okay not to ocpost again but the worst thing about having an oc is sometimes they become The Character to you. and you need to talk to someone about it like wow I canât stop thinking about The Character⌠but in order to do so you have to like sit them down and explain everything about your oc first. and then itâs just you explaining your writing ideas. i need to talk about them the same way i would talk about any random character i love to someone.
I'd love to make like, an animated nature documentary about fantasy monsters and their hunting tactics
Like it's 100% nature documentary, detailing diets, genealogy, nesting rituals, ect. but any time it's time to show a carnivorous monster actively hunting its picking off a member of a steadily dwindling adventuring party every time

(USAmerican trying to imagine a societal environment) Okay, so picture a highway,
inability to correctly perceive 3d objects is in fact far more dangerous when someone is driving a car next to you then when they're like, sending emails to you.
can we focus on the gnome for a second
wait sorry i was not wearing my glasses. that is a cat
these are the people i have to share a highway with
THIS IS AN OC CHECKPOINT
give me 1 cool fact about your oc RIGHT NOW
UPDATE it doesn't even have to be 'cool', give me a fact about ur oc!!!!
The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. So when we go down there with submersibles and turn on Big Lights to see, we invariably and dramatically alter what's going on, in the same way that it's generally difficult to observe the natural behaviors of terrestrial animals if you whip out a megaphone and shout HEY GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING at them first.
A humble snubnose eelpout on its way to the whale fall buffet when some nearby humans give it a quick, unintrusive study:
I put this in the comments but feel it needs a reblog- Check out some of Dr Edith Widderâs work on light in the deep sea! Among other things, she used the bioluminescence of stoplight fish to deduce wavelengths which most deep sea animals canât perceive and used that to create light filters to be able to film with minimal disturbance! And thatâs how we got 25 minutes of giant squid footage!!!!

Level 1: Asylums are scary because there's crazy people there.
Level 2: We shouldn't treat mental health facilities as objects of horror because it stigmatises mental illness.
Level 3: Asylums are scary because there's psychiatrists there.
it really is quite bad for your military to have an image of itself as a warrior class. what you really want is for your soldiers to think of themselves as boring professionals who will fill out a report form if someone gets a little too warrior ethos out there
Out of control Edwardian youths refuse to clap at production of Peter Pan, force distraught J.M Barrie to pull out rarely seen "Tinkerbell Fucking Dies" ending
You probably know this but shitpost ruining fun fact for anybody who doesnât:
When the play first was performed, JM Barrie et al were so concerned this might happen that they instructed the orchestra to drop their instruments and clap at this point, just in case
I did not know this and I'm grateful for being informed
Peter Pan edited by Anne Hiebert Alton (2011)
(sorry to interrupt joke post but) this is true!
Children not clapping did happen too, (and some were even expected to have hissed, which was later written into the 1928 playscript and 1911 novel). But my all time favourite anecdote about it is from Pauline Chase (who played Peter)'s intro to Peter Pan's Post Bag 1909:
Children love to clap their hands at the play because then they feel that they are really part of it, and you can see them holding their hands poised ready to seize an opportunity. Their great chance is when I ask them to clap their hands if they believe in fairies, and so save Tink's life. But they are very wrathful if any one claps who has the reputation of being a cynic, and once there was quite an uproar in the front row of the dress circle because of a girl who clapped. Those about her pulled down her arms angrily. "How dare you clap," they cried, "when you know you don't believe in fairies!" There was one dreadfully hard-hearted little boy who came to the theatre not to clap. That was his object for coming, and he came round "behind" to tell me so in the middle of the play. His teeth were firm set. "I won't clap," he said doggedly; "I'm not going to clap." And when the time came he didn't clap; above the clapping of all the others I could hear him shouting from a box, "Peter, I'm not clapping."
(Tink was revived each time anyway)
I am a certified hater of audience participation but let me tell you, it is almost impossible not to clap during this scene. Even as a full grown adult.
All these industries with shortages of workers and they canât figure out why.
Im proposing the hypothesis that the reason we donât have enough doctors/pilots/bus drivers/etc is that maybe, just maybe, having your entire industry function as a lifelong hazing ritual isnât the best recruiting strategy.
Doctors are subject to 8 years of post-secondary education and are forced to work 48 hour shifts.
Pilots and other transportation workers have absurd hours of service requirements that start your rest period as âthe moment you shut the vehicle downâ and can be as short as 9 hours in some cases.
Railroad workers have to be available on-call 6 days a week and be ready within two hours notice. They donât get sick time.
Retail workers have to keep a veneer of politeness against any and all abuse or they can be fired.
Truck drivers get paid by mileage and rarely see pay for shipper or receiver delays.
Work should not be designed to make you a miserable burnout and yet here we are.
I feel like in the movie so much of Grace and Stratt's strange relationship is a snowball effect of Grace's initial complete obliviousness to who/how powerful she actually is. She doesn't say "I'm the Director of the Petrova Task Force" when she comes to his school, she just says "I'm with the Petrova Task Force." And so at first she's just This Weird Lady Who Kidnapped Me, and then she kidnaps him again onto the boat and suddenly he's getting shoved in front of a room full of scientists and told to explain the astrophage breeding and oh no oh no now there's EXPECTATIONS, so she stops being This Weird Lady Who Kidnapped Me and is This Weird Lady Who Kidnapped Me And Much More Importantly Is The Only Familiar Presence In An Extremely Scary Situation. (Enter instinctively grabbing her hand when she comes to tell him to sit down and also whispering the Venus thing into her ear instead of talking into the microphone.)
Then however much later, oh she's dictator of the world you say? Whoopsies, too bad, I've already, to her perplexity, emotionally imprinted on the dictator of the world, I guess.

my problem is that I loooooove a clunky, heavy-handed storm metaphor, like you can pry those billowing clouds and lightning strikes and the booming thunder and heavy scent of incoming rain from my cold dead hands, I am ALWAYS gonna be placing characters outside juuuust before a storm rolls in
