Welcome to the Fairy Vearth, a place where I post random x reader fics I've written. This is a multifandom blog, based on my current obsession. I wouldn't recommend following me because my interests are really varied and there is no schedule to when I post. rules // faqs // masterlist
OMG, I love your two-window writing style, it's so refreshing. Do you plan to keep writing about One Piece?
Have a great day!!!
đ
Anonn hiiiiii đ„čđ„č This was such a nice message to wake up to đ„°đ„° I'm glad you liked These Two Windows; I wrote it in a sleep deprived state and ended up with 9.3k words cos the dynamic between Zoro/Luffy/Reader was so yummy.
I'm so intrigued by what you mean when you say my writing style is refreshing?? Not in a interrogative way, of course! Just super curious on how people perceive my writing and therefore me. If you could come back (anon or otherwise) I'd love to pick your brain on that đ„șđđ
And, yes! I do plan on writing more One Piece content. I'm actually in the middle of writing stuff, they've just turned out to be longer, multi-chaptered pieces, so I'm hoping to finish and edit everything before I post at least one chapter.
My biggest WIP right now is Nobodies, No Crime which is a Kid/Killer/Reader fic. It's a Crime AU, where Reader works in illegal murder clean up, and gets hired by Kid and Killer. Just like, T2W, Kid and Killer are in an established relationship, and Reader joins in, much much later down the line (it's a slow burn). Dramatic shenanigans ensues. Obvious trigger warnings are blood, murder, crime, gangs and violence. More will be added as I write. I have 8k words at the moment, but it's definitely going to grow into a bigger monster. Obviously, the vibes are very very different from T2W, but I'm hoping people will still love it. I've been hemming and hawing on the fic for years, since it's very nicheâpolyam, modern AU, and it's so self indulgent đ đ Â
This is my focus for now, though I have dabbled in shorter one shots here and there. Nothing worth showing though, yet. I may post them one day. Most of them are about a really niche character that isn't very popular, so I'm not sure how the numbers will go.Â
This got out of hand LMAO Thank you so much for letting me rant, for reaching out, and letting me know you like my stuff. I know I'm not very active on here, I'm just shy 𫣠I really want to try to build a community though, so if anyone đ«”đ«” sees this, send me an ask, or DM me please! I'm lonely and have no writer/reader friends on here. I hope you have a great day, too anon! đđ
I'm in the @op-xreader-zine ! Keep an eye out for X Marks the Spot, dropping September 1st. I've written a piece for Bellamy, but if he's not your cup of tea, there's a lot of different characters, by a ton of talented writers and artists as well!
And massive love to @cebwrites for being my spot artist for this fic. Love the way you've drawn my mans :,,) I want to bite him so bad
Good luck with your challenge, I stopped commenting because I never got a reply back which sucksss đđ„±
in all honesty, writers don't owe you a reply.
and i get where you're coming from; it is nice to get a reply to a comment you left! but expecting one back feels a bit entitled, doesn't it? you already got a fic FOR FREE. you leave a comment to thank them for this gift. and then you expect them to thank you in return?
i don't mean to sound ungrateful because i can promise you, it's not like us writers are getting swamped with comments LOL. i have many writer friends and no matter for how many years we've all been actively writing, a single comment will still make our day. no matter how small that comment is! just a simple "hey, i loved reading this" or "it's 4am and i'm reading this instead of sleeping" or a silly keysmash shows us that someone out there really enjoyed what we wrote.
idk but hearing you say you stopped commenting simply because you never get a reply back left a really bitter taste in my mouth. maybe the person behind the fic is out of spoons, maybe they simply forgot to reply, maybe they're keeping your comment in their inbox and stare at it lovingly because it gives them fuel for the entire week. the reasons for it are endless. not getting a reply to your comment doesn't mean the writer is ungrateful. it's just a really shitty thing of you to say.
i'm gonna keep commenting on my fav fics because it makes me happy that i get to show my gratitude. it's a little kindness that doesn't hurt anyone and honestly the energy you spent on sending this ask could have been used to do the very same, but oh well.
So, from my understanding, writers shouldn't reply to comments on their own fics because we're just "adding to our notes", but we should also reply to every comment we get, or we're seen as ungrateful. We should be writing for ourselves, not for engagement, but if we keep our creations to ourselves, ya'll get upset that we're not posting new content. Do I have that about right?
wasup @fairyvearths ! im your pitch hitter for the @onepiece-blorboexchange thank you for patiently waiting <3

_____________________________________
It was a freezing winter day, the rain showered any and all who dared to walk without an umbrella, pelting everyone with bullet like droplets and drenching their outfits.
You managed to minimize the damage when you saw the dark clouds heading your way an hour ago, quickly walking towards the nearest library. You were a little irritated as of all the days for a harsh rainstorm to hit your city, it had to be the day you decided to walk instead of drive, equipped with nothing but a flimsy umbrella. The forecast predicted the heavy rainstorm sometime later this week, you knew this well before hand but you didnât think it would arrive so quickly or at least at this hour.
Now the issue wasnât about your clothes getting wet, the issue was how you were going to safely get home? The ominous pitter patter coming from the ceiling above you constantly reminded you of that future problem, reminding you of all the bad choices youâve made so far today.
You decided to put a hold on the issue and drew your focus back to the task before you: you wanted to find a book that described the history of gang violence in your city. Why? Maybe it was because of how movies romanticized the gang life or maybe it was because you always wondered what it would have been like to be a criminal? You always were fascinated by criminal cases and the psychology behind it too so that mightâve been another factor.Â
What really drew your interest was one particular gang, an infamous gang that once terrorized the streets of your city decades ago: the Roger Pirates. And lo and behold, you found a book that covered the topic of this crew and their history.
The leader, Gol Roger, was notorious for bringing lots of prosperity the community but also for driving away other gangs from his territory. He was known for many things and was seen as a controversial figure in your city; some criticized his methods and use of violence while others praised him for keeping the community safe from outside powers and police corruption.
However, after some back and forth with the police, he was eventually caught and was given the death sentence almost immediately but not before announcing a hidden âtreasureâ he had left behind in his wake.Â
Unfortunately for the police, this act only further enticed everyone else to find that lost âtreasureâ that Roger had hidden away, bringing about the creation of small time gangs that riddled the streets you lived on to this day. Perhaps Rogerâs legendary tale and the possibility of finding this so called âOne Pieceâ drew you to these things.
You shuffled through the pages when suddenly a voice yanked you out of your bubble.
âYou know who those guys are Y/N?â said a deep voice beside you. You nearly jumped out of your skin. How did you not hear someone walk up behind you? You were so caught up in your daydreams to not notice the figure.
You turned around, looking up to find an elderly man smiling down on you; you felt relieved as you recognized this man, this was the same man who frequented this section of the library as much as you. You two knew of each other and would often greet and wave at the other whenever you two crossed paths.Â
His white hair strands were lightly coated with water droplets, he mustâve entered the library fairly recently you thought. He wore a thick navy blue coat with beige faux fur on the inside. Beside the expensive looking jacket, he had on him a pair of name brand circle rimmed glasses, from what you gathered from past conversations, this man seemed pretty wealthy, probably that retirement money.
âIâŠuhâŠâ You stammered. âI have an idea of who they areâ. You werenât sure why you felt so shy all of a sudden, itâs not like you two were complete strangers but this was the first time you two have spoken outside of pleasantries; you were maybe worried of what he would say upon finding out about the dark content you were reading. Youâd never admit it publicly but you did find this gentleman attractive as well; he seemed to be in really good shape for someone his age.Â
The older man took notice of this internal panic of yours and chuckled, attempting to dispel the tension in the air.Â
âI didnât mean to scare you, my apologies. Are you studying for a class? Iâve seen you around here oftenâ.Â
The familiarity made you feel a little better, and even then, he didnât come across as someone to be wary of, he just seemed like a sweet old man.Â
âOh! Not really, I find this sort of thing interesting.â
âOh really?â He scanned the page you were on and his eyes lit up.
He quickly pointed to a photograph in the book you held, a black and white photograph of a group of young men running from something or someone out of view, probably the police.Â
The old man smiled, âHey thatâs me!â.
âYeah right!â you giggled.
âNo really! You donât see it?â The gentleman paused. âWell I guess you canât really tell from this angle, those cops were never the best photographers.â He chuckled, âMind I see the book?â
âSure.â you replied, passing the book to him. He flipped through the pages of the book, scanning its contents and finally stopping on one specific page. He looked at you with gleaming eyes and a giddy smile, âCan I show you something?âÂ
You rolled your eyes; whatever this old man had to show you was probably going to be a mugshot of some young fella and he was gonna make another joke about it being him when he was younger. You still decided to entertain his shenanigans nonetheless as you didnât see the harm in it. He was just another playful old man.
âYeah why not? Sureâ. you said as you shrugged your shoulders.
âOk but you have to promise me youâll be quiet, understand?â He whispered, tapping his lips with this index finger to emphasize his point.
âYes yes yes I understand.â You responded back in a hushed, whimsical tone.
The older gentleman looked around and over his shoulders first, making sure no one beside them were around. He passed you the book with his thumb on the page, bookmarking it until it was securely placed in your hands. You put your thumb on the page in place of his, you had to admit you respected him more for not folding the corner of the page to save his place. Unbuttoning his coat, he let it fall on the ground, you raised an eyebrow at his behavior but didnât speak out, you figured this was just some set up for a joke or punchline.
The old man was wearing a tucked in, button up long sleeve shirt and began to undo the buttons on his arm, your smiled disappeared as you gasped: inked into the his arm were the words âDark Kingâ in the same font as the Rogers pirates gang logo with a small skull and crossbones on his wrist. He smiled, only this time, his smile seemed laced with a mischievous and almost guilty energy.
