Why did Natsu go Berserk? (Spoilers for Chapters 19, 20, 21 of FT100YRSQ)
For this theory to work, it will be based on another fairy tail theory by Seven Laila (You can find her here:Ā https://sevenlaila.tumblr.com/). In short, Seven Laila theories that Lucy Heartifllia is the new author of the book of END, and now Natsuās life is bound to Lucyās (here is the theory:Ā https://sevenlaila.tumblr.com/post/183154244024/this-is-going-to-be-pretty-long-but-please-read).) Of course, this explains why Natsu is still alive after Zerefās defeat but, what are the further implications for this? By which I mean, what is ENDās encrypted purpose now that Zeref is dead, and what does that mean for Lucy and Natsu? After all, the main goal of the Etherious is to kill Zeref.Ā
In chapters 19-20 of FT100YRSQ, it isĀ emphasized that if Mercphobia is not stopped he will inevitably destroy Elmina, as well as Team Natsu as well. However, Natsu is already very much aware of this
So in order to beat Mercphobia, Natsu has to eat (and heās also coerced into it by Team Natsu) Igniaās flames, but this is what ultimately triggered ENDās curse power.
Many forget the special case Natsu is for an Etherious. Fundamentally, he is human because of his body (as stated by Zeref, who kept his body nice and preserved until he could reincarnate him). However, Natsuās soul/life force is a different story; Natsuās lifeforce needs to latch onto another because Natsuās soul is remarkably fragile (itās most likely based on ethernano but, thatās it). So because of his human body, and his attachment to Lucyās lifeforce/soul (which is also weak because she isnāt immortal like Zeref and thus has a less stable and strong lifeforce compared to him), ENDās curse power is now harder to control (sending him straight into bloodlust) and is even harmful to him.Ā
Though why does Natsu suddenly decide to kill Mercphobia now? After all, Natsu likes him and states he is a good guy. Plus, when Caramille begs Team Natsu to kill Mercphobia, Natsu becomes very hostile towards her.Ā
Itās because of E.N.Dās new purpose, to protect Lucy (and his other friends). Now, this is based on the theory that Lucy is, in fact, the new/another author of E.N.D and thus makes Natsu, in some ways, sworn to her. Moreover, Natsu has been always highly protective of his friends and especially Lucy. Thus, partially because of Lucyās indirect influence over him, this urge to defend and protect them has been intensified; to the point where he thinks Mercphobia needs to be killed (as well as everything) in order for Lucy (and the others) to be safe.Ā
Now, this makes Lucyās āItās Alright, Iām hereā an even more powerful message. As essentially, she is telling herĀ liegeās, Natsuās, goal of protecting her, (and the others) has been accomplished and itās why Natsu calms down. Itās also why he says this straight afterwards,
Itās over;Ā this is a question he is both saying rhetorically in shock but alsoĀ to Lucy as confirmation. I bet you if she told him that āno it isnāt overā in response, he would have just gone straight back into berserk mode.Ā
E.N.D never disappeared, it/he just has a new master.
