Dick is a low key hoarder. He sees something shiny, he picks it up. It’s his inner bird nature. It’s really unexpected of him though. No one would see his struggles because he hid it so well. You go to his room? Spotless. His place in Bludhaven? Clean.
Where does he hoard it all?
One of Jason’s safe houses that Jason had forgotten about.
So when Jason was doing some ‘shady crime lord business’ and needed a place to hang low he suddenly thought of a place in the area that he was pretty sure he stopped paying the bills on. Either way he headed there.
Pleasantly, the code worked and he got in… half a foot past the door.
Junk, as far as the eye can see which wasn’t far. And it wasn’t just random things like bike parts or newspapers, no, it was their stuff. Dicks, Tim’s, Damian’s, Bruce’s, even his! Someone had been taking their things and had the gull to put it in his safe house!
Who in their right mind would do that? They obviously weren’t!
Grumbling, Jason began climbing over knee high mounds of objects. As he got into the living room he saw an organized pile forming a circle around a chair. It seemed to be pictures. Hundreds of them. And they were Tim’s old pictures he had just thrown out!
Was it their trash man?! Was the bastard stealing their trash? Was he selling it? Oh, was Jason going to give him the what for-
A foot met his gut sending him sideways into a stash of Damian ‘s old animal plushies. Jason groaned as he rose. The power of the kick, how it was done and where it landed added with the size of the small foot; he knew who it was right away.
“Dick!” He yelled.
“I am not a dick!”
Jason snapped around growling; saw his older brother in grey sweats with the band rolled half a dozen times and one of HIS old torn shirts. It even had a washed blood stain that wouldn’t come out.
“Dick!” He boomed.
Dick froze as he realized the intruder was not a thief but in fact his brother finally returning to his own place. His worse fear coming to fruition.
“Ahhh… no?”
“What,” Jason stumbled to his feet in angry frustration.
He signaled the pictures, stuffed animals, piles of clothes… his eyes landed on warped metal and snapped his head back to Dick.
“Is that my old bike?”
Dick glanced away, “no.”
“How’d you even get it up here?”
“I’m a Robin, Jason, if I couldn’t at least do that?Seriously?”
Well, true, but that wasn’t the point.
“What is all this junk? More importantly, why in my place?”
Dick twiddled his thumbs.
“I like to collect.”
“I can see that!” Jason agreed.
“Stop yelling at me!”
Jason rubbed his face in stress.
“Why my place?”
“Because no one would know.”
No one would know. Well. Jason knew now. He knew very much so because he’d just been kicked into a pile of musty stuffed animals that’d been deep into a trash can.
“Dick.”
Dick squeaked as he sensed it coming.
“No.”
“Dick.”
“You can’t!”
Jason folded his arms as Dick was desperately pleading.
“Anything but that! They won’t understand.”
“You have to get rid of everything. Now.”
Dick fell to his knees sobbing. Began to sweep up the pictures in a big hug which sort of made Jason feel a little guilty. Maybe they could keep this between them-
“No!” He wailed, “they won’t understand! They won’t get why I am throwing them away! The toys Jason! The poor toys!”
And he’s lost it. Probably seen Toy Story one too many times. Dick held a picture up of his brothers.
“My brothers. They won’t understand why I’m throwing them away. I really liked these ones a lot, so much cuter.”
Jason grit his teeth then. Yeah. He’s definitely throwing everything away.
——
“Wow,” Damian acknowledged as he watched Dick cling to Bruce, fighting him over tossing a trash bag into a bin, Tim trying to yank him back at his waist, “wouldn’t have guessed.”
Jason gave a nod. They watched Alfred come up and spray Dick with Lysol sending him running.
“You should probably go check all of your safe houses,” Jason muttered.

When you first met Dick, he seemed like the kind of guy who wouldn’t be clingy.
Oh boy, were you wrong.
You met in high school and quickly became friends you were like two peas in a pod. And worked well together, in every assignment you would team up and try to get the best grades possible.
This much didn’t change, even now that you two are adults.
The development in your relationship came in waves, steady and expected.
The first instant was in your last year in high school. It was a rainy afternoon, and you two were studying together for a history exam. The rain was thrumming steadily against the old windows of Wayne Manor, and the fireplace was warming the room you were in.
Dick and you were talking and gossiping about what was going on more than studying.
“I don’t understand why he is always following you like a dog,” he says while mindlessly taking a bite of one of the cookies Alfred made. He was talking about a boy in one of your AP classes who always wanted to partner up with you. Regardless of if Dick was there or not. And if Dick would be honest with himself, it bothered him a lot that there was another who sought your attention.
You sigh. “Well, I don’t mind, at least he is pretty, and besides that, he is nice actually…” As you said that, your cheeks start burning up and you look to the side.
Dick can’t help but look at you in shock. The thought that he wouldn’t be your number one anymore scared him more than anything.
