my parents never came to anything I did.
I have so many memories about this, but one in particular: when I was away at camp with 89 other teenagers, and at the one-month mark the post was collected distributed to all the dorms. 89 other children tore open their boxes and, shovelling handfuls of sweets their parents had sent them into their mouths, read pages-long letters and handed around photos of their brothers and sisters.
I didn't. I didn't get anything, I sat on my empty bed watching them. The teachers had to call my parents and ask if perhaps the post had gone missing...? but my parents were surprised they were required to interact with me while I was away.
Well, today, my 3-year-old daughter had a fun-run. The childcare centre invited parents to come but stressed that if we weren't able to, it was alright. There was no fucking way I wasn't going. My daughter wasn't going to be the only child there without a parent watching.
I got time off work and stood there in the beating sun and plastered in greasy sunscreen waiting to see my little girl emerge from inside the centre and stand on the track.
When she did, her little eyes searched through the crowd person-by-person for me, and absolutely lit up like the sun when she spotted me.
Mine filled with tears as I waved at her and cheered.
I'm breaking the cycle.
do you think if we all asked really nicely they would stop making movies about the holocaust
[id: reply by @isabeau276 reading "When exactly did the last movie about the Holocaust, which is for historical purposes as well as to inform people, including idiot people, about what happened—The stories are endless and need to be told. How bizarre and offensive to label it a fetish—come out and what was its/their name/names. Please help clear my memory; the last I remember is Schindler's List and The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. Both were extremely important productions. I guess *you* "forget." Thanks. 🙅🏻♀️💜🌷🩷🌷" /end id]
hi! thank you for your reply. in my response, i'm going to be pretending i didn't notice the smug, sanctimonious, and sarcastic tone in this reply, and will instead be addressing these points as though they were being presented in good faith:
When exactly did the last movie about the Holocaust
well one recent example was the zone of interest from 2023, which won an oscar. [x] if you need more examples, might i recommend this wikipedia page: [x]
which is for historical purposes as well as to inform people, including idiot people, about what happened
i have some bad news for you about the movies you mention later. i want to bring up an important book that i think will be very enlightening in this conversation: people love dead jews by dana horn. i've already taken the liberty of transcribing and posting some of my favorite quotes, which i will be linking: on the sanitization of holocaust narratives and which narratives end up successful [x, x (oh hey look this one mentions one of your examples), x], on what current holocaust media and education is actually teaching [x, x]
The stories are endless and need to be told
nobody is denying the importance of the preservation and education of these stories. however, it's important that we discuss what narratives are most popular and why (hint: some answers include antisemitism and capitalism)
How bizarre and offensive to label it a fetish
i'm assuming this is referring to @baroque-hashem's reblog containing the phrase "i want goyim to stop fetishizing our trauma." fetishization as a term refers to the act of ascribing value to an object (in this example, a group of people) not because of the object itself, but rather because of what it represents. in this instance, the meaning of this phrase is found in the second half of the sentence: "i want goyim to stop fetishizing our trauma as if we exist solely as a moral allegory for goyim"—meaning, goyim don't actually care about jews or jewish trauma, they only care about their ability to use it as a metaphor for their moral education. refer to people love dead jews to learn more. (also, the sexual meaning of the word "fetish" came after the original meaning [x], which has a very anti-indigenous slant to it but that's for another post. either way, baroque-hashem's usage of the term was correct)
Schindler's List and The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. Both were extremely important productions
important, maybe, but anything but representative of the holocaust, and they're honestly piss poor education tools. the latter is especially criticized for the literal harm it has done to holocaust education [x, x, x], however that certainly doesn't mean that the former was without rebuke [x (this one lists more films for your list), x, x]
