BOTW's story works a lot better than TOTK's story because of the difference in their driving questions.

For BOTW, the main question you ask from the start is "Who am I?" and also "What happened to Hyrule?" You learn the answers to these questions over time as you journey across the land and remember things about your past. The answer to "who am I" is "I am the chosen hero," and the answer to "what happened" is "We failed to save everyone." When you learn that, the goal changes from "go and do the quests because the old lady said to" to "Do what you couldn't do back then and save everyone."

In TOTK, the question is "Where the heck is Zelda?" and it's not your question, it's everyone else's. All the NPCs want to know where she is and you're just kind of standing there while everyone discusses it. And then the game throws you an early game side quest where they tell you exactly what happened to Zelda, and then you just have to putter around for 99 years and watch everyone run blindly towards Fake Zelda while you just follow them without saying anything until the final hour.

And then they force you to listen to the exact same spiel about the Imprisoning War, 4 separate times, without changing a single word. Whereas in BOTW, you get to learn about the Champions and who they were and their relationship to you, and explain the Calamity to you in one cutscene.

Plus, they don't expand on anything from BOTW in TOTK. Link and Zelda are just living perfectly fine in society despite having basically been dead for a century. And instead of expanding on the Sheika mythos, they just try and pretend they never existed and put the Zonai in their place as the Ancient Precursor Race with all the Ancient Technology That's Been Lost To Time.

So yeah, I'm a little bit disappointed in the story of TOTK. BOTW had an interesting narrative that meshed well with the open world format and was executed perfectly. TOTK just had an excuse plot with no substance.

BRUSH AND FLOSS YOUR TEETH

Let me be brutally honest and blunt to those who need it:

- it only takes one day of not brushing to have plaque start to build up. The more it sits there, the more it hardens and eats away at your enamel

- having your teeth get so bad that root canals won’t save them, suck. Having a tooth pulled is disorienting. Getting dry socket sucks and I wish that upon do one.

- infected teeth hurt like a bitch. Black tea bags help reduce inflammation. Clove oil also helps tooth pain. Root canals or getting teeth pulled is what fixes tooth abscesses.

- gingivitis and gum recession will sneak up on you, and will cause more problems fast

- getting dentures SUCKS. The whole process sucks and I hate it so much. I’m lucky it’s my top teeth that were the issue. Getting a ton of teeth pulled is awful. Your face will be swollen for several days, your sinuses will feel badly infected. Dry socket is an almost guarantee tbh. More rust for infection while healing from several pulled teeth. Not to mention the dentures themselves- at first they feel like you’re wearing weird Halloween teeth things that are too big and uncomfortable. Your teeth aren’t your teeth because immediate dentures are built to only be temporary. You’ll slowly get used to them, but you’ll get used to them. You need to relearn how to eat and drink and talk. With permanents, you’ll be able to be suuuuuper picky how they look and feel in your mouth, but that’s not until 6+ months of healing. Implants are super expensive, so you’ll prolly get stuck with dentures. Which fun fact, if there’s nothing mimicking teeth in your jaw bones, you bones will go silly mode.

If you are already immunocompromised, you do not want to fuck with your oral health

Now, what’s some ways to encourage yourself to brush your teeth?

- get a variety of fun flavoured tooth pastes!! I have watermelon, mango, strawberry, blue raspberry, cotton candy, peach, and mint!!

- get a fun, electronic toothbrush! Go to the “kids” section, trust me. I have a dinosaur one AND a Spider-Man one.

- find a way to make it fun. I like to read fics while brushing my teeth. The night before, I find one I want to read first thing in the morning, and the only way I can start reading it is while I’m brushing my teeth

while dentist bills are expensive i still strongly encourage everyone to try their best to either apply for insurance or keep a savings to go at least once a year. one function of dentists nobody talks about is to identify cancers (yes, you can get cancer in your mouth!). if you get a cancerous tumor that grows too big you will have to get surgery that will cost you 10 times as much if not more that one dentist visit a year. they may have to cut off a chunk of your skin to graft it to the part of your mouth theyll have to cut off. then you have to get radiation therapy for months to ensure the cancer is gone. you'll have tons of prescriptions that will give you brain fog. you will no longer be able to chew solid foods, you will be on a feeding tube for months and then if you're lucky maybe you can eat really soft foods. you will produce less saliva which will make your mouth dry, more prone to developing infections, and you won't be able to break down solid foods. it's a huge life changing event that costs tens of thousands of dollars. my mother went through this. go to the dentist. the temporary monetary setback from a checkup is nothing compared to what will happen if you do not have a professional examine your mouth once a year. i know many of you are in tough situations with little to no pay but you must make this a priority. apply for whatever insurance is available to you. you can get medicaid if you are low income, and that includes if you have no income at all. cut spending on frivolous things. and i know many medical offices make you wait months for an appointment but you gotta plan for that. make the appointment for the checkup well before you think you need them. ask them to notify you about any cancellations so they can fit you in that situation
