I recently re-read @not-close-to-straight‘s thunderiron fic “Storms” and decided to stretch my fingers with some sketches (I have not touched a pencil since summer break and I regret that desicion)
You should really check not-close-to-straight’s fanfics, because they’re pure gold!
I have five unfinished and unposted fics on my computer and I decided to do something else, because fuck writer’s block
House's problem isn't that he lacks empathy. It's that he has too much. He cares to the point that it's self-destructive. That's why he avoids interacting with patients like the plague because he knows that he'll care. He knows that he'll get attached, and he can't cope with that kind of vulnerability. House can empathize with and understand people so well that if he didn't constantly fight against it, he'd lose himself. He insults people and hurts people, and pushes them away as a survival tactic. Nobody spends that much time trying to convince people they don't care when they actually don't care. He has experienced so much heartbreak and abuse that he's learned his only way to survive is to push people away. He's not just trying to convince others he doesn't care. He's trying to convince himself, too. And he fails every single time. Because Gregory House loves people. He relates to them, he cares about them, and he feels vast amounts of empathy for them. He never gives up on patients, and he'll try to convince you that it's just because he loves puzzles, and while he does, it also is because he cares. When you experience that much empathy for people, it saturates every single part of your life. Every interaction you have becomes painful and overstimulating. You start to lose yourself. House is desperately trying not to drown in the minds of others. His ability to understand and care about people is what makes him a great doctor, but it's a blessing and curse. So he bites and claws and avoids and fights because it's all he can do to stay afloat. He's trying to constantly battle experiencing the emotions of others, on top of his own emotions, all at the same time.
house md in 2020s headcanons
keep seeing people make these and i thought it was silly, so here’s my contributions:
- house finds wilson’s account on grindr and decides to catfish him. once the jig is up they silently decide to never acknowledge this again
- comphet cameron. nonnegotiable
- foreman has and posts somewhat frequently on instagram threads. nobody finds out because nobody else has threads
- before working at princeton-plainsboro taub specialized in BBLs
- house livestreams DDXs to put more pressure on the ducklings when he feels as though they’re underperforming. he has a decent amount of followers on twitch
- also i’m not sure how hospitals ran during the pandemic but i think at least one DDX during covid was conducted through among us. don’t ask me the logistics of that
- a few of chase’s old musical.ly videos resurface and he gets bullied for it relentlessly
- thirteen was one of the first people to reblog the weed smoking girlfriends post
- house and wilson watch love is blind, the ultimatum, love island, etc etc when skipping clinic duty & place bets on which couples are going to last and which aren’t
- despite dating at the time cuddy went to see oppenheimer and lucas went to see the barbie movie. at the same time in different theatres
- house makes a joke about someone having blue hair and pronouns. also that one post about how he spends two hours researching every pronoun in existence just to use the wrong one on someone would be real
- wilson listens to either broadway soundtracks on his way to work or hozier, no in between. he uses spotify but refuses to look at his wrapped out of fear
house in 2024
House installs 24/7 tracking apps on Wilson's phone. In return, Wilson books Ubers to take his phone and drive to various nefarious locations, sit there for half an hour, then come back home
Similarly, Wilson gets a smartwatch that monitors his heart rate. House gets updates sent to his phone and calls Wilson whenever his heart rate increases by more than 20 bpm to try and interrupt him jerking off
Kutner writes fanfic and replies to almost every comment he gets. His author's notes are full of things like "sorry this chapter is late, I accidentally gave myself a concussion trying to save a patient's life"
House posts on the Am I The Asshole subreddit but gets annoyed at everything thinking he's the asshole so he immediately deletes his account and pretends it never existed
Cuddy spends an hour of her day responding to the hospital's negative google reviews about "that rude doctor with the cane"
A young patient of Wilson's convinces him to be in a TikTok they're making, and he doesn't really know what that is but he agrees and ends up going semi-viral
Chase is secretly seething with jealousy over Wilson's accidental TikTok success, because Chase has been making thirst-trap videos in his scrubs for months with barely any views (it's because he's trying way too hard)
Thirteen gets really into Drag Race/the local drag scene and accidentally introduces House to gay slang, which he instantly adopts
If your husband actually signs the divorce papers you gave him you might just need to start an apocalypse about it…

A dynamic I'd like to see in the Throuple is Jayce being so innocently in love with Viktor and Mel that he fell knowing very little about either of them.
Ironically Mel and Viktor know more about each other than their partner Jayce. It's awkward. To save Jayce from embarrassing himself they interviene.
Viktor: "Those aren't her favorite flowers, Jayce!" "How would I - I ordered her flowers under Heimerdinger's name countless times!"
Mel: "A date in such a crowded area won't due. Did you forget dear? Viktor has terrible social anxiety."
Viktor: "Birthday? Don't try anything fancy. Have a night in. I don't know paint together or something. Trust me. There is nothing you could buy that she can't get herself!"
Mel: "You and Sky want to do a surprise party for Viktor? Well, if you maybe have clever party games he shouldn't be too annoyed with you. He may even enjoy himself. Set up clues and riddles. It could be like our academy days! Did you forget, Viktor and I graduated the same class? We were the two youngest. Our high marks helped us skip freshmen year."
Brian Quinn, known as “Q” in Impractical Jokers, is one ridiculously sexy daddy bear. He’s very playful which sometimes does not match his stern Staten Island accent. Which makes him even more sexy.