Your eyes scanned his tattoo and back down to the book. The page he bookmarked was another photograph with the members of the Roger Pirates gang lined up and posing for the photo and had the older man not saved this page and shown you his arm, you would have missed him in the background, standing tall and proud, surrounded by his crew, his tattoo clearly shown. The second in command, right hand man of the infamous Pirate King Roger, Silvers Reyleigh was standing before you, chuckling at your bewilderment.
Your jaw wanted to drop at this revelation but you needed to remain composed. You werenât so much as scared but more along the lines of intrigued and captivated at this new information.
You started slowly, âSo⊠you werenât joking about the guy running in the other photo? That was you?â
Reyleigh laughed, âOh you thought I was joking? Youâre so cute.â You could only blush at his teasing, your face becoming adamantly red. âIs there anything you want to know?â He slowly started rolling down his sleeve and fixing his attire.
Your head was spinning, wondering why Dark King Reyleigh just revealed himself to you of all people? You needed answers first, who you thought was a sweet older gentleman turned out to be one of the cityâs former terrors. âWhy are you telling me these things?â your voice was shaking slightly.
He let out a little grunt as he picked his coat off the floor, swinging it over his shoulder as he faced your direction.Â
âBecause I like you.â He smirked, the edges of his grin grew at the sight of your embarrassment. The way he didnât hesitate and flat out give you his earnest feeling was heartwarming in a weird way.Â
âWellâŠâ You coughed. âIf itâs alright, could⊠May I ask you a few questions sir?â Your stance stiffened as you felt you were obligated to respect him, not only as your elder but as a retired gangster.Â
Since you dared not look directly into his eyes, you didnât see Reyleigh's smile turn somber but you could hear it in his tone.
âCome on now, you donât have to be so formal with me, just talk to me the way you did before.â He patted your back, âHow about we get some hot drinks and Iâll tell you more? Itâs my treat.â
âAh.. Right.â You spoke. You didnât say it out loud but you sort of figured that discussing criminal activities in a government facility like the library was a terrible idea, Reyleigh was trying to take private matters to a more private location, reducing the risk of being overheard by the wrong person.
As you two made your way out of the library, you had to stop all the questions rushing through your head and bring forth the most obvious one: was this man to be trusted?
Yes you met him in a library more than once before, yes you never once felt like you were in any danger around him, and yes he never seemed to stick his nose in anyone elseâs business but his own, minus today. But then again, looks can be deceiving.
Reyleigh stopped at the library entrance and turned to face you, swiftly removing his coat and wrapping you with it instead. You tried to refuse the gesture but it was already too late.Â
âReyleigh you donât have t-â
âNonsense, I canât have you walking in the rain like that. Iâll borrow your umbrella if that will make you feel better!â He chirped. Despite your protest, you couldnât help but smile at his words and actions.
Reyleigh led you to his car, putting his arm around you as he held the umbrella, bringing you two closer. Something about Reyleigh put you at ease, whether it was the fact he was your tiny library crush or the fact that he was a former gangster, you couldnât tell. Your mind and your heart couldnât have been more opposite than at this moment.
You hopped into his old car as soon as Reyleigh opened the passenger door for you, closing it firmly. As he made his way around to the driverâs side, you made mental notes of the interior, immediately noticing the impeccable condition of the car despite its age, it truly passed the test of time as you could only conclude that Reyleigh took really good care of the car, keeping up with maintenance and what not.
Reyleigh stepped into the driver's side and started up the engine. He turned to look at you with a sheepish smile on his face.
âWe have to wait a while, this old thing takes a few minutes to warm up.â He said, leaning forward to turn down the radio and turn up the heater.
The cabin of the car was silent for a few moments until you spoke up, needing an answer to the most pressing question you had.Â
âWhy did you start talking to me today?â you asked. âI think thereâs more to it than what you said earlier.â
His face became serious as he pondered on how to approach your question, Reyleigh rested his hand on his chin before finally coming up with a response.
âItâs simple, I like you.â he chuckled. âNow hereâs a question for you: do you think most people would get into a car with a criminal?âÂ
âNopeâ you answered.
âExactly. I like people like you, youâre open minded and youâre not afraid of being honest. You were one of the few people who treated me with kindness even after I showed you who I was.â he paused, taking in a deep breath. âMost people who recognize me would treat me like dirt and worse even after all these years passed by. Sometimes I still have to watch my back to make sure someone from a rival gang doesnât spot me. Itâs not a clean or easy life. You know all this but yet, you still saw the humanity in people like meâ.
You sat there looking at him, both in awe and with red hues darkening your face at one of the most sincere compliments youâve ever received. It almost felt undeserved.
âI justâŠâ you started. âI donât see the point in treating criminals like trash. In your guys' case, I feel like you and Roger did more for our city than what the police could ever hope to do.â
You turned to face Reyleigh, staring deep into his eyes as you uttered your next statement.Â
âIf anything, I always felt like the cops were a gang of their own.â
The two of you sat in silence, listening to the pitter patter of the rain showering the car. Reyleigh put the car in first gear and started to drive off.
âYou see it that way too huh?⊠Do you want to know why I visit the library so often?â
It hadnât occurred to you until he mentioned it but now your interest was piqued.Â
âWhy is that?â
âWell⊠since my friend was given the death penalty, he doesnât exactly have a grave, or at least one that I can legally visitâŠâ
âI seeâŠâ
âRoger didnât have any family that would visit his grave or that I knew of besides his son, but their relationship has always been⊠strained.â
âRoger had a son? Wait⊠I⊠A son?!â You had your hands running through your hair, completely baffled by this news. You never once thought Roger the pirate king fucked but it seemed so obvious and silly to think of now. Like of course he did, he was the biggest and baddest gangster in his prime.Â
âOh! You didnât know?â Reyleigh glanced at you as he drove. âWell Iâm not surprised they donât mention it in the books. Last I heard, that kid is part of a rival gang of his fatherâs, hanging out with the young bloods doing who knows-what nowadays. Besides that, I donât know much more. Heâs probably around your age or at least part of your generation.â
You mentally shook your head and returned your attention back to Reyleigh, you were going to put Rogerâs son on hold.
âSo why do you come to the library again?â
âAh yes! I almost forgot. You said the police are like a gang of their own so Iâm sure you can see why I canât visit my friend, itâd be trespassing since I'm not an immediate family member. As much as I dislike those pigs, I really rather stay on the low and avoid any more trouble.â
âWhy? Are you still wanted or something?â You joked.
The car stopped at that one red light that took way too long to turn green, Reyleigh suddenly made a right, flipped a bitch, and then made a right, scaring you half to death from how fast he was driving, almost like he could predict what would happen next.
âWhat do you think?â He smirked at you, relishing in your shocked expression that reminded him of a scared cat.
âAlright I see your point.â you sighed in exasperation.
Reyleigh continued, âVisiting the library and seeing his face and all my old crew like that is really the only way I can mourn if I can be honest.â He laughed quietly. âYou might not believe it, coming from a hard gangster like me, but I used to cry in this car every time after I had visited the library. Today is the first time in a while that I havenât and itâs thanks to you. For once, I left the library on a good note.â He pulled over to the side and parked the car, smiling as he looked over to you blushing madly.Â
âAre you falling for me Y/N?â His eyebrow raised up comically, clearly enjoying the sight he was seeing. âMy my this is only our first date dear.â
âOur first d-?â You put your face in your hands, attempting to hide your embarrassment.Â
âHey I did say I like you, is it really that much of a surprise?â
You opened up a finger to let your eye peep through, looking back at Reyleigh.
âWell no I just thought⊠you were already with⊠someone⊠soâŠâ
Reyleigh paused for a bit before responding. âI see. Tell you what, next time weâre going to my place and Iâll introduce you to my wife. Youâll love her!â
âSo you are married then!â You exclaimed.
âDonât worry, Iâm sure you two will like each other too! Iâve already told her how cute you are before.â
You let out a small groan, just how did everything fall into place like this? Your only plans for today were to visit the library and go home to lounge about. Now suddenly your library crush is flirting with you in his car and seems to be in an open marriage, a thought that made you flushed with all the naughty mental imagery that flooded your mind. Oh and he was/is a retired gangster too.
He patted your back and caressed it afterwards. âHey donât worry about it, letâs just go get our coffee and talk!â He said with an obvious jovial tone. It was really wholesome to see a man like Reyleigh be so happy to have a hot drink with someone who accepted him completely.
I hope you enjoyed! Sorry to hear that you didn't receive your gift on time but I hope this was worth the wait! ^^ I tried to end things off on a good note for both reader and Reyleigh
ohhhhh, i love this sm thank youuu. the way this feeds into my romantic delusions, like, yes, we greet each other in passing, and we are parallel playing, so, of course, we'll fall in love with each otherÂ

You donât mind being saddled with looking after Luffy and Zoroâpresenting no fight when Nami lists out the groups.
She gives you an apologetic grimace but you wave away her concerns; itâs easy to dismiss her worries when Luffy smiles at you, eyes closed, cheeks squishing as his lips stretch wide.
Your heart does a funny little flip flop, and you manage a grin back at him, trying to ignore the fluttering in your throat. You hold his gaze for another half second before you look awayâcheeks dangerously warm. As you turn your head, you catch Zoroâs eye, flickering your attention to him when you see him watching you.
You try not to grimace, knowing how he gets when Sanji or UsoppâHell, even some of the other captains youâve met along the wayâare a little too affectionate with Luffy for Zoroâs comfort. You back a step away from Luffy, refocusing on Nami as she organises the last of the crew.
