Eyeliner study: Approximately the same size/style line with brown eyeshadow, black eyeshadow, and black liquid liner. (Eyeshadow applied with a damp brush)
Dear anon,This is a surprisingly hard question to answer because I don't know your hair type! So my general suggestions is: to make it smooth the cuticle has to lay nicely and not be rough or sticking out at weird angles. (This is also what helps make it shiny) Healthy hair has intact cuticles that aren't damaged and lay oh so nicely and make everything shiny and smooth. So some general health tips I suggest are deep conditioning once or twice a week (regularity is key!) and cutting back on heat styling (like a curling iron) and teasing. (Which rips the hair and roughs up the cuticle) I also suggest switching to a sulfate free shampoo. Sulfates are HARSH and they dry out the hair and make the cuticle stick up and look rough and messy. That one switch is honestly the main difference in my hair routine that keeps it looking pretty. PLUS Sulfate free shampoos are actually pretty easy to find at the drugstore these days so don't worry about breaking the bank! If your hair is rough and frizzy but still mostly straight try using products with keratin. Keratin is a protein that is really important to your hair but be warned that is can straighten out curls and waves. Also, if you want to smooth down flyaways try spraying hairspray on a brush (bristles, not a paddle brush) and lightly run it over a finished do. This is a pretty good quick fix for a particularly frizzy day! (I've also found just spraying REALLY lightly and smoothing with my hand works, even if your hair is down) This was probably longer than you anticipated but I hope some of this helps!
People think liquid liner and cat eyes are IMPOSSIBLE when really they just take a little practice. Here's how I do mine!
Supplies:
- Liquid liner ( I used Maybelline's line stiletto )
- Mascara ( I used Covergirl's lash blast fusion )
- q-tips
- some sort of moisturizer or makeup remover ( make sure it isn't oily! )
STEP ONE:
Make a base line. Just line your eye pretty normally to give your wing something to connect to. I usually make mine thicker at the edges but right now it doesn't matter too much.
STEP TWO:
Make a wing! The angle and length are up to you, but make the basic shape of a wing on one eye.
STEP THREE:
Match your eyes. This is probably the hardest part and it takes a lot of practice for some people. I find that it helps to tilt your head upwards quite a bit while you're looking in the mirror. Also make sure the two sides match when your eyes are closed as well. This is where you'll probably use your q-tips most to erase places you screwed up. I figured out that the tiniest bit of moisturizer on the end of a q-tip works amazingly well to precisely remove liner and is less oily than my makeup remover!
STEP FOUR:
Connect the lines. Just make a nice little outline!
STEP FIVE:
Fill that puppy in.
STEP SIX:
Fix anything that went wrong. I decided I didn't like how long and curvy mine were so I went in with a q-tip to fix that. This step is just a last check to make sure you like what you have! It's important though because sometimes you miss a spot or the eyeliner didn't fill in right or something weird.
Cat eyes are daunting but hey, they are classic and gorgeous and look good on anyone and everyone. I still have bad days where they don't seem to want to be even, but most of the time I take maybe a few minutes tops, so you can do it too! If liquid liner scares you, you might start off with a gel to get a little more accustomed to the craziness that is a winged look. Have fun!
Chlorine, sun, salt, sweat, and the general unpredictability of summer can be harsh on your hair. And summer break starts really soon for most of us, so here’s some tricks to keep your locks lovely in the summer sun!
1. POOL HAIR
Long hair sucks while swimming anyways because it seems there’s just no way to keep it up and out of the way, but your hair can get as unhappy as you are! Chlorine strips nutrients and moisture from your hair (skin, too) so it’s a good idea to keep a light leave-in conditioner with you to apply when you don’t have time to shower directly after swimming. Also make sure to condition deeply more often in the summer, especially after swimming!
2. BEACH WAVES—Not so much
Ok, who’s hair ever looks good after going to the beach? Truthfully? Usually it just ends up salty, sandy, dry, and tangly. (You know it does, don’t deny it) So instead of leaving it down and exposed, apply a hair mask or heavy leave-in conditioner to your hair before going to the beach. Wear it in a bun or braid to prevent tangles while the conditioner moisturizes, repairs, and protects from the salt and the sand. The heat from the sun helps it to work even better!
3. SPORTS
I play summer sports, so I feel your pain. But wearing your hair in the same pony every. Single. Day. Is going to cause breakage. Ponytail holders, even the metal-less kind, cause friction and rub against your hair, screwing up the cuticle. The solution to this is to wear your hair differently every day! Wear a high pony Monday, braid Tuesday, pigtail braids Wednesday, low pony Thursday, you get the picture. Switch it up so you don’t end up with a frizzy halo of small, broken hairs from the same medium-height hairdo. This trick won’t show results immediately, and is more preventative than anything else, but hey, who wants a layer of thin, short hairs in a ring around your head?
4. SWEAT
It’s 90° outside, of course everyone is going to sweat! But don’t wash your hair every single day. We all know that over-washing is bad, but we still over do it! Just remember that dry shampoo is your friend. And so is time. As time passes, you can train your scalp to produce fewer oils by washing less often. I used to wash my hair every other day or else I was a grease ball, but now I wash it every 3-4ish days and I rarely look greasy. I preach this all the time, but skipping a wash consistently is really good for your hair health.
5. SCALP BURNS
Ok, so this isn’t about your hair, but scalp burns are the worst. If you’ve never had one, you are a lucky, lucky, lucky duck. Scalp burns happen on your part and hurt and itch and peel like a normal burn, but with the added bonus of looking like horrible dandruff and being extra gross, so avoid them by either wearing a hat or pulling your hair back in a way that leaves no part. Use hairspray if you have to, but if you’re going to be outside for hours, protect your scalp too!
