Beautiful. They were astoundingly, breathtakingly beautiful. Robin doesn’t remember when he started to think like this.
He remembers well how he came to love their Summoner’s voice that was the first thing to hear when he arrived in Askr, lost once again and guided to the light by kinds words the Summoner said time and time again. Robin remembers how he came to love these hands that touched his shoulders in a soft, comforting way. He remembers how he loved their eyes the moment they met each other’s gazes. The eyes of a clever person he could look at time and time again-
“I think it was only a matter of time when you beat me, Summoner. You learn fast”, he said with a laugh, looking at the board. It was the first time he lost to anyone other than Virion in this game. But then again, Summoner was a clever clever person and he should’ve expected just as much.
They, however, weren’t so happy for some reason.
“Don’t try to laugh it off, Robin. I know you were distracted”, they pouted, looking at him with dissatisfied expression.
Robin found it rather cute, his smile growing wider.
“See? You notice even the smallest of things. I think it’s only fair to think you could see a loophole in my action and won using it to your benefit.”
“Distraction isn’t a loophole.”
“But it sure is. There’s few purely fair battles, Summoner. Sometimes using enemy’s distraction is the only way to win”, Robin wanted them to be happy about their win. After all, they deserved it - even if the Summoner didn’t know this, they successfully created that distraction themselves, bewithing him with their eyes and voice, turning his attention away from the game board.
But instead of a smile, they sighed.
“Weren’t you interested in our match today?”
Apparently, they needed another approach.
“No way”, he covered their hand with his, warm smile still on his lips. “You know what day today is, right? Why are you spending it with me, Summoner?”
“… because I like spending time with you.”
It was a sure hit. Robin couldn’t tell for sure but he could swear they gave a sheepish smile saying that.
He didn’t anticipate a counterattack.
“And you, Robin? Don’t you have friends you want to spend time with? I mean, your bonds are pretty strong, especially with-”
They stopped the moment his hand touched their face, caressing it gently.
“This is a day of Devotion, Summoner. I am truly thankful to you for everything you’ve done for me. For- for each time you’ve distracted me. You’ve shared with me just as much happy memories. Or, perhaps, even more”, now it was his time to gulp, to smile sheepishly as he took both of their hands in his. “This is why I want to devote myself to you. On this day, and many days that’ll come.”
