There seems to be a huge topic of discussion over is Matty was in the right or the wrong in the whole situation of him kissing me, but honestly, no one has asked about my opinion on the issue? No one knows how much last night meant to me and how close I will hold that to my heart for the rest of my life.

1. I was the girl he kissed and do not victimize me in any way from this situation. I have been a victim of sexual assault and what happened with Matty was nowhere near him taking advantage of me. DO NOT label me as a victim based on the situation with Matty, I will not stand for that. I deny any accusations of him taking advantage of me. Right when I went on stage he said, “is this okay?” and I said “yes” in his year and hugged him tighter. I was not in any way being manipulated or anything like that. There was not one point in the concert while I was on stage where I was uncomfortable. If anything, there was a girl after the show that went to congratulate me and I thought she was going to hug me but then she kissed me. That is not okay, I did not consent to that, but everyone is preoccupied saying Matty was taking advantage of me.

2. In the United States, the legal age of consent is 18, and all we did was kiss, we didn’t fuck on stage or anything? He knew I was 18 and the crew knew I was 18. I have been to 18+ shows and have told crew members that I’m 18 in conversations throughout the tour. I am sure that Matty knew I was 18 based on the earlier experiences I have had with him at shows where it’s LEGALLY required to be 18+.

3. There’s nothing wrong with having an opinion but DO NOT victimize me and say that I was being taken advantage of when that is possibly the least true thing about the whole situation. Matty has don’t NOTHING wrong, do not make it seem like he’s a predator in what happened to me when I consented to everything that happened. You may not like that Matty kissed a fan but there was nothing wrong about the entire situation. Everything that happened occurred between two consenting adults.

To make accusations like this can ruin someone’s career, and I can’t believe some fans are making these accusations and making Matty out to be some predator when he is not. I am sure if I was not 18, he would not have kissed me, but he knew I was 18. Matty has don’t nothing wrong in this situation and to see fans makin it seem like he took advantage of me is ridiculous.

This isn’t just another shooting.

This is now officially, with over 50 casualties, the worst mass shooting in United States history. And the fact that it took place at a gay club was not merely coincidence. This was not just another act of senseless violence in America. This was a hate crime.

A man walked into a safe space for the LGBT community with an assault rifle and lined them up and slaughtered them.

Don’t do what the media is inevitably going to do. Don’t erase where this happened and who this happened to.

When you make your statements for/against gun control, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the gunman’s reported religious beliefs, remember this was a hate crime. When your politicians make empty promises about changing the way things are, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the media’s coverage of this, remind everyone this was hate crime.

Do not gloss over the identities of the victims. They were killed for them. This was a hate crime.

George and I are like brothers, we had never left each other’s side. We complete each other. And my problems at that time separated us a little bit. It catalysed the troubles that he had and solidified all of the issues that I was having in return, and it became this really dark time. And born out of that was The Ballad of Me and My Brain. So, now, retrospectively I can think it was all okay, but it really fucked us up as a couple – because we are a couple, really. The distance that we travelled away from each other turned out to be a really important part of the album. When George got better, the unity we felt when we both got back together was like I’d been away from my wife for six months and I’d just picked her up at the airport and it was sunny and we were going on holiday. I know that sounds mad, but it’s true.