She announces budgets and shopping lists before handing out pouches of Beli. When she gets to your team, she sighs softly. She spares a glance at the others, lips thinning into a straight line. She looks, for all intents and purposes, like sheâs fighting a losing war in her mind. Nami passes the bag to you. âDonât⊠let them buy things, okay?â she whispers.
With what you hope is a reassuring smile, you swipe the pouch. âYou can trust me.â
She looks anything but reassured. âI donât.â
You wink. âThatâs the spirit!â
She blinks, glances at the others shouldering on their bags, preparing to depart. âThis was a mistake,â she laments to herself. âMaybe I should reshuffle the groups.â
âNo!â
Luffyâs yell carries over the ship.
You have a second to react, turning to him to see whatâs going on before something firm collides into your body, warmth wounding tightly around your middle.
A breath escapes you and youâre tilting backwards, the unexpected weight shifting your centre of gravity.
A hand on your back steadies you, another on your arm to pull you back upright. You can feel the heat even through the shirt youâre wearing.
âOi.â Zoroâs gruff voice comes from beside you, and it takes his intonation for you to realise that Luffy had been the one to crash onto you.
Luffy has his legs coiled around your waist, armâs curled snake-like over and under yours.
Zoro admonishes him, letting go of your arm now that youâre standing upright again. He swats the back of his hand on Luffyâs arm. âCareful.â
âKeep the group!â Luffy implores Nami. âI like it like this.â
You pretend that that doesnât fill you with a cloud of warmth. That it doesnât feel like the sun is shining directly on you. You back up a step in an attempt to get away from the rising feelings in this conversation, but you belatedly realise you canât; Luffy is on you, Zoro has a bracing hand against your back. Youâre quite literally trapped here.
Nami throws a look around the small group before landing on you, something in her face that you canât quite place. She grins, light of mischief dancing behind her eyes. âOkay,â she relents, in that tone you know means that there wasnât that much of a fight to begin with. âIâll keep the group.â
Luffy giggles, something light that bubbles out onto your shoulder and his limbs tighten around your body. The hand on your back gets heavier.
Uh oh.
Zoroâs getting angry.
Heâs gonna take it out on you.
âOkay,â you say, keeping your voice purposefully light and devoid of the awkwardness you feel in this situation. âYouâre getting heavy, Luffy.â You donât give him a choice, shifting your weight to steady yourself before grabbing his thighs to pull him from you.
âI said, be careful.â Zoro digs his hand a little harsher, pushing you upright.
Luffy wriggles out of your grasp, climbing you like some sort of snake.
The change in weight unbalances you and you careen towards the deck, back first.
Thereâs yells, coming from you, Zoro and Luffy and you hit something firm, the air crushing out of you as you land.
âYou fucking gremlin,â Zoro breathes, voice strained. Itâs only because his chest is reverberating against your upper back do you realise that youâve fallen on him.
Oh.
Oh, shit.
You try to get off him, but Luffy is resting his weight atop you.Â
Heâs laughing, like it really doesnât concern him at all that heâs still clinging onto you, half fallen into your lap while youâre on top of his boyfriend.
âOkay.â
You crane your neck to look up at Nami, whoâd been the one to speak.
She blinks down on the three of you, looking very much like sheâs trying to hide a smile. âYou guysâŠâ She chuckles. âDo your thing, Iâm gonna.â Not even bothering to finish her sentence, she turns, walking away to the group that sheâs organised for herself.
âHey.â Zoro places a gentle hand on your side to grab your attention and you whip your head to face him at the touch. âYou okay?â
Your heart stutters in your chest; his hand is resting on the side of your ribcage. His gaze, always magnetising and heavy, feels even more so with his face literal inches from yours. Your mouth is drying, your throat sticks to itself.
Has he always been this pretty? Handsome, yes, that is a relatively objective fact about him. But pretty? Itâs his eye that draws you in; a cool shade of grey that has, at times, looked silver under different lighting. He blinks down at you, lips parting, probably to speak again.
But youâre staring at his mouth, heart roaring deafeningly in your head so you donât really hear what he has to say, if anything. You donât remember moving, but your face is getting closer to his. Close enough that you can feel his breath on your cheek, andâ
Nope.
You pull away, heat rising up from your chest, flushing across your neck. What the fuck?
(So caught up in your own thoughts, you miss how Zoroâs hand falls away, fingers curling into a loose fist by his knee. You miss how he shoots a quick glance at Luffy, both their faces pinching in disappointment. And, most importantly, you miss that you werenât the one moving at allâZoro had leant into your space.)
Okay.
Youâre crushing on your two best friends, who are in a relationship with each other. Big whoop, thatâs not news to you. Youâre usually much more inconspicuous than thisâfucking relax.
Your heart drops into your stomach when you realise that Luffy is staring at the two of you, expression unreadable.
âWe should get going,â you throw out into the air. âBefore the shops close.â
Zoro hums, a short noise that you canât quite read.
âYou didnât answer his question,â Luffy says. He leans forward, a little pout on his lips.Â
You back away, jerking lightly when you bump into Zoroâs shoulder. You find some weird middle ground, holding yourself awkwardly so youâre equally distant from them both. âWhat?â
âWe fell,â Luffy reiterates. âZoro asked if you were okay.â
âUm.â You take stock of yourself; yes, youâve been jarred around slightly, but, all things considered, youâre surprisingly unharmed. If you forget about the tightness in your chest, and your heart hammering away, the only thing of note is that Luffy is a pressing weight on you, but that can be easily fixed. âIâm fine.â
âYouâre lying,â Luffy says, blunt.
âWhat?â
He blinks at you, expectant.
âHe means, you donât seem fine,â Zoro pipes up from behind.
Shit.
Fuck that Captainâs Intuition.
âUh.â You swallow a wave of panic. âI wasnât hurt in the fall,â you try instead.
Luffy stares at you for a second longer before nodding, satisfied. He climbs off you, arms already stretching to grab onto the shipâs bannister and slingshot him onto the island, smile splitting his cheeks, a yell of adventure on his lips
âIâŠâ You sigh, defeated. âWe were supposed to stick as a group.â
âWeâll catch up,â Zoro muses. Heâs already stood up and he reaches down, offering you a hand. âCâmon.â
You take it, gingerly, trying not to think too much about his hand in yours. Itâs normal, you tell yourself. People help each other off the floor all the time. Donât think too much about it. âYeah,â you say, because talking always made it easier to keep your mind off of things. âbut Nami probably put me with you two to keep you both on a leash.â
Zoro smirks as he pulls you up. âYou think you can tame me?â he asks, voice dangerously low. His grip on your hand tightens and your heart squeezes with it.
You think you forget how to breathe, frozen in a stupor.
When you donât react, Zoro releases your fingers, turning around so you donât see the grin fighting its way on his face. âLetâs go,â he says as he begins walking.
You blink after him, once.
Twice.
The fluttering in your chest settles onto your sternum. Wait, hang on. âYou donât know where youâre going!â That thought sobers you up enough to bound over to him. âMaybe itâs better if I lead.â
Zoro furrows his brows as he shoots you a glance out of his periphery. âWhat do you mean?â
âItâs justâŠâ Youâre trying to find a way to phrase your words without offending him. âYouâWhere do you think the market is?â you try instead.
He shrugs, shoulders hunching up to his neck. âDoesnât really matter, does it?â
âMeaning?â
âWe find Luffy,â he says. âHe always gets us where we need to be.â
Your steps falter, watching Zoro as he continues walking across the deck like what he said wasnât out of the norm for him.
Roronoa Zoroâa sap?
Honestly?
Kinda cute.
No sooner does the thought enter your mind do you dismiss it quickly. Stop that, stop it.
Itâs supposed to be an uneventful supply run.
In-and-out. Quick. Efficient.
That was the plan. Or, at least, Namiâs plan. Â
You should have known that none of those words would be in Luffyâs or Zoroâs vocabulary.
And Nami shouldâve known it wouldnât be in yours either. Honestly, what was she thinking, putting you with them? Thereâs no way you wouldâve babysat them. At times, it feels like you enabled them, more so than anything, butâ
You know what, actually?
No, no.
You arenât taking the blame today. And youâre not blaming Luffy or Zoro either. None of this was any of your faults.
Because who, in their right minds, would have predicted that this small island would have a Marine Festival?
âWhat the fuckâs a Marine Festival?â Nami hisses, through the Baby Den Den Mushi.
âExactly!â You force your voice into a whisper, glancing to your right, outside the edge of the wall.
No one is looking.
âA shit ton of Marines are marching through town,â you inform her, âand weâre, kinda, maybe stuck in an alley.â The way the houses are laid out means the gap between the buildings progressively grows smaller the further in you go. And at the sole entrance of the alley, are all the Marines on the island, apparently. Slowly walking like some parade.
Music, cheers, and confetti, included.
Nami sighs, exasperation lacing the breath of air. You can see the exhaustion lining her brows on the transponder snail. âAt leastâPlease tell me youâre still with Luffy and Zoro, though?â
âYeah.â Unfortunately.
In your initial panic after seeing the Marines, youâd pulled Zoro into the closest hiding place. You then grabbed Luffy and yanked him in with you.
Zoro had shuffled into the space, until he could barely wedge himself further, shoulders too wide to go any deeper. Which is good, you tell yourself, because the only way out is the only way in, and youâre standing right there.
And youâve kept Luffy directly in front of you, giving you the opportunity to stop him before he runs out into the townâor worse; go deeper into the alley because his bodily rubber properties would allow him to.
