I don't want to be a writer or an artist, can I still participate?

Of course! There is also the option to be a beta reader for the event's writers, or to be a moderator for the Tumblr or the Discord server. Aside from that, however, you'll just have to follow along for updates and wait for posting week! (we'll be posting teasers in the months to come)

Do I have to join the Discord server to participate?

No, you do not! It is helpful for brainstorming, writing sprints and connections with other writers and artists, but it is perfectly fine to simply create your own group chat (Tumblr, Discord, or elsewhere) once your group is announced.

Submission Requirements

5K word requirement for fanfiction. You can, and are of course, encouraged to, go over the requirement!

Tag appropiately. You are allowed to be dark in your fiction, but we require that content warnings be given with the writer summaries and that important tags are included with both the art and the fiction in our event.

Art can be traditional, digital, animatic, animation, sculpture, comic, moodboard, etc. As long as it was selected as one of the art forms the writer is okay with, it is fine.

Any work, art or fanfic, does not have to be perfect. It does however have to have time put into it. Please use your best judgment.

Art must be made by you. Plagiarism is not allowed, and use of generative AI to make your written work or artwork will be cause for removal from the event. Please don't.

After Nora was completely gone into the world of dreams, Nick pulled on his shirt and trousers and went down. He found his coat but where was his stupid plate. His abdomen was still a window to his guts. He cursed silently. Nick didn´t want to wake Nora. After some stumbling around in the dark and some more silent curses, he found it and set it in. He button up his shirt. And relaxed.

Nick had much time to think when everyone was asleep. Like they were dreaming and processing their day in their unconsciousness sleep, he had time to think about it consciously. Was it right what he did? Did he just do it because of some short circuits? Were there real emotions in him?

He shook his head. He needed something to distract himself, so he was walking around the apartment. It was cozy and full of clutter. He was more the minimalism kind of person but Nora loved gathering things, especially things from the past, from before war. There were some figures, old, probably broken, tech and some unfinished project laying around. It never got boring with her and that was something he loved about her. His pumps really had to do heavy work when she was around.

You do not forget seeing a man slump over dead against the glass mid-sentence only for a scrap job set of power armor with the helmet missing popping up to exclaim “Hi!”

Fic Claiming Opens This Tuesday!

Exciting news for our participants, fic claiming opens tomorrow, Tuesday December 3rd!

Beta writers and readers will be able to look at the spreadsheet of story details without the author names and pick which five they would like to work on the most.

They have a week to turn in their decisions, and then the assigned groups will be announced a week after that on December 17th!

Authors are free to write during this time if they feel like it!

so, im writing a fic that kind of rewrites both new vegas and fallout 4, essentially writing a cooler version of the institute into the mojave. would that count? or does it have to be exclusively fallout 4?

Hello! Thanks for the ask!

Since your setting is not Fallout 4/is a modified version of New Vegas, at least one of the main characters in your story needs to recognizably be a Fallout 4 character for it to count. The Sole Survivor could count, if they are still from prewar times, and had Shaun kidnapped. So could any other character from Fallout 4 if they are part of your main cast.

If you decide to have your fic for the Big Bang be set in Fallout 4, your main character does not have to be featured in the game, it can be an original character unrelated to the sole survivor, or, if the main point involves interacting with the Fallout 4 characters and environment, it can be a character from another game or the show.

All you have to do to access the Discord server is sign up as a beta reader, artist, writer, or moderator. As soon as we notice you've signed up and don't seem to be a troll, we will give you an invite link to the server if you want it!

You'll have to go through a bit more of a process of earning trust to get a moderator position, but otherwise, that's it!

Fallout 4 Big Bang Collaborative Groups

The groups in Fallout 4, once they have been chosen, are meant to be collaborative! The writer shares progress, funny bits, pieces they are proud of, whatever they're comfortable sharing with their artist, and if they have one, their beta reader.

During the writer check-ins, the writers are required to share with a mod how much they've written, and how close to done they think they are. They are also required to share their story with the artist and beta reader at this point, if they have not yet, so that the artist can have better ideas for their art project and the beta reader can help edit. It doesn't have to be the document with ongoing edits - it could be a static, unchanging copy if you feel more comfortable with that.

The artists have more time than just between the due date of the fics and their due date for the art projects. Artists can start making their art at any point after being inspired by what the writer has written and shared, and the writer check-ins help facilitate sharing!

I came up with the idea to do it this year, and I'm definitely considering doing it again next year! It'll depend on a few factors, including how well it goes this time, and if I still have enough free time next year! I'd say from how it's looking right now, at least 70% likely it'll happen next year!

For writers, what should summaries look like? Is there a specific format/length/level of detail/whatever to follow? Sorry, never done a big bang before but very interested in maybe joining!!

Some general guidelines/rules of thumb for your summary.

About 3-8 sentences.

Includes names of at least one main character

If it is an AU, this should be mentioned.

Includes the main premise. What is driving the plot of this story? Here is an example summary. In an AU without the Sole Survivor, Nick Valentine is losing his memories. He's definitely not going to the Institute for help. In fact, he's going to ignore it entirely. However, when a case with Hancock to find Kasumi unearths unresolved romantic tension, Nick starts to care. Will the duo find a cure for Nick Valentine before it's too late? The point of the required summaries is to tell the artists and beta readers what kind of a fic you're writing, to hook them into wanting to learn more about it.
