Summary:

Harry makes three rules to survive fourth year: 1) watch the new DADA professor like a hawk, 2) suspect all animals of being animagi, and 3) avoid Cedric Diggory at all costs. Shame Diggory didn't get the memo.

For a tumblr prompt by johnlocked-starkid: maybe a Harry/Cedric thing where the Triwizard Cup isn’t a portkey and Voldemort doesn’t happen, and instead they just win together and are happy and celebrate together. (bonus points for shy confessions of a crush from one or the other)

My Take:

I love this. It's lighthearted and fun, and I just adore Cedric and Harry.

Also, the puns are truly impressive.

Summary:

Marinette's fingers are starting to bleed.

She's been sewing for hours and hours. She's covered in chalk and pin-pricks. Her hands are cramping and her eyes are dry. She only stopped to eat when Tikki held a pastry in front of her face. The day had long ago turned to night.

But she's finishing this dress.

My Take:

A really cute fic to pass the time. I really enjoyed Adrien/Chat in this one. It's very sweet.

Summary:

"Adrien watched as Marinette let loose what could only be described as a roar, a shout of frustration, and stomped to the door. Marinette wrenched it open and slammed it shut with both hands, the door rattling violently in it’s frame. The class was blown away by the outburst and by the tiny girl’s strength, watching through the windows as she stormed down the halls.

“What a drama queen.” Chloe had stopped crying and tossed her head."

In which Chloé Bourgeois is alarmingly talented at creating akumas and Marinette is pushed too far.

My Take:

Here's one of the "Marinette gets acumatized" pieces that I adore.

One of the things I really love about it is the fact that it's so sweet. The writer, instead of going the comic or extreme angst route like many would, manages these moments of real feeling and empathy. It's really touching, and I love it.

Summary:

Thirty-six hours of no sleep and sixteen akuma battles later, both Marinette and Adrien are dead on their feet- the former much more loopy whilst the latter a lot more talkative and perhaps grouchy. Next, put them in the same room as Lila who's now claiming that Marinette was akumatised- wait...

WHAT!?

Angry Adrien + Melodramatic Marinette + Lying Lila = Chaos.

My Take:

Total crack with a side of giving Lila her just desserts. It's amazing.

Hat Full of Glass

Fandom: Batman - All Media Types, Young Justice (Cartoon), Nightwing (Comics)

Summary:

Dick's injured one night on patrol, which is no big deal. Sure, his face is a little burnt, but it's not like anything serious happened-- so why is everyone acting like it has? Faced with a concussion and mandatory rest, he has a lot of time to think, and that's never good for someone in their line of business.

OR: An injury threatens to scar Dick's face, and it brings up a lot of things in him, things he hadn't realized were even there. The Batfamily acts and reacts.

My Take:

This is one of my favorite series. It really heavily deals with consent, and frankly, Dick's lack of consent. It approaches it in such an interesting and heart-wrenching way that I go through a range of emotions every time I read it.

Genuinely, it's a beautiful piece, and I love it a lot.

Summary:

Harry Potter spent his eleventh birthday in a cabin on a tiny rock in the middle of the sea, listening to his cousin snore on the couch.

When a knock sounded on the wind-swept, rain-drenched door, it was not a giant fist (or a half-giant's fist). It was a short sharp rap that sounded once, twice, three times before Minerva McGonagall simply charmed the lock open and stepped inside.

"Apologies," Minerva said crisply, as Vernon raced out brandishing his rifle and Petunia pulled Dudley up off the couch and behind her. "I wasn't sure you could hear me over the weather.” The rain fell down behind the professor in a roar. She was perfectly dry.

Minerva fished in her pocket without looking, because the only things allowed in her pockets were only ever exactly what she needed. “I've come to deliver this," she said, pulling out a letter and handing it to Harry, who was cross-legged on the floor, "because our owl post seems to have been unable to get through.”

“And I've come to deliver this," she added, pulling out a second letter, "because Hogwarts by-laws require a professor to hand-deliver acceptance letters to Muggleborn families for their explanation and comfort."

My Take:

Glorious.

I really love this fic. It really follows Dudley's growth as a person and a wizard, and I love the style. It feels both similar to the source material and like moments in the life.

Frankly, reading it the first time, I teared up on the last scene. I can't explain why, but this one really got me.

Summary:

Six years ago, without the Avengers Initiative there to save the day, scientist Dr. Eric Selvig sacrificed himself to save the world, the almighty demi-god Thor was lost to a terrible storm, and vigilante Iron Man – spotted with a nuclear weapon trying to take advantage of the situation – was forever labelled an enemy of SHIELD.

This is a comic book office AU, where Steve is defrosted a year too late, Thor has forgotten who he is, and no one knows Tony is Iron Man.