God forbid either of them be left unchecked with Marines.
In your, more hopeful, infancy of ten minutes ago, youâd waited for the Marines to scatter. But they kept marching, and marching, and, so, you called Nami to tell her the news.
âI justâWhy canât we chaos our way out of here?â you lament; the prospect of being stuck in the cramped passage for any longer than you already have doesnât sit well with you.
Luffy perks up, eyes illuminating with a gleam that you can see, even with the dim lighting. Zoro leans in closer, arm flush with yours.
You pretend not to notice and focus all your attention on the Den Den Mushi in your palm.
âBecause we need to wait for the Log Pose to calibrate.âÂ
Your lips press into a thin line, unimpressed. âHow longâs that gonna take?â
âHoursââ
You roll your eyes, displeasure roving through your features.
âDonât roll your eyes at meââ
Oh, shit.
She can see your expressions, too.Â
âWaitâno, no-no,â you clamour to your own defence. âI wasnât rolling my eyes at you, it was at the situation.â
The snail is silent, looking very indifferent.
âNami,â you whine, âI promise.â
âUh-huh,â she finally says, sceptical.Â
âNamiââ
âJust lay low until the Log Pose resets, okay?â
âOkay,â you say, and then to make up for the eye-roll, you add, âLove you.â
Without missing a beat, Nami responds, âThatâs fifty Beli for loving me.â
You splutter. âHello?â
She hums. âIf you canât afford to pay, you canât afford to love me.â
âYeah, alright.â You chuckle, grinning at her antics. âYou ainât worth it, anyways.â
Nami yellsâthe beginning of her tirade spilling through the Baby Den Den Mushi.
You jump, hand over the snailâs mouth to muffle it before you hang up on her. âWhat the Hell,â you breathe, turning your attention to the entrance of the alleyway.
The Marines keep marching.
âScale of one to ten,â you say, lightly, âhow badly do you think sheâll beat my ass when we get back?â
Luffy makes a sound like heâs thinking. âFour.â
âJust four?â Surely itâd be higher than thatâitâs Nami.
âSheâll try on a seven,â Luffy elaborates, âbut youâre strong, so four.â
You blink at him, a blush beginning to creep up your neck that you hope they donât see. âYou think Iâm strong?â
Luffy beams, cheeks stretching. âYep!â
Oh. You look away, breath stuttering in your chest. Your fingers twitch as you try to find something to do so youâre not forced to stare at him. Belatedly, you realise youâre still holding the communication device. You try to open your bag, but your left arm bumps into Zoro where heâs still leaning against you.
Heâd been so quiet, presence strangely comfortable and safe, that youâd forgotten to register he was there.
âUh.â You turn to face him, but he seems unfazed by your accidental touch. âSorry,â you mumble.
He dismisses your apology with a grunt.
When he doesnât offer anything else, you clear your throat. âCan you possibly move back a bit? I need to get to my bag.â
âCanât,â Zoro says. ââS too narrow.â
âAh. Wellââ
âHere.â He takes the snail from your hand, hand brushing against your own fingers and you try not to let your breathing change too much. He attempts to undo the clasp on your bag with one hand, but he struggles. âLuffy,â he finally says after giving up.
Without hesitance, Luffy leans over and fiddles with it. His knuckles scrape against the fabric of your shirt as he works.
Your heart flutters into your throat until all you hear is your own heartbeat thudding away in your ears. You hold your breath, afraid that if you did try to breathe, your lungs would stutter and youâd give yourself away.
Luffy holds the flap against your waist and Zoro places the Den Den Mushi inside.
You stare at the bag, watching their hands move so you donât have to look at their faces and fluster yourself even more.
Once inside, Luffy releases the flap so it falls back into place and Zoro buckles up the clasp again. Neither of them move back to their original position, crowding into your space even though they have no reason to be.
Or, maybe, theyâre just trying to get closer to each other.
That would make more sense.Â
You should move out of their way.
You slide over to the right, closer towards the exit but your shoe trips over something.
Luffy yelps.
You flail for balance.
Luffy steadies himself on the wall next to you, and you fall on his outstretched arm instead of the floor, and Zoro grabs you both by the elbow.
âThe Hell are you two doing?â he barks, tugging lightly to pull you upright before letting go. He sinks his back on the roughened bricks.
âSorryâIâm sorry!â Judging by Luffyâs earlier exclamation, you realised you kicked his foot.
âWhat were you up to?â Luffy asks, head tilting in puzzlement. He doesnât remove his arm from beside you and if you were to sidestep to get further away from his limb, youâd only be crowding into Zoroâs space.
âI was trying to get out of your way,â you answer honestly, âlet you two be closer, or something.â
Luffyâs lip downturns. âYou donât want to be closer?â
You blink. Then, âBit weird, is all.â Youâre trying not to read too much into his words; take him at face value, donât assume his intentions.
âWhatâs weird about you being closer?â Luffy leans forwardâtrying to prove his point, or out of interest, youâre not sure.
Regardless, you inch away, back of hitting the wall. Your shoulders brush against Zoroâs. You spare a glance at him, but he only watches, face impassive. You let out a small breath, once again cursing the small enclosement youâre trapped in. âI donâtâThis isââ Your voice is getting smaller and smaller.
âRelax,â Zoro says.
âI am relaxed,â you fire back.
He makes a sceptical noise.Â
With how close he is to you, it wouldnât take that much effort to elbow him in the ribs, so you take advantage of that and do so, earning a grunt. âFuck off.â
As you settle back against the wall, you realise; youâre calmer. Less nervous than you had been before.
Son of a bitch.
Youâre barely able to hide the smile that rises to your lips; somehow, Zoro grew to know you. But heâs rightâif youâre going to be stuck here for the next hour or so, you shouldnât be so tense about it. âYou guys donât have claustrophobia, do you?â you inquire, suddenly realising that this wouldnât be an ideal situation if they did.Â
âWhatâs claustrophobia?â Luffyâs nose scrunches in confusion.
Zoro shuffles, like heâs shrugging. âAfraid of Santa Claus.â
A laugh startles out of you at the answer and you cover your mouth to muffle yourself.
âOh,â Luffy says, sincere. âNo.â
You shake your head. âThatâs not what it means,â you manage to say in between giggles.
âWhat do you mean?â Zoro presses, the same time Luffy asks, âWhatâs so funny?â
âWait.â Newfound chuckles linger in your throat and you turn your head to face Zoro. âIs thatâDo you really think thatâs what that means?â
Zoro blinks at you, lips pressing into a thin line. âWellâI donât anymore.â
âNo-no,â you beg, grabbing his arm. âIâm not making fun of you.â
âYa-huh.â Zoro is doubtful, and you donât blame him because youâre still laughing. âCan definitely feel youâre not.â
âZoroââÂ
âWhat does it mean, then?â Luffy implores, leaning into your space.Â
You smile at him, quick huff of breath escaping your nostrils. âAfraid of small spaces.â
âAh.â Luffy nods. âSo, Zoro was stupid.â
âShut up!â Zoro hisses, leaning across you to smack Luffyâs arm.
You canât help but laugh at their antics, chest tightening as your breath sticks in your chest because youâre not taking in enough air. You try to be quiet about it, not wanting to alert the Marines.
âYou didnât even know what it meant,â Zoro snaps.Â
âBut I didnât get it wrong!â Luffy fires back. âHey.â He batters your arm to get your attention. âZoroâs stupid, right?âÂ
âOi!âÂ
You try to stifle your laughs, but to no avail. You shake your head, making a cutthroat motion with your hand to let them know you canât be a part of this conversation.Â
It takes another couple minutes for you to collect yourself, especially when Zoro and Luffy start to silently wrestle with each other, doing more harm to themselves when they crash their own elbows and knees into the walls instead of each other.Â
âI have another question,â Luffy pipes when youâre taking a final, big breath.Â
âUh-huh?â you croak, wiping the tears from your eyes.Â
âWhoâs Santa Claus?âÂ
As it turns out, the Log Pose needed three hours before it recalibrated to the next island. When Namiâs call comes through, you canât rush out of the alley quick enough. The restlessness of being trapped for so long resulted in absolute chaos as soon as the three of you were spotted by the Marines.
Itâs not like you guys were trying to be found.
ButâŠ
Itâs not like you were trying to be subtle about your presence, either.
Needless to say, the number of injured Marines who were there before you arrived, compared to the number after was⊠drastically different.
Youâre stretching out in the sun, enjoying the warm rays youâre able to catch, now that you arenât in a dark alley filled with cold bricks. After telling Sanji you hadnât had breakfast, and then later werenât able to buy anything during lunch âfor the sake of the crew,â heâd whipped up something quick and somewhat light, so youâd still have room for dinner in a couple hours. Youâd finish the last bite ages ago, but the sun feels too nice to leave, so your empty plate sits on the table.Â
A shadow falls over you and you open your eyes, brows raising as Zoro rattles a plate onto the table. He pushes the first plate to the side before placing another next to it.
Luffy comes bounding over with empty bowls and spoons.
âYou guys hungry too?â you yawn.
Zoro huffs in amusement. âWhen isnât he?â
You chuckle. Then, after noticing how theyâre more relatively cleaned up than usual, you pry, âIs this something special?â
âA date,â Zoro says, blunt.
âAh.â You know a dismissal when you hear one. You stand, taking your plate to clear up more space for them. âAlright, Iâll get out of your way.â
In the distance, you hear a squeal before itâs muffled and a small crash. You turn to look at the level above, where youâre sure you heard the noise, but you donât see anyone or anything there. You narrow your eyes, turning back to Zoro and Luffy. âUh, have fun,â you say, departing for the kitchen.