“Well, I guess you don’t want any of Alfred’s cookies then anymore,” he says with a pout on his face, taking the cookie plate into his lap.
You just look at him and smile. As Dick turns his face back to you, the soft sunlight, which filters through the rain, illuminates your face. And somehow, deep inside, Dick knows he is screwed.
Gladly for Dick, you and that boy never got together. And sure, there were boys who tried, but you’ve always said that they could never satisfy your soul.
So now here you were, you on your fire escape in your pajamas, and he before you in his Robin costume.
The day before graduation, the day before everything would change. Not only in your life but also your friendship.
To say Dick was scared was an understatement. He wasn’t scared to attend university, but rather that he couldn’t see you as much as he wanted to.
Yeah, he has his friends, the Titans, Bruce, and all the others. But it would be a lie to say that since you came into his life, his life didn’t feel brighter, warmer, more like home.
He told himself he would never get you and his nightlife affiliated, but somehow it happened. But he didn’t say anything, too scared to tell you, too scared of your reaction, too scared to lose you.
But it was inevitable.
So here he was now, with you.
You didn’t look him in the eyes; you always did that either when you were nervous, hurt, or angry.
And right now, you were all of the above.
He didn’t know how it happened and why it had to be tonight. It was supposed to be a simple mission with Bruce: get in and out. But there was an ambush and he got hurt. Bruce told him to get out and straight to the mansion, that he would handle this.
Dick tried, really tried, to get to the mansion, but he lost too much blood and your house was the nearest.
And he knew how to. Easily, your room is reachable because of the fire escape. After all, Robin would visit you there at least once a week.
So that is how he got to you. You were doing something on your computer. His first thought that came to mind was how you still looked so beautiful, even with the stress of tomorrow’s event.
You spotted him quickly and gasped.
“Robin, what happened? Seriously, you should go to a doctor,” you said while helping him to lean against you and taking him inside your room.
“Don’t worry, I just need to catch my breath for a second and I will be gone.” His tone was playful, but you could hear the pain through it.
In that moment, you were reminded that he was also just a kid, a kid as old as you, fighting almost every night against wanted criminals.
As you thought about that, tears came to your eyes.
You caught yourself quite quickly and assessed him; he had a cut right above his left eye.
“These cuts need to be disinfected. I have something for that, just give me a minute,” you say softly, going into your bathroom to get the small bottle of disinfectant that he knew would stand on your shelf.
He was in your room a lot of times, but never as Robin, always as Dick.
It felt wrong to be here without you knowing who he is under the mask.
You would surely call him dumb for doing this, all of this.
But in that moment, in that instant, the urge to tell you who he is became so great he took off his mask before you came back.
To say he never thought of that would be a lie. He thought about it at least once every week. How nice it would be to just share this burden with you, to not keep a secret from you. To let you know what he really is, who he really is.
His hands were shaking as he held the mask in his hands, and when you came back, you didn’t directly look at him. But when you did, he knew either this was the right decision or the worst decision of his life.
The disinfectant fell from your hands, and you just stood there looking not moving or saying anything.
“Dick, please don’t tell me that is you.” He expected anything but not this.
“It is me. I thought you should know.” He wanted to say more, to say how sorry he is that he didn’t tell you sooner, and you don’t need to worry that he knows how to fight.
But he didn’t get to say that. You were charging at him with a hug he wasn’t expecting.
The moon was bringing out your eyes in a way he didn’t think possible. Were they always so shiny?
“Does Bruce know?” you ask, and he wanted to laugh. If it weren’t for the worry in your eyes, the only thing he can do is nod.
“I don’t care what you say, but I will call him right now and say that he should come pick you up. You’re hurt.” Dick can hear your voice cracking. Maybe it is because you’re disappointed in him.
He can hear your call with Bruce, and he knows he is in trouble from the voice Bruce uses. The call ends. “He said we should wait on the fire escape. Come.” Your voice is sounding so small that it nearly breaks him.
You help him to get up and move to the fire escape.
He lets himself slide down a wall to sit, and you decide to sit directly opposite him.
His eyes watching, yours avoiding.
He hears it, but it’s barely a sound. “I’m not mad, if that is what you think. I was just scared for a second.” A stone falls from his chest he didn’t know he was carrying. “It’s just I worry about you, about us, now knowing this. I am just so confused.”
He listens. It is the least he can do, and now that he is sure he can answer, his words fail him.
“I didn’t mean to keep this from you. I- I didn’t even want you to get to know me as Robin. It just happened. And it wasn’t because, well, because it’s one of my rules. I do want you to know me, all of me, as you’ve let me get to know all of you.”
As you look at the boy you love, your best friend, you can see shame. Shame because he kept this from you. Shame because you shouldn’t have known Robin even in the first place.
“Dick, I- I also have something to tell you.”
As you say this, you think, now or never, and you know if you don’t do this now, it will never happen.
But then there is a dark and raspy voice calling him, but not by his real name.
