Brush-tailed Mulgara Dasycercus blythi

A carnivorous Australian marsupial found in the western arid zones of the continent. It digs burrows as deep as half a meter, providing protection from the extremes of climate. They are an opportunistic carnivore eating a wide range of invertebrates, frogs, reptiles, and small mammals. Beetles are one of the most common food source.

Lesser Dawn Bat Eonycteris spelaea

Also known as the cave nectar bat, it is found in primary forests and in disturbed and agricultural areas. It roosts in caves, in larger groups, with some roosts exceeding 50,000 individuals, and it sometimes roosts with other bat species. In some places, this species seems to have adapted well to leafy, semi-urban habitats. It is a very important pollinator of fruit trees, such as durians, and other commercially important crops such as banana and jackfruit.

Marsh Deer Blastocerus dichotomus

Formerly found in much of tropical and subtropical South America, today it is largely reduced to isolated populations at marsh and lagoon zones in the Paraná, Paraguay, Araguaia and Guapore river basins. They are swift swimmers. The marshes with their high vegetation density protect them from predators and provide them with food. The majority of their diet is aquatic plants.

Three-striped Palm Squirrel Funambulus palmarum

It is found in India (south of the Vindhyas) and Sri Lanka. They are fairly vocal, with a cry that sounds like "chip chip chip" when danger is present. They are opportunists in urban areas, and can be easily tamed and trained to accept food from humans.

In Hindu legend, during the construction of the Rama Setu (bridge) at Rameswaram by Sri Rama and the monkey army, a little squirrel also contributed in its own little way. It rolled in the beach sand and then ran to the end of the bridge to shake off the sand from its back. Sri Rama, pleased by the creature's dedication, caressed the squirrel's back and ever since, the Indian squirrel carried white stripes on its back, which are believed to be the mark of Rama's fingers.

Kit Fox Vulpes macrotis

A fox species that inhabits arid and semi-arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern and central Mexico. Kit foxes are mostly nocturnal; they escape heat stress during the day by resting in underground dens. Pups emerge from the den at about one month of age and spend several hours each day playing outside the entrance. The male seems to do most of the hunting during this period, and later, both parents provide food until the pups start to forage with them at three to four months of age.
