“Hmm…maybe a sitcom or an anime.” She scrunched up her nose, making a face at him. She honestly didn’t care what they looked at, as long as they got to spend time with one another. “I’ve been watching Parks and Recreation. It’s a funny show.”
“I’ve actually been watching this one anime.”He offered a smile, and moved the cursor so that the it rested over the one he was watching. “It’s pretty cool.”
“Aw, that warms my heart.” She leans into his touch, her head resting gently on his chest. “Well that’s good, considering my intentions are actually pure.”
“So what are we gonna watch? Come on now, don’t make me choose on my own.” He’d probably choose some lame series, let’s be real. He’s totally thinking about watching one of those cool animes he’d gotten himself totally invested in.
“…You heard that? Really?” She bit down on the inside of her cheek to refrain from laughing.
“Hey I’m always for netflix and chill.”He outstretched an arm, pulling her closer as he picked up the remote to bring up netflix on the tv. “Don’t worry, I’m not gonna be givin’ the look any time soon.”

Her body tensed up upon feeling the gloved palm touch her bare shoulder. Snow’s hand…felt cold to the touch. But the power she felt between them was completely unmistakable. Regardless of how hopeless she could tell he felt, there was shock written in his features.
He just couldn’t believe it was her. What she saw in front of her was a shell of a man she once knew like the back of her hand. He looked like cracked ceramic, like if you held him wrong he would break in your grip. There was no optimism left in his body.
Just despair.
The whole room seemed to darken and it was just them…and silence. They were not in an unseen realm, but this was damn near close.
“…Snow,” Was all Alpha managed to say before pausing. “I…”
“How are you here? Where’s Miranda?”
He wasn’t entirely sure he wanted the answer to that question. But part of his life had been returned to him, and he wasn’t entirely sure how he was supposed to respond.
Words were hard to come by and he was usually quite articulate.
“Please, help me understand what the hell is happening, Alpha.”

Arriving in Yusnaan was just the first step. Lightning had not touched down in the decaying realm of the living just yet, so it was her job to set the foundation–just to make it easier on her. There was a party within the palace, and she was allowed in. She had a black masquerade mask on and her hair curled. She even changed her eye color momentarily to hide her true identity, whatever good that will do. Once inside, Snow wasn’t that hard to spot. In fact, he was like the center of attention. Alpha glanced up at him momentarily before mingling with the common folk.
Time’s finally ticking. Let’s get this over with.
500 years of loneliness, the Patron had lasted five hundred miserable years alone. With nothing but his own grief and misery to guide him. And for a while it’d been easy. He was the hero of the common people of Yusnaan. He was helpful, kind, he gave them hope.
He even pushed aside his feelings, as if he hadn’t lost the best thing that had ever happened to him. The mysterious girl who had fought so long and hard to keep him away, only to give in in the end.
So when he heard that familiar hum and buzzed in his brain threatening to knock him off balance, he scanned the crowd looking for it’s source. A renewed sense of hope striking into him a desire to live that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
Answers. He needed answers. He moved from his place above those attending his party, and down into the crowd searching. Endlessly searching for the contact that would kill the buzzing hum that relentlessly attacked his senses.
His hand came in contact with her by mistake, and at first he’d been prepared to apologize, until he realized that there was silence. The hum was gone, and everything else seemed to fade into the background and out of existance.
The white haired woman was more than familiar to him now.
“But how.”
It was impossible that he was staring at her now. Absolutely impossible. She was gone. He’d seen it happen, and yet, Alpha part of the whole he’d come to love so much stood there. And he could almost feel himself breaking.
He didn’t know how to respond.
“…I don’t have any choice. It’s either stay with Guardian Corps and society stays intact, or I’ll be someone’s guinea pig. Again.” She bit down on her lip, the piece of flesh slowly becoming red and irritated. “…Ask something else besides about my occupation.”
“Or you can stick with me, and not a damn soul will touch you.”Experimentation. It was cruel, inhumane. Who would do something like that? That was a stupid question. A really stupid question. The government. “What did they do to you?”
He should’ve attempted to be a bit more subtle about the topic, but he was growing angrier by the second.
“…Believe what you want, Snow.” She folded her arms, shifting her weight between her heels and her toes. “…I do what I have to. That’s all.”
“But you don’t want too. Seems like a hell of a way to live if you ask me.” He stopped giving a damn about what he had to do a long time ago. He was a hero. And heroes didn’t need the governments permission to save people.
“…Yeah, okay.” Miranda shook her head, then sighed. “I’m not connected to PSICOM at all. PSICOM’s public. I’m with Guardian Corps. Different branches when it comes to the military.”
“It’s the government all the same to me. All of it’s still a corrupt institution. Do you actually enjoy what you do? Or do you do it because you have to?”
“…I feel like you get off by pissing me off. But fine, I’ll indulge you since you won’t take no for an answer. Ask a question and I’ll try to answer it as honest as possible.”
Fair enough. He’d finally gotten her to agree to open up if only a fraction of a meter, which was good. In fact, it was perfect.
“Who? Me? Nah.”
There was that infamous wink, smirk combo he was oh so known for. A gesture made all in good fun. He actually had no intentions to piss her off, that just sorta happened.
“What’s your connection to those PSICOM lackeys?”
“You can play twenty questions with me for as long as you want… my answer remains the same. Cut it out.”
“I wouldn’t have to play twenty questions If you’d answer half the ones I have.”
Snow pointed out with a smirk falling into place on his features. He made a good point. And he was willing to bet she hated that.
“If this is your territory, then how did you let Cie’th in here?” She walked on, her hand firmly placed on her gunblade. “This place is overrunning with them and you’re worried about how much ground you cover.”
“My apologies, I do have a life outside of hiding in warehouses.”He pointed out letting a laugh escape his lips. “I mean if you insist on putting them out of their misery more power to you. Lead the way, soldier girl.”
Miranda sighed, upon hearing the door open and close again. God, he was going to be a pain. She didn’t need another person to slow her down. “…None of your concern. Get away from this place.”
“I think it’s all of my concern. After all, this is my territory.” He smirked, “I know it like the back of my hand. And anything or anyone that doesn’t belong, I assure you i’ll be the first to know it’s out of place.”
She walked past him, her hand resting on the handle of the entrance door. “…I’m handling a job. Don’t follow me.” She opened the door, stepping inside. He looked like he could follow directions, but she knew better. His name sounded familiar, anyway.
Was that supposed to stop him? He never had been good with authority or following orders. He waited a few seconds, before following after her in almost hastened excitement. Of course. He was doing what he did best. The exact opposite of what he was told to do. “So what’s this job.”