(Zoro and Luffy watch you leave, eyes tracking as the door closes behind you. Luffy pouts, gaze forlornly drifting to the three bowls stacked on each other. Zoro groans, tilting his head back to the sky.
âHow can someone be so stupid?â he muses.
Usopp tears Namiâs hand from his mouth and they jump out from their hiding spots, vaulting over the railing to join their Captain and first mate on the lower deck.
âWhat was that?â Nami hisses.
âHey, keep it down,â Zoro grouses.
âWhat did you guys say?â Usopp accuses.
âNothing!â Luffy protests. âZoro said it was a date, and thenââ He gestures towards the kitchen where youâve disappeared into.
Nami stares at the both of them, their brows furrowing as they sit in their misery; Zoro on the beach chair youâd just vacated, and Luffy on the ground. Patient as a saint, she pulls in a deep breath. âDid you say it was a three person date?â
Zoro sits up, as Luffy turns to look at him.
A beat.
Then.
âNo,â they both answer.
Usopp growls something that sounds more like squeal. âAre youâ?â
âKeep it down!â Zoro hisses, pulling the sniper to the ground before his voice can escalate any louder.
Usopp lands with a grunt, effectively silenced. âWhy are you both so stupid?â he bemoans.
âIt was Zoro!â Luffy defends himself.
âOi!â Zoro kicks at Luffyâs leg.
âLord have mercy,â Nami sighs.)
Sanji looks up, wide eyes blinking owlishly when he sees you. âUhâŠâ He pauses in cutting the onion. âWhy are you here?â
You throw a thumb over your shoulder, back out to the deck. âZoro and Luffy are having a date.â
âUh-huh?â he responds slowly.
âThey set up at my tableâI mean, I donât know why âcos thereâs like, two other tables out there, but, yâknow.â You shrug, trying to be nonchalant, but youâre too annoyed; they didnât have to kick you out so rudely.
It hurts a little, you have to admit to yourself. Especially after hanging out with them in the alley. It wasnât an ideal situation, but it wasnât the worst, either. You had fun together, or so you thought.
âWait, so whatâd they say?â Sanji asks. âExactly?â
You furrow your brows, heading to the sink to wash your plate. âThat it was a date.â
âAnd that was it?â
âYeah.â You rinse the soap off and place it on the dish rack.
âAnd they didnât ask you anything.â
âUh.â You wipe your hands on a towel, heading back to the counter. âNo. What would they ask?â
Sanji looks about this close to bursting out in laughter.
âWhat?â you implore, thrown off by his expression.
He shakes his head, bowing his head to resume the prep work for dinner. âNothing,â he sings, mirth underlying his tone. âWhat a bunch of priceless idiots.â
âWhat does that mean?â
âNothing,â he repeats.
âSanjiââ
âYou gonna stay to help?â He tries to redirect your attention, easily grabbing a knife from the wooden block set and placing it on the counter, handle to you.
You huff. âNot if youâre hiding stuff from me.â
âIâm not hidingââ At your pointed look, he shrugs. âOkay, maybe, yeah,â he relents. âBut, trust me,â he says beseechingly, âthis isnât something you want to hear from me.â
âYou know you're leaving me with more questions, right?â
He scrapes the minced onions into a mixing bowl. âI donât think I should say anything.â
The door opens at the end of his sentence and you peek over your shoulder, fully swivelling around in your chair when you see that itâs Luffy and Zoro. They enter the kitchen, letting the door shut behind them.
Itâs silent.
âWhatâs wrong?â you ask, trying to sound casual.
âWe werenât clear,â Luffy says.
âUh.â You look between the two of them, trying to figure out what conversation just got dropped into your lap. âAbout what?â
âNot in here,â Sanji begrudges.
âShut it, Cook,â Zoro snaps.
âYou are running out of favours, mosshead.â
âYou can shove yourââ
âZoro!â Luffy whacks his arm into Zoroâs stomach.
Zoro actually looks ashamed, clenching his teeth together.
Sanji sighs. âFine.â He takes off his apron and drapes it over a chair as he passes by. âDonât touch anything,â he warns.
Zoro and Luffy turn to watch him leave, waiting until the door swings shut before rounding back to you.
âI donât understand whatâs happening.â You decide to speak up first, laying out your level of awareness.
âThe date was supposed to be with you,â Luffy says.
You blink. âWhat?â
âThe dateâoutside; youâre supposed to be there too.â
âWhy?â
âBecause we want you there,â Zoro states.
âAnd you want to be there, too,â Luffy adds.
You purse your lips. âI donât want to third wheelâplus!â you yell when they open their mouths to interrupt you. âDates donât really include friends.â
âNot as a friend.â Luffy steps forward, stands in front of the chair youâre sitting on.
âWhat?â you ask, voice weak.
Luffy holds onto the chair on both sides of you, caging you against the counter and him. âNot as a friend,â he repeats. âWe want you there on the dateâas a date.â
You forget how to breathe, chest flooding with a tightness that almost hurts with every heartbeat. Itâs fast, your heart thud, thudding away in your ears.
They want to date you.
They want to date you, too.
Youâre not alone in your feelings for them.
âWe want you there,â Zoro had said. âAnd you want to be there, too,â Luffy had claimed.
He knew.
He knew.
Luffy says something, mouth opening in silent syllables that you donât hear above your own thoughts.
You should probably answer him, ask him to repeat. But you lean forward, clutching his vest in your fist to pull him in and meet you halfway in a kiss.
Luffy groans into your mouth, wrapping his arms around your waist as he kisses back, searing and desperate and filled with so much affection that your heart bubbles away under your tongue. Heâs almost leaning you back onto the counter with how much heâs pushing himself onto you.
When you part, he pulls you back upright onto the seat, breathing heavily. He laughs, pecks your lips again.
You smile in return at his joy.
You kissed him. You kissed Luffy, and he kissed you back.
Luffy looks over to the door and you follow suit.
Zoro is still standing at the entrance, watching.
You swallow thickly, disappointment swirling in your gut because you donât know what heâs feeling or thinking, but if it was something positive, heâd be more reactive, right? You pull your hands away from Luffy, clasping them in your lap. âYouâre okay with this?â you ask him, voice quiet.
âIâm okay with it.â You canât really pierce through his tone to know what heâs thinking.
âWhat about us?â you inquire. Zoro had become one of your best friends, and like Luffy, youâd developed a crush on him too. Youâd hate for your new relationship with Luffy to erode your previous friendship with Zoro because he got jealous.
âWhat about us?â
If there was ever a time to define a relationship, it would be now, right? âDo weâŠâ You clear your throat, shaking away the nerves.
Luffy slides a hand into yours, and, somehow, that gives you the courage you need.
âDo we get to kiss, too?â you question, hesitant.
Zoro tilts his head to the side. âIs that what you want?â
âIs that what you want?â you parrot back.
Zoro smirks. In seconds, he crosses the distance, hand cupping the side of your cheek.
Your heart flails wildly in your throat.
âYes,â he whispers, and he brings your lips to his. He kisses you just as hungrily and passionately as Luffy did, thumb sliding across your jaw.
Your heart jumps into your throat and you gasp in a breath, only for him to dig deeper, tongue flicking against yours. You moan, a quiet noise that he swallows into his chest.
Warm lips attach to your neck and you almost choke, squeal of surprise sticking in your throat.
Zoro chuckles into your mouth, humming as he breaks away from you, kissing softly behind your jaw.
Youâre panting softly, eyes rolling back as Luffy sucks on your skin. Your head feels cloudy, chest so full and light at the same time, heart beating so loudly youâre not sure how it hasnât exploded out of your ribcage.
This is real.
This is happening.
âSo, about that date,â you breathe, slotting your hand under Luffyâs jaw and lifting him off your neck.
âFuck the date,â Zoro growls into your ear. He nips your earlobe.
You barely have time to react to that before someone slides their hand on your thigh, boldly going up higher and higher until their fingers rest just below your crotch. You groan, inhaling a quick breath.
Luffy grins at your reaction and you know itâs his hand. âWhy donât we get out of here?â he suggests. âAnd make you make more noises?â
Oh, shit. Eyes widening, you nod vigorously. âYep, yeah.â
They pull away, Luffy sliding you off the chair before you all exit the kitchen together.
The cool air of the evening breeze washes over your hot skin. Usopp, Nami and Sanji are lounging around the now-deemed âdateâ table and they look over when the door opens.
âUp there,â Zoro says, nodding his head to the crowâs nest.
Luffy pulls you along with him with such urgency that Usopp straightens his back.
âWhatâs going on?â he asks.
Luffy doesnât respond, already climbing the ladder.
âUh,â you start, stumbling after him.
âDonât interrupt us,â Zoro suggests. âWe wanna be left alone.â
âOh,â Usopp says. Then, âNo! I didnât need to know that!â
âYou asked, dummy.â Zoro waits for you to get higher on the ladder before he starts to ascend.
âBecause I didnât know!â Usopp wails.
Luffy has already reached the landing. Rather than wait for you to complete the climb, he stretches down and wraps an arm around you, pulling you off the ladder.
You yelp, flailing as he pulls you up. âLuffy!â
âAlso,â Zoro continues, âyou might not want to be near here; weâre probably gonna be loud.â

What in the passive aggressive?
What do you hope to achieve when you post backhanded compliments like this? So much of that was unnecessaryâjust say you enjoyed it and move on. And unless youâre commissioning someone, you get no say in how much they write. Youâre literally getting stuff for free, and rather than be grateful for their time and effort, youâre being entitled. Keep your negativity to yourself. The audacity to come onto a writerâs blog and complain about other writers as though youâd find solidarity.

