@fantasy-world-expansion-notes
This blog is going to be just basically a notebook for my thoughts and ideas on a fantasy world, focusing on creating the entire world.
I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
In my world, magic is actually used by some animals as it's a glyph based system. Dragons are most common, used to defend and hide their nests and burrows, but some more intelligent birds can also use it if they've seen it, it's not intrinsic after all except to the dragons who were the first to develop the actual glyphs by virtue of being around for the longest time, literally from before the planet cooled to where other life can exist.
The process of getting to actually doing the research, combined with planning things out for this project, and trying to figure out a cohesive process for how and what to post really is extensive, I'm gaining a whole new respect for authors starting from scratch, which is also inspiring me to keep at it.
Even if it's hard, I'm doing it myself, I'm not taking shortcuts, I'm not taking the easy way out. I'm using my brain, I'm using my resources, I'm doing things I want to do while I have the years ahead of me to do them, and I'm proud of myself for doing it.
So, I've been changing how the world of Frexia works after chatting more with one friend of mine on discord.
Instead of the world being divided in half with two nearly identical setups of ringed continents around a central island, there will be several ringed continent sets, created by the dragons that hatched in the early planet life, before it even truly cooled down. The eggs having been deposited through meteoric impacts from another planet in the system breaking apart.
As these dragons explored the still semi-solid world of Frexia, they carved great gouges through what would become the tectonic plates and upper crust that would form the land, using the heat and mineral content to grow larger and larger.
Eventually they would die from simple old age and inability to eat enough to sustain themselves, after laying their own eggs on the world that had cooled somewhat faster than would be expected. Their offspring would continue this pattern as their parents bodies deteriorated and decomposed, still providing for their children by being eaten.
These dragons spread through the whole of the planet, into the cooling crust and mantle, as their bodies broke down and decomposed they became one with the world, forming the central islands of the continental rings by their skull crowns, and mountain ranges with the frill of horns around them.
So I've built up a map for half of my planet, named Frexia.
The large central island is the main trade hub for the world, as well as being a neutral ground area, the largest city on the island is home to a full garrison each of soldiers from all six races, so as to promote diversity and unity. There will be one on the other half of the planet as well.
The ringed continents are home to the various races:
Humans
Dwarves
Elves
Centaurs
Lamias
Driders
These races are spread throughout Frexia. Lamias are found commonly in warm, sandy areas, while elves are found in forests and plains, and so on.
Ok so. First things first, this is the first time I'm really getting into worldbuilding from the literal ground up.
I am building not just the world itself, as in the planet, but the entire cosmology and magic systems of my world, even though I only started this as an idea to create a society of centaurs.
Pantheon: 9/9 main deities have a main domain
These domains are Life, Death, War, Oceans, Harvest, Hunt, Music, Forging, and Darkness and Light
Pantheon: 9/9 main deities have names
These names are: Paptet, Tapet, Azleyah, Azrapt, Oltera, Preytus, Trithaya, Hastrith, and Osthreus respective to their listed domains above
The basic planetary construction is done
A large planet, three times the size of Earth, with a single ring and two moons.
The Continental structure is in the formation of large rings radiating out from a central island on either side of the planet.
A large mountain range forms at the intersection of two portions of the largest ringed continent tectonic plates, all but blocking a large portion of travel between halves of the planet.
On the central island in either half of the planet is a massive tradehub city.
Transportation is achieved through a combination of air, water, and ground, with the majority being water based travel through a network of rivers and other waterways that cover each ring in the Continental structure.
I have the name of one historical figure, the progenitor of the centaur race
I have the backstory for how he became the progenitor of the centaur race
I have somewhat created identities behind a few of the deities of this planets Pantheon
I have named the planet, Frexia
I am now in need of assistance in continuing my work on this. I have found a pretty neat program for it if any of you are interested in watching as things change with my project it will be linked here as a viewing option.
Though if you wish to collaborate on it and put down ideas on the internal notepad, or ask further questions, please message me about it and I'll tell you how that works.
