lief quickly shook his head. “no, i mean it. even if you don’t feel brave, you still acted as such. and, you’re taking this all very well. truly, you should be proud of yourself,” he insisted. he felt some embarrassment wash over him as he rubbed the back of his neck. “i’m certainly not handsome. and, i’m definitely not as handsome as the rest of the princes out there. some of them are really very… very lovely,” he said with a sad sigh, thinking about one in particular. however, he had to force himself to come back to the moment. “i could knight you, you know,” he offered as they drew closer to the ground. “and, what i say goes in that matter, don’t you think? i wouldn’t knight just anyone,” he continued, trying to bolster up the other’s confidence a bit more as he finally led waylen off of the car and onto safe ground. “now, if only i had a sword to do such. i could do it with anything, really, but you deserve the entire ceremony.”
waylen’s heart was easily warmed by the other’s words, a smile slowly creeping onto his lips as his gaze dropped to his lap. it was clear just how flustered the other’s praise made him, it wasn’t something he was accustomed to receiving. “most people wouldn’t freak out so easily. but i suppose that doesn’t matter… it’s how you handle the situation, right?” a small scoff escaped him as he lightly hit the other’s arm. “don’t downplay your good looks, you’re absolutely the type to make people swoon. i bet you’re well sought after back home and not just because of your title.” while he could detect sadness in the other’s tone, he wasn’t sure if he should question it or not. he never knew what could potentially be a touchy subject for someone. “what you say matters, especially since i would be protecting you if you knighted me.” he was happy that the chair was back down on the ground and he eagerly hopped off, only to follow close beside the other. “i saw the scary blacksmith with a balloon sword earlier. perhaps he would let us borrow one. or maybe not… he doesn’t seem like a people person.” he chuckled as he shook his head.
lief nodded in agreement. however, the small hit had him laughing. “stop! i am not. there has only been one person who has ever ‘sought’ after me. everyone else has kind of overlooked me. i mean, my brother is leagues more handsome than i am, so we can see why i’m not the favoured one in that aspect,” he lightly countered, the small smile on his lips indicating that he wasn’t upset or jealous in any way. in fact, he would rather keep to himself than have all eyes on him. “you wouldn’t have to protect me. a knight can choose who he swears his loyalty. once knighted, you’re always knighted. no one can really take that title away from you,” he continued as they continued to lengthen the distance between them and the ferris wheel. “a balloon sword, huh? i think i could maybe convince him to allow us to borrow it. every man has his price, after all. maybe he can even bear witness since there has to be someone there to say: yeah, that happened,” he said with a laugh.
