I don’t know about other survivors but yes rape does happen, but as a rape survivor, it’s really triggering and distasteful to read it... It’s a very touchy subject but writing/reading about a character overcoming trauma is VERY different than *insert character or celebrity here* saving you from the creepy man in the bar or alley.
