Chronic Headaches are Ruining my Life

That is it. I am done letting my damn headaches ruin my life. I have put in for disability and am still working with my doctor to get my headaches under control. I have lost another job thanks to my headaches. I have nearly strained my relationship with my dad to breaking because of my headaches and the fact he does not believe they are not manageable. (this is apparently my own fault).

I am going to move forward and be successful, despite these fucking headaches. I have emergency commissions open. My book is available on Tapas to read. I also have a Patreon to support my work. I want to move forward. Here is a linktree to all of my stuff and my commission prices.

I wanted to apologize to all of my followers for not posting many faerie facts in a while. You see life has gotten complicated. I have a new job, health problems, a wonderful boyfriend, I may be moving soon, and I'm currently writing my very first book.

I honestly don't think I'll be doing anything more on this blog for quite a while. However, if you like the Faerie facts I write, or just like my writing in general, then I would love for you to follow me to my new lore blog for my book.

Fairy: Oh my god stealing people’s names has been categorized as a war crime for like a hundred years. Do I seem like the kind of fairy that would do war crimes?

Me: Well yes, but that’s just my impression of you personally. Not fairies in general.

Fairy: You’re smarter than I thought.

Me: So is the fairy monarch democratically elected?

Fairy: I think the one from a small corner of Alabama might be but for the most part, no. It’s still decided by a contest between the three oldest children.

Me: What kind of competition?

Fairy: Well it used to be to the death but that was too violent so these days each kingdom comes up with their own. In mine I think they play marbles but I’ve never seen one.

Me: Okay so why shouldn’t I say thank you or give gifts in return for favors?

Fairy: That’s mostly a regional thing but where I’m from it’s insulting to the wealth of the person giving you stuff. Like you really only thank people when what they did was like a huge burden so if you thank someone for giving you something that’s like calling them poor.

Me: Fairies have wealth inequality?

Fairy: I mean we technically still live under a feudal system if I’m being honest but with modern technology and ethics nobody notices.

Me: Do you have Internet down there?

Fairy: Only dial-up. That’s why I come to your house.

Fairy: So you’re telling me that human men don’t think that frog eyes are sexy?

Me: Well not most of them to my knowledge.

Fairy: So I bought these contacts for nothing.

Me: Hey man you don’t have to be a frog spirit to lure men into your clutches. Plenty of dudes are into cat eyes and ghoulish moaning.

Fairy: You really think so?

Me: I know so! Stop doubting yourself so much. You can definitely find some mortal men to lure into the timeless void for several centuries and adopt a demon cat with you.

Fairy: Thanks, man. That means a lot.

Me: No? It’ll cut up our insides and kill us.

Fairy: Ooohhhh. Oh no.

Me: What did you do now?

Fairy: More like... what I’ve done over the past three centuries since I moved out of my mom’s house.

Me: Did the coughing up of blood not cue you into anything?!?!!

Fairy: I thought that humans just spontaneously die sometimes!

Me: No we don’t! There’s physical reasons for these things!

Fairy: So... no more bringing nightshade and glass entrees to the potluck?

Me: No!

Fairies: Look man, even we don’t mess with mushrooms alright? Sometimes they open up a portal to the human world and it’s just best to not question it.

Me: So wait. You don’t make the fairy circles?

What do you think of the Icelandic Christmas fuckers called the yule lads

“Icelandic Christmas folklore depicts mountain-dwelling characters and monsters who come to town during Christmas. The stories are directed at children and are used to scare them into good behaviour.” is it just me or is using stories to scare the absolute shit out of children apparently a universal instinct? also, i would be so remiss if i didn’t include the absolutely astounding illustrations. introducing:

Hi, Icelandic person here!

The Yule Lads’ (that’s a direct translation, the meaning is closer to “Christmas men” in Icelandic (and we also call the american Santa by that name)) mother, Grýla, is a troll/giant woman who used to eat naughty children just before Christmas (They say she’s on a new diet these days, or dead, we’re not sure). The Yule Cat, who is her and her family’s cat, just ate kids who didn’t receive a new item of clothing for Christmas, and naughty children didn’t so in the end it really comes down to the same thing.

Grýla also has hundreds of other children, some of whom were Yule Lads in different parts of the country (My favorite “rejected Yule Lad” is Faldafeykir, who would create gusts of wind to blow up the hems of women’s skirts. It is unclear whether he did this so they’d get cold in the freezing winter or if he was just a pervert). The ones we now recognize were handpicked by author and poet Jóhannes úr Kötlum, who published a lengthy poem about them in 1932.

Nowadays instead of causing trouble they travel to human settlements in the last 13 nights before Christmas, one each night, and leave gifts for children - the kids must place their shoe in a window, and that is where the gifts appear.

For those interested, the order is: Stekkjastaur, Giljagaur, Stúfur, Þvörusleikir, Pottaskefill, Askasleikir, Hurðaskellir, Skyrgámur, Bjúgnakrækir, Gluggagægir, Gáttaþefur, Ketkrókur, Kertasníkir.

Fun fact: all the Yule Lads were searching for food in some way, and this was what made them such nuisances when food was short (One would drink the milk from the sheep, one would steal all the burnt food remains that had stuck to the pans, and yes, Candlestealer would eat the candles). The only exception is Hurðaskellir (Doorslammer) who was just being an asshole.

Deals

Never try to strike a deal with one of the fair folk, it will never end well. Some say that the worst deals come from demons, but the Good Neighbors are just as cunning in their trickery.

For example, if one were to wish freedom from responsibility, they may find themselves suddenly transformed into a tree, or a stone, or even a puff of cloud.

And of course, if they have their own desires, they may just lay cards on the table that favor them and not the mortal. Though they will make their desires seem as trivial as a bowl of cream.

Adder Stone

It is a stone with a naturally occurring hole through it. They are commonly found across the North and Baltic Seas. They are said to have magic powers.

Magic

They were believed to:

Provide protection against eye diseases.

Repel evil charms.

Prevent nightmares.

Cure whooping cough.

Ability to see faeries, witch disguises, and traps when one looks through the hole in the stone.

Recovery from snakebites.

Popular belief states that a true adder stone floats in water.

There are several claims to the origin of the adder stones:

1. Hardened saliva of large numbers of serpents. 2. Made by the sting of an adder. 3. Comes from the head of a serpent. The stone was held in high esteem amongst the druids. It was one of their distinguishing badges, and was accounted to possess the most extraordinary virtues.

Pliny describes the stone as an amulet (Natural History book xix):

“There is a sort of egg in great repute among the Gauls, of which the Greek writers have made no mention. A vast number of serpents are twisted together in summer, and coiled up in an artificial knot by their saliva and slime; and this is called “the serpent’s egg”. The druids say that it is tossed in the air with hissings and must be caught in a cloak before it touches the earth. The person who thus intercepts it, flies on horseback; for the serpents will pursue him until prevented by intervening water. This egg, though bound in gold will swim against the stream. And the magi are cunning to conceal their frauds, they give out that this egg must be obtained at a certain age of the moon. I have seen that egg as large and as round as a common sized apple, in a chequered cartilaginous cover, and worn by the Druids. It is wonderfully extolled for gaining lawsuits, and access to kings. It is a badge which is worn with such ostentation, that I knew a Romanknight, a Vocontian, who was slain by the stupid emperor Claudius, merely because he wore it in his breast when a lawsuit was pending.“