âHeeeeey, [First Name]! Are you listening?â
âHuh what? Sorry, can you repeat that again Luffy?â you asked with a small smile.
Luffy pouts at first, clearly upset that you werenât paying attention to whatever he was saying earlier. However, his pout was replaced with a wide smile before he motioned toward the plate in front of you. You had stopped eating midway, losing your appetite and Luffy seemed to be eyeing your food for quite a while. When you pushed the plate of food and told him about how you were already full, his face lit up almost instantly. He wasted no time pulling the plate closer and began eating whatever was left on your plate. You gazed at him with a soft smile, resting your face against the palm of your hand.
âHey, you need to stop spoiling him.â Zoro lightly hit your hand as he passed by the table you and Luffy were sitting at.
omg ??? this is so beyond cute and comforting. zoro and luffy being so loving and wholesome is doing my heart in wahhh thank you so much for writing this for me, i love it so much <3

Fine.
You kick him.
Zoro catches your ankle before you make contact with his leg. âOi,â he snaps.
You flail for balance, a squeal sticking in your throat as your centre of gravity tilts.
Zoro pulls you as you fall and you crash on your side.
âOw,â you say, mostly for show, because your arm had cushioned your landing and youâve been through much worse than this. Zoro knows it too.
âQuit being a baby,â he grouses, shifting himself up higher on the railing now that heâs officially awoken from his nap. âThe Hell were you thinking, trying to kick me?â
You roll onto your back. âYou were ignoring me.â
âI was trying to sleep.â
âBut you werenât, yet.â
âYeahâyet. I was getting there.â
âSo you just ignored me?â You bat your arm in his general direction. âWhat if it was an emergency?â
âIt wasnât.â
âYou donât care about me.â
âThe Hell?â
You giggle because he didnât say, âYeah, of course I donâtâ and thatâs a win if youâve ever encountered one. âYou donât,â you sigh, carpeting the floor with your faux misery. âI could die and you woulââ
âShut up.â Zoro actually jabs you in the arm with the hilt of one of his swords.
âHey!â
âYou didnât hit your head when you fell, right?â
You scoff, mirthful shock coating your words, âAre you calling me stupid?â
âNoâI mean, I made sure you didnât hit your head when you fell.â
It takes a while for his words to click in your brain, and when it doesâOh. You turn your head to look at him, cheek pressing into the hardwood floors. âWhy canât you just say you care about me like someone who isnât emotionally constipated?â
Zoro scowls, crossing his arms across his chest and looking away like heâs a four-year-old child throwing a tantrum. âIs this what you woke me up for?â he grumbles.
You want to keep ribbing him, but you understand that Zoro is being defensive, so you take his cue and reroute the conversation. âNo, actuallyâI wanted to ask you a favour.â
He turns back, scepticism raising his brows. âAbout Luffy?â
You open your mouth to ask how he knows, but you realise you had asked about your captain when you approached Zoro. âSo you did ignore me,â you gasp, slightly maybe a lot offended.
âYeah, of course I didâI was trying to sleep!â he shoots back.
Itâs your turn to cross your arms over your chest and cast your gaze to the sky. âI canât believe you.â
Zoro clicks his tongue before tapping your leg lightly with his foot. âWhatâd you need help with?â
âNah,â you push out with a breath, âI donât want your help anymore.â
âFine,â Zoro says, yawning. âGo somewhere elseâIâm trying to sleep.â
You slap his knee. âOi.â
âWhat do you need, then?â
âI wanna kiss Luffy.â
A beat. Then, âAnd youâre telling me, because?â
âBecause, Zoro,â you say, turning to face him again, âlast time I tried, you called his attention to a Sea King and ran off with him.â
Zoro snorts. âSo, go kiss him now.â He jerks his chin towards the deck where he, Usopp and Chopper are gathered. âHeâs not busy.â
âItâs not that simple,â you intone, stretching out your words. âI canât just do it out of nowhere, it has to be proper andââ
âOh, kill me now,â Zoro whispers in exasperation. He deflects another one of your attacks, knocking your hand out of its trajectory. âIf you wanted romantic, you shouldâve gone to the Cook.â
âBut heâs your best friend,â you reiterate. âYou know him better than anyone here.â
Zoro sighs, long-sufferingly. âHave you tried talking to him?â he asks, tired.
âNo?â Bewilderment laces your tone, falling in a heavy heap on the ground. âIâm not telling Luffy I want to kiss him.â
âWhy not?â
âBecause itâs weird; I canât just tell him, I just gotta do it.â
âThen do itâHeâs right there.â Once again, he gestures towards your captain, as if youâre not already hyperaware of his presence.
âNot like that,â you hiss.
âOh, my God,â Zoro grumbles. âStop being difficult.â
âIâm not! I just need to you to help meââ
âIâm trying! You keep dismissing my solutions. Itâs so easy, here, lookâLuffy!â
Your heart jumps into your throat as Zoro hollers, and you leap forward to cover his mouth. You misjudge the distance, punching him in the cheek instead.
âWhat the fuck?â Zoro rears his head back, slapping your hand away.
âShit, Iâm so sorryââ You retract your offending limb, covering your mouth in shock. âAre you okay?â
âYeah, didnât hurt,â he says, and you can tell heâs not just saying it to make you feel better. The manâs been through so much worse, and you both know it. âJust, what the fuck, though?â
âI didnât mean to,â you lament. âI justâYou yelled, and I was trying to stop you, but Iââ
âWhatâs up?â
You didnât scream.
You didnât.
You just, got startled. Because it was Luffy. And he came out of nowhere. And if Zoro or Luffy said you screamed⊠well.
They donât know what theyâre talking about.
You whip around, heart hammering in your throat because you were just talking about kissing Luffy, and now the man is here, squatting in front of you, and you donât know how much he may have overheard. âNothing!â Your voice comes out high and nervous.
âFuckingââ Zoro sighs, nudging you towards Luffy with his calf because in your scramble to shut Zoro up, youâd landed on his leg. âCan you just kiââ
Youâre more successful this time, shouting over the top of his words and slapping a hand to his mouth. âWhat the Hell is wrong with yâOw!â You wrench your hand away at a sharp sting on your palm. âDid you just bite me?â At Zoroâs deadpan stare, you furrow your brows. âWhat kinda feralâ?â
Behind you, Luffy laughs; so loud and carefree that your heart stutters in your chest.
You think you might pass out, but you turn to look at your captain because his joy is always a sight to behold.
âWow,â Zoro muses aloud, âyou are down baââ
You jerk your elbow into Zoroâs stomach, cutting off his words. âShut up!â you hiss.
âWhat were you guys talking about?â Luffy asks again when he settles down.
âNothing,â you repeat, voice calmer.
Zoro rolls his eyes. âReally?â
âExcept for the fact that Zoro is being a butthead,â you say pointedly.
âButthead?â the butthead echoes.
âAh.â Luffy nods sagely. âThat sounds like Zoro.â
âOi!â
You giggle, watching as Zoro grabs a sword and jolts the hilt towards Luffyâs face.
Luffy grabs the hilt to deflect it, but when Zoro pulls his weapon back, Luffy careens forward.
âAh!â The shout is more from surprise than anything, Luffyâs knee colliding with your shin as he practically falls on you.
âShit,â Zoro breathes.
âOh.â Luffy scrambles himself off your leg. âAre you okay?â
âYeah,â you dismiss his concern. âThat actually didnât hurt, Iâm fine.â Youâre hefting yourself up with your elbows, expecting Luffy to move out of your way.
But he doesnât.
And now youâve almost pushed yourself up against his chest.
And heâs looking at you so earnestly your cheeks are flushing. âAre you sure youâre okay?â he presses.
You nod, throat thick. Body warm. Your eyes dart down to his lips. The urge to kiss him rises tenfold. Maybe you could just do it. No fancy situation, no set up. Just⊠this. With him hovering over you because it just happened that way. Staring at you with concern swimming in his pupils.
âSo, can I go now?â Zoro pipes up from behind you.
You startle, bumping a shoulder into Luffyâs chin.
Luffy recoils, effectively severing the moment.
âI am so sorry!â you gasp, reaching out to cradle his head. âOh God, are you okay?â
Luffy nods in your hands, chuckling lightly. ââM fine.â
âZoro, you canât just do that!â you hiss at him.
âI have been here the whole time,â he deadpans. âBut it seems Iâve done my job, so Iâm gonna gââ
Luffy tilts his head. âWhat job?â
âNothing!â you yell before Zoro can answer, letting go of Luffy like youâve been burnt. âNothing.â You slide out from between the two of them and clamber to your feet. âYou take your nap,â you say to Zoro, âand you can go back toââ You signal towards Usopp and Chopper, âplaying, I donât know.â You smile at Luffy even though you donât really feel it. âIâll go.â You depart before the two of them can say anything to you.
âYou were too much of a butthead,â Luffy says in a low enough voice that you know heâs not talking to you.
Thereâs the sound of something hard hitting something fleshy.
âHowâs this my fault?â Zoro retaliates.
You duck into your room before you can hear if their banter escalates to sparring.
two
Thereâs a stabbing pain in your side, but you ignore it in favour of running across the rubbleâor at least, try to. The sharp ache is all encompassing, and youâre pretty sure youâre bleeding out as well.
But right now, itâs of no matter.
What is of matter, though, is the fact that Luffy is on the other side of this debris, and you need to get to him.
You crest the peak and start down the slope towards the ground, towards your captain wobbling on his feet, bruised and ruffled. âLuffy!â
He turns when you call out to him, face lighting up when he catches sight of you.