And you know it’s him, the Dark Knight.
Dick and you share a look, and you both know you will talk about this.
When, you don’t know, but it will happen.
And you talked. Not the next day, or the next month.
But almost three years later.
Not because you didn’t see each other regularly, quite the opposite. But it was never the right time, right moment, right everything.
Dick thinks maybe it is today. You hold your monthly sleepover, which was established shortly after he moved to Blüdhaven.
He watched you as you were getting ready for the night, in one of his sweats and shirts. Leaning against the doorframe, he watched you brush your teeth, a lazy grin on his face.
You see him in the mirror. “What? Do I have something on my face?” you ask sarcastically. You know the toothpaste in the corner of your mouth is there.
He pouts. “What? Can’t I just watch you? Why are you always so mean to me?” he says while coming to your side.
“Well, somebody has to humble you, and who else is going to do that than me?” He loves you like this, sarcastic, in his flat with his clothes on.
“I missed you,” he says, catching you off guard. You lean against his shoulder, and his heart flutters.
“I missed you too.” He looks down at you, but your eyes are already there looking back. The small toothpaste stain on the corner of your lips still present. He can feel the pull between you two. It has always been like this, magnetic.
Sadly, the moment passes, with Dick getting called by Bruce and moving to the living room, him just asking if he is alright. Nothing special. But for Dick?
The call was a waste of time.
He is on his way back to the bathroom when you come out of it already. Face freshly washed, small water droplets still clinging to the hairs where your hairline begins.
“Can we talk?” he asks, and your heart skips a beat. Is this the moment where he says he found someone? That you’re going to lose him? You’re not ready for this, but when will you ever be.
“Sure.” You try to keep your voice steady, while Dick tries to conceal he isn’t sweating like a waterfall.
He coughs shortly. “Um, so there is something I want, no, need to talk to you about.” You nod to show him it’s okay and that you’re listening, and also so he doesn’t hear your voice giving out.
“I- , well I- oh man, this is hard. What I mean to say is, well, I like you. Well, not like you, but like, like-like you. Like, I like you more than a friend. And that for a while now. You remember the night of graduation, where you found out. you know, my secret persona. There was so much else I wanted to say but I didn’t know how. And I knew you also wanted to say something, and Bruce interrupted us. And then we didn’t have the chance, and there was never a good time and- ”
Before he can keep rambling, you stop him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you, Richard, for making the first step. Oh, and also, I like-like you too.”
He doesn’t even realize what you just said and just blinks at you.
“Wait, what? Does that mean, wait, are you serious?” He breaks out into a wide smile, a smile you’ve only seen him have when he was flying in the sky.
You nod. “Oh man, this- , whoa-, this is just amazing. So um, do you, like, wanna go out?” He looks so serious while saying this.
“That this is even a question,” you say and hug him. “Of course I will go out with you.” You can feel the pout without even seeing it on his face. “Well, I just wanted to make sure.”
To ease his mind, you place a small, delicate kiss on his cheek. And this silences him.
Till it doesn’t. “You realize you will not have any calm from me,” he says while his arms encircle your shoulder to keep you close.
“Trust me, I don’t mind.”
And you know he means it. But you have never minded Dick, and never will.
Because he was your own personal light, even if he didn’t know it.
I was thinking about the first time I watched the bronze and especially THE scene and thought, "Seriously, who would be able to pull off such crazy positions?"
Dick grayson. Richard John Grayson. He absolutely would.
Guys Im craving for fics where Dick's Robin and his teammates, whether it's set up with the Titans or YJ - it's up to u-, remember that Dick's the youngest of all of them and yet the most experienced with the business
Or in general that, God, he's just a child. Why does he know how to do certain things? Like, idk, stitching himself up after a mission ( ex: this fic ) or I remember I read another one -that I loved but I can't for my life find it- where the team (YJ) were on a mission, but KF and Robin were the ones who saw what happened to the victims and it was completely awful. The victims (now corpses) were tortured and it was a bit explicit what happened to them, and like, if you are a kid, fuck- you shouldn't see that shit. KF threw up and couldn't see anymore of it, Robin felt that analyzing the case or images of what happened to them was his responsibility. He tries to compartmentalize what's going on and how he's feeling, and basically at the end the team's looking at him with something he can't name but it's the same look Bruce or Alfred sometimes would give him too. AGH SUCH AN AMAZING CONCEPT, I'm tweaking dawg
Also, It's not really the trope I'm talking about, but I also love this kind of fic so... If you have some that are like that as well.... I'd love to read them.....

The story behind these lines from There’s a Bird in the Alleyway
“[T]he working girls who saved your life said you’ve done some stuff to help them out. Your gentlemanly ways are impressing them.”
“I don’t know if punching a creep in the face counts as being gentlemanly.”
Or, Nightwing accidentally earns the trust of Bludhaven's working girls by being “polite and smiley.”