Also includes: office pranks, inappropriate post-it notes, and superheroes who like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.

My Take:

My favorite Avengers fic. Just my absolute favorite thing.

First of all, it's so fun. It's got a lot of joy and shenanigans that overlap these really deep and emotional moments. It never gets so deep that you get bogged down, but it's still enough to satisfy the need for angst and introspection for me.

Also it's a very clever AU. The use of comics is really fun, and I just adore the workplace set up.

Cap is also just adorable in this.

From the deepest part of my soul, I beg you to read this and complement the author.

I really love this one. It's a really interesting AU with both angst and a unique twist. Great piece!

Allow One to 'See'

Summary:

When the King is attacked in his tent on patrol and falls into an unending sleep everyone is worried. What they don't know is that Arthur is fine. In fact he is standing right here next to them, watching them all fret over his prone body. To stave off the boredom whilst a cure is found Arthur takes to wandering the castle and soon discovered a hidden side of Camelot he never knew about.

Or: Arthur's soul gets trapped outside his body and takes to following his servant around. He gets an interesting insight into Merlin, his servant's life and just how much Camelot needs the man.

My Take:

Genuinely, such a fun fic. I love the way it tackles Arthur's friendship with Merlin and the way Arthur becomes privy to Merlin's private moments and struggles.

It also has one of the most unique magic reveals. It's both simple and so crazy. The first time I read it, I was both shocked and so immersed that I think I actually gasped out loud.

I just adore this fic.

Code Icarus

Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel, The Avengers (Marvel Movies)

Summary:

Steve Rogers hates falling, but he hates being caught even more.

My Take:

One of my favorite Steve/Tony fics.

I simply love the idea behind not only the code but the way the author handled the team's interactions. I really adore Steve in this one, per usual, but they also do an amazing job with Tony.

Natasha is also superb, and I really enjoy how she fit into this fanfiction.

All in all, this is a great fic. Perfect length, great writing, great characterization - truly enjoyable.

Genuinely, I hope this author got a lot of love.

Shawn Walks Into A Bank

Summary:

Gus was always hounding Shawn for not taking Psych checks to the bank and being "responsible." So it's just Shawn's luck that the one time he goes... so does a crazy gunman.

My Take:

This is a really intense piece, and it's one of the works that includes an OC that I like. Honestly, this fic more than deserves its place on my blog.

Also, Shawn whump and angst are always fun.

My Take:

This is a fic that I loved way back in the day and never quite let go of. Genuinely, I just adore everything about it. The AU is really interesting.

However, the last time it was updated was in 2014.

It kinda hurts putting it up on this page, but sometimes you do it for that tiny sliver of hope.

OR: An absolute mad lad kidnaps Dick in Bruce's car, Jason has to come save him.

My Take:

This is a good read to pass the time. It's both fun and has some sweet interactions between Dick and Jason that don't go out of character. I really enjoyed it.

Baby Steps

Summary:

Shawn and Gus were celebrating the opening of a new nightclub near Shawn’s apartment. The night was turning enjoyable, drinks were reasonably priced, the music was deafening but danceable and with a magnificent feat of wingwomanship, Shawn had found Gus a girl. A true miracle indeed.

Not to sound smug, but this had been a brilliant idea on Shawn’s part.

But then Shawn wakes up in an alley early the next morning, covered in cuts and bruises, miles away from the club and her apartment, with no memory as to how she got there.

And Shawn is scared.

For the first time Shawn finds herself on the other side of the thin blue line, not as a suspect, but as a victim.

And Shawn thinks she preferred being the suspect.

My Take:

This is a fun fem!Shawn piece that I really enjoyed. It deals with some anxieties that may be triggering for sexual assault victims, but I thought this author handled the subject quite well.

I really enjoyed this one. Shawn doesn't feel like a whole different person. She feels like Shawn is the same person, and I really appreciate that. Many fics make the character change majorly and live according to stereotypes once a gender change occurs.

Not this one.

I suggest it. :)

you're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece

Then things went sour, and really, Dick should have seen it coming. He has always known, in the back of his mind, that Slade’s interest in him is not strictly platonic."

OR: Dick is not doing well. Slade takes avantage. Rose doesn't know how to help.

My Take:

This is a piece that can be triggering. I skipped the sex scenes, so I'm not sure, but keep in mind that it's about an abusive situation.

Regardless, I really love the premise, and I'm very interested in seeing where it goes.

Summary:

My Take:

I usually don't read anything that takes place after Age of Ultron, but boy, oh, boy is this worth it.

I promise you that this is the best fix-it fic for after the Civil War film, because it doesn't fix it. It deals with it. That's the joy of these pieces. They're about bridging the gap, and I just adore that.

Also this one gets me right in the feels. The writer is really good at doing their writing thing.