Youâre practically tripping over your own feet to make it over to him, teeth gritting at the jabs that lance through your ribs.
He crashes into your body when you enter his personal space, your legs faltering under the unanticipated weight.
You catch yourself on your knees, holding in the gasp that wants to escape because him jarring into you didnât help. You wrap your arms beneath his shoulders to keep him up. âHey,â you breathe out, chest releasing some of the air that had been trapped in there at the thought of your captain in peril. âYou okay?â Youâre frantically pawing at his face, thumbs swiping at the blood and cuts.
Luffy nods, a soft smile pulling at his lips. ââM good,â he manages to answer around you pulling on his skin. âAre you?â
âYeah.â Satisfied with your inspectionâhis wounds are shallow and will heal up at a rate that still shocks youârelief pools into your stomach. âWeâre good, we won.â
He furrows his brows, eyes scanning your face before they rest down your body. âYouâre hurt,â he states.
âItâs fine.â You shake your head, hiding a wince because, yeah, it does hurt, but you donât want him to fuss over you when he looks like this. âIâll be fine.â
âYouâre bleeding,â he reiterates, cupping a hand over your wound.
âAh!â You shrink away from his touch, unbalancing both you and him because he had been essentially leaning on you for support.
Luffy circles his arm around you, righting you before you topple backwards, taking him down too. âYouâre hurt,â he repeats, voice soft.
You stare at him, face so close to yours that you can see his eyelashes. Youâre so pressed up against him that you feel him breathing on your chest, every rise and fall in tandem with yours.
His heart is beating quicklyâor maybe itâs yours.
It probably is yours.
Heâs so close to you, and your brain feels like mush; lightheaded and echoey. Your ears thunder with the sound of your own heart. Your breaths catch in your chest.
âWe should get you to Chopper,â he murmurs. He looks behind you, over the debris, where the rest of the crew should be.
A part of your brain knows itâs urgent, but the other part canât stop staring at his lips as he speaks. âLuffy,â you utter.
He snaps his focus back to you, gaze darting between your eyes. âWhat?â
You shift your weight onto his, and he takes it easily, tightening his arm around you. You can feel your breath blow back on your face with how hard youâre breathing onto Luffyâs. Your head fills more and more with cotton as you careen towards his lips.
You black out before you make it.
three
After the fiasco of employing Zoroâs assistance, you decide that he actually isnât much help at all. So the next best thing is to go to Robin. Because sheâs clever, and smart.
You sit her down in the quiet of the aquarium and tell her about your dilemma, and about Zoroâs ridiculous suggestion of âjust asking Luffy,â and how nothing youâve tried has worked.
She laughs at the end of your recollection, a soft thing that she hides in her palm before standing up. âCome with me,â she says.
You follow her, recognising the walk to the library as youâre halfway there.
She settles you down at the table before disappearing between some shelves, to, presumably, find a book. When she returns, a light in her eye, you know sheâs found something good. âItâs Christmas soon,â she says as though itâs a suggestion.
âOkay?â you ask, bemused.Â
She chuckles softly, rifling through the pages to find the spread she wants and places it on the desk, tilting it so itâs upright for you to read. âMistletoe.â
You look down at the page, a drawing of said plant on display. âUh-huh.â
âItâs tradition,â she begins, âfor people to kiss when theyâre caught under a mistletoe together.â
You glance up at her. âOh. So, we just have to get some mistletoe,â you say. The plan sounds easy enough.
But.
âWhere, exactly, are we gonna get some mistletoe?â
âNext time we stop by an island, I suppose,â she muses quietly. âItâs a Christmas tradition,â she elaborates, âso at this time of year, people will be selling these everywhere.â
âGreatâthank you.â You already feel much better about her advice than you did with Zoroâs. You lift the page between your fingers, pulling the paper.Â
Arms sprout from the table, clutching at your wrist.
âWhat,â Robin says, a harsh lilt to her tone, âare you doing?â
âI just need to know what it looks like.â
âYouâve seen what it looks like,â she continues in the same voice.
âYeah, but Iâm not gonna remember it once we get to an island.â
âSo, you decide to vandalise my book?â
âIâm not vandaliâOw, ow!â You let go of the page as she tightens her hold around you. âOkay, I made a mistake,â you cry.
The arms disappear. âIâll buy it for you,â she resumes the conversation like nothing happened. âYou can find some place to put it afterwards.â
You feel like you got whiplashed. âOkay,â you whisper, confused. âThank you?â
Itâs another three days before the ship docks at a small island, and Robin comes back with two sprigs of mistletoe. She hands one to you, keeping the other âjust in case.â You donât really know what that means, but at this point, you know well enough to just leave her and her property alone.
âWhereâs a good place to put this?â you ask, dangling the twig between your fingers.
âWhere would Luffy spend most of his time?â
You sigh.Â
You burst into the kitchen, having checked through the windows to make sure it was devoid of your captain first.
Sanji looks up at your sudden entrance, scraping carrots into a bowl. âDinnerâs almost ready,â he informs you absently. He returns to cutting the vegetables. âProbably start cooking in ten minutes.â
âThatâs not why Iâm here.â
That piques his interest, the blond looking up again. âWhatâs up?â he asks, attention now more evenly split between the food prep and you.
âIâŠâ You glance out the windows, as though talking about Luffy would summon him. âNeed your help with something.â
âMine?â
âYeah.â You approach the counter where heâs working, sitting on a stool opposite him. âI need to put this,â you lift the sprig higher so he can see, âsomewhere in here.â
Sanji stares at the plant. âMistletoe?â
âYes, see.â You tell him about Robinâs ingenious plan to help you kiss Luffy. And how Sanji knows the kitchen better than anyone, and knows where Luffy lingers the most.
Sanji lets out a sharp breath of amusement through his nose. âOkay.â
âGreat! Justânot now. Christmas is in five days, soââ
âI got it,â Sanji says. âKeep it safe âtil then.â
âExactly, thank you!â
The following week is busy; the crew gathering to decorate the Sunny, and making quick stops onshore to find gifts for one another. Between draping garland and wrapping presents, you find yourself migrating to the kitchen a lot.
Itâs not that you donât trust Sanji.
But.
This is really important to you, and you donât know if heâll prioritise it the same. You make sure the mistletoe is still alive and fresh. Hidden somewhere out of sight and not easily disposed of if someone else were to help out in the kitchen. Most days, you volunteer yourself to assist, just so you know another crew member wonât find it, and then no embarrassing explanation would have to ensue.
Itâs easier that way.
âGood morning,â Sanji greets, already anticipating your arrival with a cup of tea.
âHey.â You take a sip before putting the beverage down. âIsââ
âYep,â he says, already taking out the tin from the cupboard and sliding it across the countertop to you. âSame place as it was last night, when you checked. And the time before that, and before that too. Andââ
âAlright,â you snap, no heat in your tone. âIâm justâŠâ You shrug, at a loss for why you feel so obsessive over a piece of tree.
âNervous?â
You sigh. âYeah.â
Sanji pushes the tea over to your hands, and you smile at him. âHow about, no more looking at it today.â
You frown. âI donât think thatâs gonna help.â
âDid looking at it help?â
You close the lid and pass it back to him. âNo,â you admit quietly.
âI donât think youâre stressed about the mistletoe disappearing,â Sanji says, voice incredibly soft as he addresses you.
You hum, tapping your fingers on the sides of the cup. âI just⊠want it to work.â Because if it doesnâtâŠ
If it doesnâtâŠ
Thatâs not something you want to think about.
âIt will.â And he says it with so much certainty that for a second, you believe it too.
You donât check up on the mistletoe for the rest of the day, but you do still help out in the kitchen.
Youâre staring at the counter, where you know the mistletoe is. You know itâs there. You saw it this morning. Sanji let you put it back in there before closing the cupboard and declaring that place off-limits to you. And no one else had come in, other than to eat, and that was over here by the dining tables, not over there.
Thereâs still a gnawing feeling in your stomach, but you havenât seen it. So, what if? What if someone came through, looking for something else, and in their search, saw it and took it?
âAre you okay?â
You blink back to the present, snippets of conversation tuning back into focus like a radio. Right. Dinner with the crew. Everyoneâs here, eating and having fun.Â
Sanji is peering at you from across the table, waiting for your answer.
âYeah,â you say. âJustâdistracted.â You look back down to your plate, surprised to find that nothingâs been taken from it.
âDo you want to check it?â
You purse your lips in thought. It would help.
But.
âNo.â You shake your head. âIâve already gone most of the day, right?â you say. âNo point caving now.â
âIf youâre sure,â Sanji relents. At your nod, he sighs. âCan you just eat something?â
You stick your spoon into the rice.
A chicken drumstick is placed on your plate, and when you follow the hand attached to it, you realise it belongs to Luffy, sitting on the far end of the table.
âYou look sad,â he calls across, retracting his arm.
âIâm fine,â you dismiss his concern, turning back to your food. âThanks.â
The rest of the crew watches, astounded at their captainâs generosity, and your lack of response.
When Christmas finally arrives, youâre not sure how you feel. Yes, itâs Christmas, so youâre excited. But that means putting up the mistletoe and finally bringing your plan to fruition. And that part, youâre more reluctant about.
Youâre the first one in the kitchen aside from Sanji, and he looks up, smiling at you.
âDoor,â he says.
You turn, watching it close. âWhat?â
âThe mistletoe,â he reiterates. âPut it up last night.â
âOh!â With the new information, you tilt your head back. It sways gently from the doorâs motions. âThatâs the best place for it?â
âLuffy comes and goes upwards of twenty times a day.â Sanji sounds sure of himself. âIf thereâs any place that he frequents a lot, itâs that door.â
âThanks, Sanji,â you say, beelining for the tea heâs left for you on the counter.
