Evolution of Anne & Gilbert’s relationship over the years (insp)
“Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music, perhaps … perhaps … love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.” - L.M. Montgomery - Anne of Avonlea (1909)

nobody’s allowed to say they’ve never seen two pretty best friends again.
"Wow. To everyone who made this record with me thank you so much. This was the first song we wrote after my first album came out, during a day of in Nashville, and I just wanted to say thanks to Tom, Tyler and Mitch and everyone, Rob Stringer, and everyone at Columbia, my manager Jeffrey who has always nudged me to be better and never pushed me, and thank you so much. I feel very grateful to be here, thank you, all these songs are fucking massive so thank you so much. I feel very honored to be among all of you, so thank you so much. Thank you."

the reason I love Donna Tartt is that she can write The Goldfinch, a masterpiece about the loss of a loved one and coping with everything that's happened to you.
and then she can write The Secret History, where the main character does cocaine in a Burger King parking lot, and one of the characters doesn't know about the moon landing.
Okay I love TSH but like ???? how come nobody talks about the fact that joining the greek club was a huge mistake Richard made out of self-hatred. He is such a fill-in for your typical dark academia kid that I felt attacked while reading it. Ashamed of his own life and chronically discontent he seeks out an aesthetic farthest from what he's previously known. Then falls victim to the mentality that the reason he feels unlike his classmates isn't because of his lack of self worth but because he's better than them. He idolizes these elitist, isolationists. Then cruel reality slaps him in the face. He realizes that they're all super selfish and they're lack of care for the world extends to him. After Bunny's murder he realizes himself that there's not really anything wrong with the other kids at Hampden. He even says that he should be fortunate to know them. I know Trudy and the gang weren't without their issues, but my point still stands. Richard didn't need Julien's once in a lifetime opportunity, he needed someone to tell him that he was fine exactly the way he was.
bitches will read donna tartt and never shut up. i'm bitches.
Donna Tartt, in the last 100 pages of 'The Secret History':
“We don’t like to admit it, but the idea of losing control is one that fascinates controlled people such as ourselves more than almost anything. All truly civilised people—the ancients no less than us—have civilised themselves through the wilful representation of the old, animal self. Are we, in this room, really very different from the Greeks or the Romans? Obsessed with duty, piety, loyalty, sacrifice? All those things which are to modern tastes so chilling?”
