Tyler was in a fairly good mood, the dayâs classes had passed with ease and he was on the later patrol tonight so he had plenty of time to spend in his favourite place: the library, of course. Xiao had informed him the moment he arrived that theyâd ordered new books a little while ago and theyâd arrived- some were completely new and otherâs were less-battered copies of books that had been in the library some time- and it would be a great help to him if Tyler could do the replacements for him, by collecting the old books and putting the new on the shelves. He would even be allowed to keep some of the old copies, if he liked.
He had been given the restricted section to deal with, Tyler knew it rather well after a few years of being allowed to gather books from there and occasionally lend a hand, and for the time being the section was to be closed off while he sorted through everything. At least it was meant to be sectioned off. Tyler had been at the far corners for some time, there were a few books that needed to be replaced but were currently borrowed, so he was making notes of which books were now on the shelves to add to the files when movement caught his attention.
Tyler sighed. He continued fitting another book onto the shelf and ticked it off his list, keeping his focus on the task at hand for a moment before he looked up, down the aisle. âThis section isnât open this afternoon,â He announced, tucking his quill against his list and dragging a hand back through his hair, adding after another moment, âBut you probably knew that already, considering the sign that was put up at the entrance, so either you ignored it or you didnât understand it. I canât say why youâd be looking through the library, however, if it were the second option, all of these books need a certain level of understanding.â
The library was one of Falvianaâs least favorite places to be. She liked books of course, and studying was important to her as well, but the library was always just too quiet or too crowded. She preferred studying in places where she could actually investigate her surroundings or play her music loud. The whole static feeling of the library was almost uncomfortable to her. Falviana did enjoy the large collection of books, but she also preferred to read them outside the library, unless it was impossible, which sometimes was the case.Â
But she couldnât deny that being in the library wasnât useful because it was. There were more books there than there were in her collection. And sometimes research had to be done there rather than in other portions of the castle or castle grounds. Especially if the book was a book she wouldnât be allowed to take outside the library... or the restricted section. She put that research off until she absolutely hit a wall and couldnât think of another avenue to follow. Today was one of those days. Falviana had put off a lot of her research to explore the castle, but nearing the end of the year, she knew that she wasnât going to have much more time to utilize these books.Â
Her head was buried in a book as she walked towards the restricted section. Professor Binns had given her access to the section of the library at the beginning of the year that would expire at the end of the year. He knew what she was looking into and had always been her favorite staff member. He knew that she was a responsible student too and wasnât looking to use the books for anything other than research. She put the book she was reading down on a table and started looking at the books when she heard someone speak. Falviana jumped a bit and then looked up to see Tyler. Heâd always been a student that she didnât know very well, and since she wasnât a trouble maker -- usually -- she hadnât been punished by him or most prefects for that matter.Â
âIâm sorry!â she exclaimed, in a hushed whisper. âI was reading and didnât see the sign. But... uh, I can leave. Iâll just go... explore?â Falviana sighed. She didnât have much of the castle left to explore at this point, but she didnât want to get into trouble. âLook, I donât have anything else to do and Iâm just working on a little bit of personal research. I promise I wonât mess up whatever youâre working on or be loud or anything, I just really donât have anything else to do. And if you say no, Iâll leave, of course, but please donât.âÂ