Sanji starts to crack eggs into a mixing bowl, and you stare at your drink. âHow are you feeling?â
You shrug. âStill nervous, but⊠not much else I can do about it.â
âJust.â He takes a whisk from the drawer. âDonât think about it too much.â
Scoffing, you take a sip of your tea. âI really donât think thereâs anything else for me to think about, right now.â
âWhat do you want for breakfast?â he asks.
âWhatever youâre making,â you say absently, âI donât mind.â Youâre two-thirds of the way through your drink when you speak again. âWhat if it doesnât go right?â
âHow?â
âLike, what ifâŠ?â You swallow something thick. âWhat if he doesnât want to kiss me? Then Iâve justââ
Luffy crashes through the door, startling you out of your conversation with Sanji. He scans the kitchen, face lighting up when he makes eye contact with you, bounding over. âWhat are you doing in here?â he asks, plopping himself down in the chair youâre standing next to.
âNothing,â you deflect, because you donât really want to tell him that you were lamenting to Sanji about whether heâd kiss you or not. But your answer is suspicious too, so you retract your earlier statement with what you hope is a carefree shrug.
(Itâs not.)
âI was helping out with food and stuff.â You turn to the eggs already beaten laid out in front of Sanji. Shit.
Luffy hums, a slight dejection to the note. âCome outside,â he says instead.
You pause, trying to think of an excuse. âBut we gotta make breakfast, then thereâs the big Christmas dinnââ
âBut I miss you,â he says, frowning.
Oh.
âWe donÊŒt hang out much, anymore.â
You blink, gulping your dangerously loud heart back into your chest. Itâs suddenly warm in the kitchen even though the ovens and stoves are off. âOkay,â you croak.
Luffy beams at you, and your breath sweeps away. He grabs your hand to lead you out, and your palm feels clammy in his.
As youâre leaving, Sanji clears his throat.
Luffy stops, turning around. âWhat?â he asks.
You turn too, a murderous glare pointed at the blond. Shut the fuck up, you will towards him.
Sanji flickers his gaze over your heads.
âWhat?â Luffy repeats.
âNothing,â you say quickly, trying to step further onto the deck to steer him out of the kitchen.
Luffy purses his lips, standing his ground. Heâs always been stronger than you, so your attempts to move him are rendered futile because heâs not cooperating. âNo, I wanna know,â he presses. Thereâs a pout to his lips, and you canât help but think he looks cute like this.
âItâs just.â You swallow thickly, tilting your head up to look at the top of the door frame.
Luffy follows your eyes, zeroing in on the lone green tendril hanging off the door. âAh,â he says.
You watch him, trepidation drying your tongue.
âWhyâd Sanji put food in such a weird place?â
âWhat?â
He shoots his arm towards it, clutching the plant in his handsâleaves and all.
And shoves it in his mouth.
âNo!â
âAre you fucking kidding me?â Sanji yells, vaulting over the counter. He grabs Luffy by the back of the neck. âSpit it out!â
âLuffy, that was mistletoe,â you say when youâve gotten over the initial shock. Your hands are hovering over him, wanting to help but not sure how because Sanji is already there, and youâd only be in the way.
âSo?â he manages to say around Sanji trying to pull his mouth open.
âMistletoe is poisonous, you dumbass!â Sanji growls, realising that itâs already been swallowed. âWe need to get you to Chopper.â
âBut I feel fine,â Luffy protests.
You usher your captain out the door, heartbeat reverberating loudly in your throat. âNo, please justâCâmon.â You walk around Luffy when youâve exited the kitchen, pulling on his hand to lead him to the infirmary. You look at Sanji over Luffyâs shoulder. âYou goâŠâ You gesture back inside the kitchen. âI got this.â
âYou sure?â Sanji asks.
You nod. âThereâs a lot to do for today.â You turn back around, glancing at the rest of the deck. âChopper!â you call out to him when you see the reindeer with Usopp and Nami.
Chopper darts his head up, looking at you. âYeah?â
âWe need you in here!â you say, pointing your thumb back towards the door of the doctorâs office.
Thereâs clambering as Chopper disregards his prior activitiesâunwrapping presents, judging by the colours on the floorâto run over. âWhat happened?â he asks when heâs closer.
âI ate something,â Luffy says when you open the door. âSanji said it was poisonous.â
âMistletoe,â you interject before Chopper can panic too much. You stand to the side, letting them in first.
âMistletoe?â Chopper repeats.
âItâs⊠a long story.âÂ
plus one
Chopper releases Luffy from the infirmary after coming to the conclusion that the captainâs run-in with Magellan has heightened his tolerance for poison. So eating a twig of mistletoe will do nothing more to him than upset his stomach, which should pass on its own.
After the little doctor confirms this, you breathe out a sigh of relief.
Luffy turns to you; a smile on his face, a comment on his tongue of how youâd been so worried over nothing, butâ
Youâre exiting the room, door shutting behind you.
âHey!â Luffy scrambles off the bed, sidestepping Chopper with a quick âThanks!â before dashing outside to find you.
Youâre faster than anticipated, halfway to the dorms.
But Luffy has abilities that you donât, so he stretches his arms, hooking his palm around the mast to slingshot himself forward, landing in front of you with a grunt.
âFuck!â you hiss, jumping backwards, eyes wild with his sudden appearance.
âSorry!â Luffy is quick to placate you.
âWhat the Hell?â
âDidnât mean to scare youâWhatâs wrong?â He interrupts himself with the question because thatÊŒs more important right now, and knowing how the two of you like to banter, youâd gloss over how youâre feeling in order to keep teasing him about startling you.Â
âWhat?â
âThereâs something wrong with you,â Luffy says, because he hasnât been seeing much of you this past week, and he thought that maybe you just wanted time for yourself to recharge, but you were always in the kitchen with Sanji, instead of hanging out with him like you usually did, and thatâ
He pushes that aside.
Not important right now.
âThereâs nothing wrong with me,â you say quietly.
âYes, there is.â Heâs insistent, knowing that whatever it is is bothering you.
âItâs just⊠I wanted toââ You sigh. âNothing,â you dismiss. Then, âItâs stupid.â
âWhatâs stupid about it?â
You pause, thinking about his question. âI⊠donât know.â
âSo, it canât be stupid.â
Your lips quirk up, a brief thing that lights up your face for a millisecond, but Luffy watches, enamoured, because he hasnât seen it in so long.
âItâsâŠâ You shrug, hesitation dancing across your features. You stare up at him, and he really wishes your eyes werenât apprehensive.
âTell me,â he presses gently.
âI want to kiss you.â
âOh.â He suddenly finds it hard to breathe. âAnd that makes you upset?â The thought of that squeezes his chest.
âNo, no! That doesnât make me upset, itâs just, Iâve been trying to kiss you for the past month, but things would happen, and I couldnât do it, and then we came up with this plan with the mistletoe, but youââ
He stretches his arms, wrapping them around your waist to pull you towards him. He leans down and seals his mouth over yours, effectively silencing you.
You gasp in surprise, but the noise is swallowed up, lips chasing after yours. Heâs squeezing you to him, waist pulled in so close he can barely think straight.
You wrap your arms around his neck, urging him closer, and Luffy tilts his head, fingers breaching the hem of your shirt to caress your skin. You whimper, so delightfully desperate that Luffy pushes against you, tongue swiping across your bottom lip.Â
He loves the noiseâthe neediness lacing your tone that heâs only ever heard you use towards him. Every time heâs been unimaginably close to you, heâd notice the way youâd stare at him, full of want and unadulterated longing that it fogs his brain and tightens his heart down to his stomach.
And how youâd whisper his name, like you did back in the forest, even though you were bleeding out. You were staring at his lips and he thought you were going to kiss him, and he realised that in that moment, he wanted to, too. And he wouldâve. If you hadnât passed out immediately after.
Then after heâd taken you to Chopper and you recovered, you pulled away, secluding yourself in the kitchen with Sanji, pretty much all day.
But, now.
Luffy gets to kiss you. He giggles into your mouth, something light bubbling away in his chest.
You pull away from him, breathing heavily. âWhy did you do that?â
âBecause you wanted to.â
âBut did you want to?â
He thinks about you; his crewmate, nakama, friend. Someone he trusts with his life. Had gone through the biggest ups and downs of his life with you. Then he thinks about kissing you, of how many times heâd wanted to in the past, even before the forest. âYeah.â And because he can, he pulls you in for another kiss, and he feels you smiling against his lips.
When you part this time, itâs his turn to ask a question. âWhy didnât you just kiss me when you wanted to?â
âBecause itâs weird,â you say as if itâs common sense. âYou canât just kiss a friend out of nowhere.â
âBut weâre not just friends. Weâre⊠different.âÂ
âDifferent?â you echo.
âThe way I feel about you, and us, itâs different from how I feel about the others. Itâs just different with you.â
You swallow and Luffy watches your throat move. âSo, youâre saying, I could have kissed you, at any time, in the past few months, and you would have been okay with it?â
Luffy nods. âYep.â
You purse your lips. âOh, dear Lord,â you mutter under your breath, âZoro was right.â
âAbout what?â
âHe said I shouldâve just asked youâI thought he was being daft.â
Luffy laughs, and you smile up at him, drinking in the noise. âYouâre silly.â
You nod, before double taking as you catch sight of something over his shoulder.
Luffy looks up too.
Thereâs another sprig of mistletoe dangling from under the mast, metres high above your head.
âDonât,â you say, before Luffy can react, âeat it this time.â