“Who…what are you doing here?” She did say anything else until he responded. Her eyes were locked ahead of her, towards the abandoned building she’s supposed to be investigating. Reports said that they’ve seen Cie’th wandering around the vicinity and inside. It was her job to destroy them all, if the rumors are true.
“Snow. Snow Villiers, and this, is my hang out. What are you doing here?”He asked, expression shifting from blank to a classic smirk that seemed at home on his face. What was she doing here? Nobody ever really came out to the warehouse district, that was his territory. When he spent time alone anyway.
After she was out of sight, she fell on her knees to the ground. Her anger flooded her mind. She was angry at Snow, she was angry at the world, she was angry with life, but she was also angry with herself. Not knowing where to direct her angry, a high-pitched wail escaped her lips. How pathetic you must look. A crying heap kneeling on the ground. A voice in her head taunted, the voice she often let control her choices. Obviously, if anyone’s to blame, it’s the blonde one. He let them die after all. Willow tried to push the voice away, but it was persistent. Stop being such a sobbing mess. It commanded. As if influenced by what it said, she raised a trembling arm and wiped her eyes. It was right. It wasn’t hurt fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault but Snow’s. That’s all she needed to know. However, despite her frustration to most things slowly flickering out, she stayed still. Her legs were currently too tired to move.
He was going to go after her. He wasn’t going to try to stop her. Hell, he didn’t blame her for wanting somewhere to put the blame. Call it human nature, it was just how things worked. The mind searched for somewhere to put the blame of things that it couldn’t explain. All the loss she’d suffered today, he could’ve saved one or two of those people. If he hadn’t been so worried about her. He deserved the blame, hell, he’d shoulder it for all of eternity, if that’s what it took to make her feel better about herself, to help her grieve and move on. Even then, maybe he just wasn’t deserving of the love she’d almost managed to return, perhaps this was just fates way of saying it. He could live with that. Granted he’d be a little more than broken, but he could live with it. He’d learned to live with a lot of things by that point.He’d also learned how to live without a lot of things. He didn’t need to be loved. He didn’t even need anyone to like him, most people didn’t like their heroes anyway. Heroes were misunderstood, almost as often as villians were. It was funny, maybe he’d actually been the villain all along, masquerading as a hero. Since every attempt to save lives he made ended in failure, maybe he was destined to destroy. Wouldn’t that be a sick twist of a fate?