i made the original post while searching for good jewish films to watch that weren't about the holocaust and just treated the jews as normal people. every list of iconic jewish films i encountered had holocaust films on it, every streaming service i searched "jewish" or "judaism" on gave me almost exclusively holocaust films. it's impossible to try to find jewish stories about jews being jews without being inundated by a mountain of media about one example of jewish suffering. (which is another thing—we have a LOT of examples of jewish suffering that aren't the holocaust, why is it that the holocaust is the only event goyim care about, and why is it that holocaust narratives are the only stories about jewish pain that sell?) does it have to be so hard to just find some jewish stories??? it doesn't even have to be about jewish joy—i think i ended up watching the 2009 movie "a serious man"—i just want to watch something that isn't about the fucking holocaust for once! and why are so many movies about the holocaust made by fucking goyim!!! (read people love dead jews to find out)
YOU. Are a tremendous ASS. You don’t have a chip on your shoulder, you’ve got a freaking redwood. If you think I’m wasting my time reading all this bs you wasted your time and trouble compiling:😂😂😂And don’t even bring baroquehashem into it; she’s one of my favorite people here, you FREAKING MUTT. How about reread your own damn post AGAIN you insufferable FOOL! I asked one simple question. But apparently YOU. LACK ALL READING COMPREHENSION. More, you thought you were calling the shots, huh? YOU CALLED THEM ALL WRONG, YOU RABID IMBECILE. Smug? Sanctimonious? Sarcastic?? What in the actual FK are you even TALKING ABOUT?! Do yourself a favor. Your entire life is out of control. Get offline. Take a vacation. Go to shul. Give confession to a priest, IDGAF, you nut case. Just simply, quickly, NOW. Get lost. And oh yeah. Just reply: Duhhh, I don’t know what movies, you sh*t for brains. You think YOU’RE going to tell ME something? Teach ME something?? I’m older than you, you twit. I’m smarter than you can hope to be. And quite frankly, all you do is make me sick. There’s still a tent city here at Columbia; maybe go spew your foaming mouth diatribe at the pro pal fkrs who might need to know whatever tf it is you wasted your time with here. And hey. Good luck with that.😂😂😂🙄🙄🙄🤡🤡🤡
can we make this a copypasta please
throwback to my favorite reply ive ever gotten on a post
I just need to say that, I can see the merit in some Holocaust films... But I genuinely hate "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas", both the book and the movie.
hello allo person in a fandom. let’s play a game. in front of you are two characters. your challenge is to okay and you’ve already started shipping them. well the crusher machine is going to activate now goodbye.
Whenever I think about the ASL trio as kids, no matter WHAT au, I can’t imagine them with any sort of parental supervision. They live on the streets. They live in several different homes. No one knows where they came from but they have a bunch of connections to some of the most powerful and infamous people in the world. They steal bread from markets despite having food at home. One of their homes. All three kids have more than four parents. They’re being looked after by the neighbourhood. They like to sleep outside and make homes in abandoned houses. Sabo can pickpocket. I don’t know.
i feel like we've completely killed the ability to just gently tell someone when they're wrong or that their opinions don't pass the vibe check. we have to accommodate every single type of person and all their dogshit opinions OR we have to drive them off the internet, no in between
like you should be able to tell someone hey i think this belief you hold is harmful and i kindly ask you to reconsider your position or something instead of being like well you're toxic and everyone should dogpile you until you die or just being like welllllll it's not my business teehee they can perpetuate whatever they want
conversely i think we've also killed the ability to accept this kind of gentle criticism lol people just run to hide behind their identities .. im literally neurodivergent and a minor
I can smell the poison in my goblet but I lowkey don't even care anymore
i am Thinkimg . about the Character. and listening to a Song. i a m sure this will not have repercussions
you could perhaps say i got very invested in my oc

I think at bare minimum all medical professionals need to make sure they are treating patients with more kindness and respect than grifters. if you go to a doctor and they treat you like shit, humiliate you, and send you home without any information on your body or access to treatment, then health-grifters' offers will start to feel more tempting by simply giving the most basic performance of taking you seriously and caring about your well-being. grifters should be condemned for manipulating and exploiting sick people, and doctors also play a role in whether grifts thrive or are successfully identified and rejected. genuine baseline human respect, and beginning a relationship with a patient by earning (rather than demanding) trust, goes a long way.
im fucking crying
The way I already made a pondering the orb edit of this lil fella from seeing this pic on discord