....A lot of what I just said is common sense, but I think everyone could use a little reminder every now and again!
Yeah don’t throw away broken powders cause it takes maybe 5 minutes to save them. The alcohol evaporates away and you’re left with a kind-of-messy but still usable powder!
Where did u get the soap to clean your make up brushes?
Pink Soap can be purchased at almost any craft store! And there are always cheaper alternatives. Any brush cleaner will typically do the job of cleaning your brushes, without the cost.<3, Caitlyn
How To Grow Really Long Hair (Spoiler: It takes some work)
So you chopped your hair off. And you hate it. Or maybe you just like long hair. Either way, you want to grow it out but for the love of all things holy it grows at glacier-speed. There are ways to get around this! Namely: Reducing breakage. And here's how!
(Above: My hair a few months ago.)
DON'T WASH IT EVERY DAY
Your scalp makes nice natural oils and nutrients for your hair, and if you wash it every day, your hair misses out! Invest in dry shampoo and skip as many washes as possible. Google good, easy up-dos (Like sock-buns and braids) that will make your washes go further. Also, water causes breakage because it makes your hair extremely delicate and prone to snapping. The more you avoid this, the less hair you will loose.
CONDITION. CONDITION. CONDITION.
Healthy hair doesn't snap off as easily. Pretty simple, eh? Find a conditioner that works for your hair. Experiment with brands! And give the conditioner several minutes to do its duty every time you shower. Let it stay in your hair for several minutes while you shave or something. Also, concentrate conditioner on your ends, which are always the most damaged and fragile because they are the oldest. Try using moisturizing and protein-rich deep conditioners or hair masks every week or so, just for a boost. (Plain-jane coconut oil works really well!)
BRUSH WHEN DRY, COMB WHEN WET
Brushes are so harsh for soaked hair, so use a wide-toothed comb! I always brush my hair before I shower to get tangles out, then comb my hair while I have conditioner in to really distribute it well and to detangle it gently. (I highly recommend this.) A little trick for gentle detangling: Work from the bottom up. Brush the very tips and get a little higher with every stroke until you hit a knot. Then work up from the bottom of the knot until its out and continue up your head! This is a lot less painful, too!
SKIP THE HEAT
Heat absolutely sucks for your hair. There is no debate, no wiggle room, it is a fact. I suggest wet-set curlers for you guys that like curls (Check online reviews for products before buying!) and definitely embrace your natural texture, you curly girlies! Any texture has the potential to be absolutely stunning, it just takes knowing your hair well and treating it right! So experiment with products to find something that will help you ditch the iron.
BLEACH = DEATH
I speak from experience. If you want your hair to grow quickly DO NOT bleach it. Especially if your hair is on the darker side. Bleach can make some stunning styles, but it does slow down growth by speeding up breakage.
TRIM YOUR ENDS
I'm not going to tell you to cut it every 3 days or 2 months or whatever. Just get a tiny trim whenever you are able to sit and pick at split ends! Split ends just split higher and higher, so it's better to nip them in the bud. Besides, if you follow the above advice, split ends will probably happen less often!
Healthy hair is far less likely to break and far more likely to have the nutrients it needs to grow. Just remember that everyone's hair grows differently so if your friend can grow hers out in a month and it takes you six, don't be discouraged! Your body is trying its hardest, all you have to do is give it a little hand.
Everyone knows they shouldn't sleep in makeup. But it's okay if we tried to get our makeup off, right? Wrong. The reason you shouldn't sleep while wearing makeup is that your skin regenerates itself every night while you are asleep! The skin is constantly regenerating, but it works double time when you're dreaming. If the oils from your makeup penetrate your face while your skin is reproducing, it might cause irritation and/or acne.
Step One: Cleanse your face to remove most face makeup and to get rid of dead skin cells. Even if you don't wear face makeup, this step is important! I use St. Ives products on my face, because I have sensitive skin. However, the product shown is an exfoliating wash. Using these daily could damage the skin. (See: Marcie's post) For every day use, a light cleanser with a small percentage of salicylic acid works wonders!
Step Two: Remove all excess makeup with baby wipes and/or baby oil. Baby oil is my holy grail product, because it resembles any expensive eye makeup remover BUT is extremely gentle and cheap. Use cotton balls and baby oil to remove eye makeup and even the most waterproof of mascaras will come off. Baby wipes should be used on the tougher skin of the face - NOT THE EYE AREA!!!!<!<!<!<<!1! Unless you like irritated skin and wrinkles.
Step Three: Moisturize your entire face evenly. I don't care if one half of your face leaks oil so much you drown. Moisturize evenly. It is your mantra. Getting the skin used to an even amount of moisture will stop it from attempting to generate oil itself (thus, causing breakouts).
Have fun washing your face! Kisses, Caitlyn <3
P.S. If you look closely, the baby wipes pictured have 'Cushy Tushy' in italics.

Long time no see, beauties! Today I'm going to demonstrate an easy and cheap way to keep yucky germs off your brushes.
Step 1: Run your brush(es) under warm water. Once they're thoroughly wet, squirt a dime-sized amount of brush cleaner on the back of your hand. (HINT: Makeup brush cleaners can be very pricey! I use Pink Soap, a paintbrush soap brand. This works very well for all of my brushes, but dish soap is an even cheaper alternative!)
Step 2: Swirl your wet brush in the soap and bring it to a lather. Then rinse your brush (and your hand!) in warm water. I clean my brushes on my hand, because it doesn't waste towels.
Step 3: Makeup brushes are very delicate. You don't want any of the soapy water to get inside the brush and loosen the bristles, so set your clean brush(es) on their side(s) overnight.
Much love, Caitlyn <3
