WELCOME HOME MARKY C ! ! !
Tony embodies a Jay that breaks confinement. He is a figure with a sense of masochistic dedication, an expansive appreciation for beauty and a capacity for intense yearning which allowed him to romanticize the brutality of his industry. He is quoted in his memoire, which was essentially the catalyst for his escape:
He doesn't yearn for a better, different life than the one he has—because he knows he's got a home in this one.
The good cook doesn’t look beyond the kitchen because nowhere else will you find such creative power, and nowhere else will accept you—if you’re willing to look beyond the dysfunction. Tony’s intense yearning ( for hedonism, recognition, power, beauty, understanding) is what led him into the industry, and his persistent yearning was his escape into a different life as a famous traveler and food journalist, but ultimately his downfall. Tony is a cautionary tale about the consequences of escaping your magical, toxic world against your aging body for the dream of connection and reality.
*long hit* yuppppppppppppppp
1.07 The Buffet (2017) / Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (2025)
matty is so festive
this movie is gonna be amazing!
Y’all, I just got back from my month on the farm and first thing I did was watch NTBTSTM (finally)…I thought it would be more psychosexual
i love that it's literally canon that jay's mom didn't encourage him to rest or relax and actively guilted him about it even as a child and even when he wasn't feeling well but now as a grown up he gets to live with Matt and be a sleepy dreamy princess who dozes off during their movie nights and consistently looks like the coziest person in the world tucked into their couch. idk I just think it's sweet :-)
shhh the patient needs naps on the sofa to live
looking at their apartment in the dark feels kind of perverse tbh like that is PRIVATE that is a SECRET that is NOT for us
the vital binding ingredient of nirvanna the band the show is of course Time. all its poignancy is contained in the unalterable fact of eighteen years passing. and the longer it goes on the more intense that feeling grows. And yeah it does drive me certifiably fucking insane
