Did Lance and Elly count as a pairing? : pn “We’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you wanna stop and feel the rain?”
“C'mon Fisher!” Elly barked as they scrambled up a crumbling hill. Behind them was an angry swarm of Cerberus troops. “We don’t got all day, Grail!”
The shouts were punctuated by gunfire that inched closer with each new volley, and Lance paused long enough to call up his shield, the impact skidding him backwards as the vanguard returned fire for them both.
The sky above was tinted a pale, luminous green. Through the misty clouds, there was the faint glitter of starlight. The stones jutting up around them were smoothed by wind and rain - polished and faintly translucent, lighting up with the brilliant flashes of gunfire.
Lance planted his shield, the orange glow lurid in the pastel light as the vanguard swept back a group of their attackers with a shimmering blue shockwave. “It’s incredibly pretty here. Have you noticed?” He asked, boots scrabbling on the sea-glass gravel.
“Grail, we’re in the middle of a thunderstorm, and you wanna stop and feel the rain?” Elly joked before vanishing into a snap of blue.
Lance backhanded a trooper with his shield, listening to the solid crunch of impact, then knelt to pick up a pebble, holding it up to peer at the twilight sky through it’s milky depths. “I may even stop to smell the roses while we’re at it.” He chuckled into his comms.
“Does yer new boyfriend enjoy that philosophical air you’ve cultivated?” She snorted, reappearing nearby with an ear-popping displacement of air. “I have t’say, it’s a real change from angry an’ glum.”
Lance felt his face turn red in the dim light, and promptly beaned her with the pebble. He turned to stalk up the hill, then paused. “You know, I think he just might. You should bring Cal here for a date, you know. It’s almost romantic.”
“It is nice here, isn’t it.” Eileen said as she followed behind him, blowing the head off a straggling trooper. “I mean, except for the people trying to kill us.”
“Nothing’s perfect.” Lance mused. “So let’s make the best of what we’ve got.”
