You know what’s annoying? How no one can say they’re not a fan of Taylor Swift without the narrative that they’re misogynistic being attached to them.

Like I should be able to say “The reason I find Taylor’s music unappealing is actually nothing to do with Taylor herself, and everything to do with the way she is overhyped, over praised and over awarded, and spoken about like the greatest thing since music began. But that’s only because she’s white. Which isn’t to say the songs aren’t good, but it’s to say they’re hyped to the extent they are and given the praise they are because she’s white, and if she was anything other than that, she would not be a 35 time grammy nominee and 10 time grammy winner with the same music she’s put out. Her music is fine but the overhyping of fairly average white content to the extent people have with Taylor makes it incredibly unappealing because artists of colour have to work so god damn hard to achieve about 10% of that praise. And that’s absolutely nothing to do with Taylor herself and rather society at large” and have people respect that. But instead the valid criticism of white superiority in society gets swept away bc any crticism associated with America’s Golden Girl MUST be misogyny.

And how do I know all this? Because Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Tupac, Diana Ross, Brian McKnight, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Sammy Davis Jr, and Run DMC have never won a single Grammy. Despite being arguably some of the most talented performers, musicians and songwriters in their fields. But like I say, when you’re not white you work 10 times as hard and get 10% of the praise.
