So when rewatching 11x19, I noticed a few things I hadn’t caught the first time around. In the middle of the episode where Emily is telling Rossi how her nightmare about not being able to save that detective is making her lose sleep, he tells her this:

Rossi tells Emily to surrender to the dream that she keeps having- it’s the only way to make it stop.

Right after he says this, she has the dream again on the plane, but this time it’s JJ she’s trying to save, and she’s apologizing over and over again that she couldn’t get there in time. 

She surrendered to what it meant, and finally saw JJ in the nightmare. 

Deep down, she’s terrified of losing JJ. Ever since the time JJ was kidnapped, she’s worried about not making it there in time to save her.

Coincidentally, Emily never has the dream again after that.
