Honestly, Tvyek is pretty miraculous. It’s permeable to water vapor but not to water, it’s nearly impossible to tear, but can be easily cut. It’s cheap and made entirely without binding chemicals. In addition to being used for wristbands, it’s used to wrap construction sites to keep out water during construction, for tear-resistant envelopes at Fed-Ex, coveralls for mechanics, and my wallet, actually.
Fun tip, though it looks like paper, Tyvek is plastic, and cannot be recycled with paper.
i wish people would stop romanticizing not eating breakfast and not getting enough sleep and being dependent on coffee to function and always being in a bad mood and treating yourself poorly because that behavior is very unhealthy for you
(in honour of piper's fanon birthday and indigenous history month in canada (happy celebrations! stay safe ❤️))
2026 and more and more artists draw piper looking like spray tanned white girls en route to coachella again (i fully blame rick riordan, not the artists themselves). below the cut are a few tips on how to draw her respectfully (aka looking like a tsalagi/cherokee girl)
before we begin, i HEAVILY suggest reading this post. it contains a lot of helpful information on why and how piper herself is not accurate and/or good representation of and for native people in general and tsalagi/cherokee people specifically.
okay, here we go, the basics (some art tutorials on how to draw native people are linked to each topic for even further info):
NO feathers. NO hippie headbands (older fandom dwellers will remember this one)
hair: dark brown or black
eyes: brown or black (ignore the books pls)
skin: BROWN. not red, not orange. not grey-ish (i've been around for a long, long time)
as for face shapes, you can draw her with a rounder face and softer cheekbones/nose, it's not exactly mandatory to draw piper with super angular and sharp features
you basically want your pipers to look similar to these two examples i made using picrew:
(x) (x)
the references i used:
from art: tsalagi/cherokee women painted by tsalagi/cherokee artist sharon irla:
from real life: tsalagi/cherokee actresses (from left to right: elizabeth frances, jamie loy, nathalie tomasik)
okay, you've read all the way here and now you're itching to get drawing our best gal? great! buuuut before you do though, just a couple more things for you to take into consideration (it's important info, i swear):
has your piper art ever looked like any of these: x and/or x ? if so, it's definitely time to change that
some colour chart comparisons for easy visual aid: "colours ppl have used to draw piper vs colours i got from photos of native ppl"
do you like giving piper pretty accessories like jewelry? here (and read the tags too pls)
some of my personal favourite fanarts of all time 😍 (bc i love beauty and bc even more references):
first row: x x x
second row: x x x
third row: x x x
fourth row: x x x
i hope you've found this post helpful, i made it in the hopes that people will read all these older posts that have been lost to the fandom over time. and bc accurate and positive artwork of piper, in this case, and other characters of colour, in general, will always be important and necessary (and highly appreciated). and please never forget to listen to native/indigenous people when it comes to piper's representation ❤️
(for more info on representation as a whole in the pjo-verse see this post)
overweight silena beauregard is canon to ME because she has to pass as clarisse in armor and also. she can be fat and the most beautiful girl at camp half blood because the two are not mutually exclusive in the slightest bit and logically it's got to be canon. send post
that poll going around of the guy who thought "people only eat tofu as a bit because they're deranged vegans" or whatever really crystalizes something that i have never been able to precisely say - which is "a nonzero fraction of people who start picky-eater discourse just happen to precisely hate those foods which are not from north america and refuse to introspect on this whatsoever"
In contrast some people say "there aren't any picky eaters in Asia 🙄" but this is laughably untrue. I have a cousin in India who refused until his 20s to eat anything in a sauce. as you can imagine in India this was difficult. he basically had to pick things out of curry and wipe them dry
clarisse and percy are siblings in the way "i'll give you my kidney but i won't lend you my t-shirt" which means she caught him, so he wouldn't hurt himself but when he was safe, she dropped him on the ground and i respect it
“Fuck you” isn’t a real insult. “I hope one of your favorite book series gets turned into a tv show that blows up and the main actor of the show becomes extremely popular but because he is conventionally attractive and since you are a teenage girl everyone automatically assumes that you only like the series because you think the actor is hot” is realistic. It’s terrifying. It happened to me
