"rip india" at a protest isn't the own you think it is. it's a rhetorical way of saying "the country is in decline," not a literal wish for the country's destruction. if your definition of patriotism is "never say anything harsh about the nation," then congratulations, you've confused nationalism with blind loyalty. people don't march, get detained, or go on hunger strikes because they hate the country. they do it because they think it's capable of better.
