. A fairy. A vampiric fairy. IT was unheard of. "I have never heard of your kind. I am most intrigued."
● "You've never heard of fairies, or vampiric fairies?" Because the former was a little hard to believe. "I guess it depends on your world's history. In some timelines fairies die out in general. We simply became legends, stories to tell to children to scare or delight them." It was a truth she had to face about Panhuman history. There was no Baobhan Sith that survived the absence of Mystery.
"Chances are high you'd never see someone like me in your own world though. The circumstances of my existence were... special." The conditions of her Lostbelt probably couldn't be replicated. "But there are probably others like me. Different fae live by different rules and feed on different things. I'm not the only type to consume blood."
@fairyknight
"You are a vampire, and yet, there is something more to you than just that. What is it?"
● "You have that backwards. I'm a fairy. My vampirism does not make me a vampire by definition." Maybe he'd sensed it, maybe he'd noticed her ears and fangs, or maybe he'd been able to smell the blood in the cup she was sipping from. "Or is a vampire bat literally a vampire to you?"
● The fairy was stationed at her usual spot on the boardwalk with her stall and a number of personally designed high heels set out on top. "Extremely fashionable heels for sale! One of a kind, in plenty of styles! Men, women, unisex! I also take commissions if you'd like personalized shoes!" She was about ready to soft launch the business she was running from her home as an actual store, but she just needed a little more money.
The familiar feeling of the setting sun against her skin, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, and the sand between her toes made it hard to believe that this was just a simulation. Eula still had her doubts about getting lost in something like this, but it was fine so long as she was with Baobhan. Nostalgia washes over her, memories of the first time she'd set foot on this isle. She's silent, taking it all in, and smiling all the while.
"To be honest, I think I couldn't stand you," She chuckled at the thought. In truth, it was much more complicated than that, but would it be right to not give the other a hard time to start? "It's precious to me, too. Because it's also when I started getting to know you."
Even now, the fairy had gone to great lengths to make sure they had a good time. "You really overprepared, didn't you? How long has it been since we've been together now?"
● "Hey now! I am perfectly easy to get along with!" Not even Baobhan could say that without laughing at the end. She knew that she could be entirely unreasonable, and back then she'd still been working through the memories of her life and death. "But you had been willing to hear me out even despite all the shitty decisions I made in life. I kept running away from them... Maybe I still am, a little." She took Eula's hand and gave it a light squeeze, not to reassure the knight but to look for reassurance of her own.
"AHEM! Well, when you work from home, you have a little more time to plan stuff like this. Would you prefer I be underprepared and we end up sleeping in the rain or something?" She saw an out to change the subject at least.
"Are you trying to catch me off guard, Eula Lawrence? We're coming up on two years now! Two happy years, I think? But if you have any complaints, you'd best air them out now while I'm feeling benevolent!"
@lightfallsword
● Even though she knew that it was all a simulation, there was something soothing about seeing the sun set over the ocean as she stepped onto the sands of a deserted island through a portal (with her arm wrapped around Eula's). "Surprise~! We've been wanting to get away together for a while now, right? This whole time I thought this Intraspace thing was hot garbo, but as it turns out it can do stuff like this!"
Baobhan gave the arm she was wrapped around a playful tug to reorient the knight so that she could see the more modern beachside cabin behind them. "Something I remember that time we were on that deserted island and spent the night together. We didn't get along at all back then, huh? But still..." She pressed her cheek into Eula's arm. "It's a precious memory of mine... or whatever!"
"So let's spend our Valentine's night on the beach! Want to start a fire? I made sure the cabin was stocked with wine, and it's air conditioned! Oh! Have you ever danced on the beach? I even brought fireworks!" It was rare to see her being so carefree in this way.

"It's 11:11. Make a wish!"
● "I wish this guy talking about making wishes would fall down some stairs. It'd be so funny."
"I think he could if he tried, but he hates horror movies. Especially the juicy ones."
"...Although, that'd be a pretty good idea for a costume. He could go as the puppet, and I could be the cursed video tape from The Circle... Just gotta get a creepy kid to crawl out of a well and we're set."
● "Coward! The only truly scary genre of movie is romance! Those movies can be so trash! So sappy and feel good... Ugh." She would tolerate them for Eula's sake, and definitely wouldn't use them as learning material for how she should act in her relationship! Even though she had totally done just that.
"There's a lot of creepy looking people around here, so you probably wouldn't have a hard time." Zero self-awareness.
