Battle Royale by Koushun Takami

Translated into English, originally made in Japan.

Junior high school students go on a field trip, they find out that the only out is to kill until one person is left. A deserted island, given arms.. it's claimed to be like the 21st century Lord of the Flies. 

This sounds amazing, and I give far warning, just from reading the reviews, if you have a weak stomach, the gory scenes (I'm assuming there's more than just a little) may not be for you. Characters are skipped between throughout the book, so instead of just following one character around, you get to waddle behind possibly all of them. It's like Lord of the Flies in the sense that after a while, I assume (from the reviews) that they all start to go a little crazy.

Sounds close to perfect!

Born At Midnight by C.C. Hunter

Ooo okay this is the first one with creatures okay. Found the information from here. 

Okay so poor little Kylie hasn't had the easy life for a while. Just when everything is at its worse, she discovers she has a stalker... that nobody else can see. Triggered by this not so normal behavior, her parents send her to a psychologist who sends her to Shadow Falls Camp. A suspected troubled-teen camp turns out to be a camp for vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches and shape-shifters. Apparently, she's one of them, and if this wasn't enough, she's got a little fan club falling in love with her (not really a fan club, in case those who read it say I'm giving false information). 

While trying to deal with all of this new information, going against everything she was taught and everything she believed, Kylie has to find herself, and the truth. 

It sounds good, and for those romance cravers, I'm sure there's probably a lot in there for you to chew on. And don't forget the creatures, and a ton of character diversity.

Daughters of the Moon by Lynne Ewing

Another great series, nice and long, but the books are short and easy.

While each book seems to follow the same pattern, the juicy parts of every story never repeat. Four girls (eventually five) are daughters of the goddess, Selene. Each of them has a certain power, and when they reach eighteen, they can either choose a life of a mortal, or go into something greater. Thing is, if they decide to be totally normal, no powers, they have no memory of their divinity. 

Sounds boring? Well, enter The Atrox. Completely evil, and he even has followers. So the girls are up against that. It may sound simple, but oh boy does Ewing make it intricate. 

Romance, fantasy, maybe a bit of mystery? Easy reading, but you'll hopefully enjoy it. I think there are 13 books in the series. This is a nice author, and she writes many other fantasy novels.

The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.

Okay so I looked this trilogy up to find out more about it, because I've never heard about it before, and it sounds reaaally interesting.

The second idea was to write a story about a world where the good guys lost. I wanted to take the standard fantasy story I'd read a dozen times�that of a young peasant hero who went on a quest to defeat a Dark Lord�and turn it on its head. What if the Dark Lord won? What if, in the final climactic moments, he killed the hero and took over the world?

 Hence, MISTBORN. A thousand years ago, the prophesied hero from lore rose up to overthrow a great and terrible evil. Only, he lost, and the Dark Lord took over and has been ruling with an iron fist for a thousand years. Ash falls from the sky in this barren land, and mists come every night, deep and mysterious. In this setting, a gang of thieves decides that the prophecies were all lies and that they can't trust in some fabled hero to save them. They decide to take matters into their own hands, and plan a daring heist of the dark lord himself, planning to use the emperor's own wealth to bribe his armies away from him and take over the empire.

 Anyway, that's the 'back of the book' movie trailer type explanation. If I talk about it more conversationally, however, the plot takes a back seat to characters. The truth is that while MISTBORN grew out of my love for heist movies, it didn't end up being much of a heist story itself. As early as the planning stages of the series, I felt that I wanted both more scope from the plot and more focus on character.

 During development, the story moved further and further away from the heist. It's still there�don't worry�but it's more of a backdrop now. Instead, the book focuses on Vin, a young a young girl who gets recruited into the team. Beaten down by a life on the streets, Vin doesn't realize that she has the power of a Mistborn (the magic in this book, which many say is its prime selling point.) Her dynamic with Kelsier, the charismatic leader of the gang of thieves, is really what drives this novel.

 The book has a little of everything for everyone. Romance, lots of action, a wiz-bang cool magic system, dark lords running amok, great visuals, and character tension. And that's just book one.

Another interesting series, which is probably well-known do to the not-so-good movie..

Percy Jackson series.

I never finished the series, because I forgot to.... but it was pretty interesting. If Greek Mythology is your thing, you're sure to be swept into the story quickly. But hey, if it isn't, it is still excellent and you're sure to be swept in in no time. Conflict, action, and from the parts that I DID read, just a hint of romance. I'm sure that grows, but. It was a good series, from what I did read.

Books I've read with a great storyline.

These are, of course, falling in with the fantasy genre. It's a small list, but it'll grow.

The Uglies Trilogy (plus Extras) by Scott Westerfeld. This is far after our era has ended. In this society, on their sixteenth birthday, teenagers go through an operation to become a Pretty. They live their whole lives waiting for this operation, just a few days of pain for a lifetime of beauty. Well... not a lifetime, one has a few more operations after that one to age properly, but still. The trick? You're ditsy and all you care about is partying. That's not too bad, right? Well tell that to Shay. She isn't too enthusiastic about the operation, which is alarming to her new best friend, Tally Youngblood. So. Shay runs away. Tally must find Shay to get her own operation, the thing she's been looking forward to for months, years. It isn't THAT easy to find Shay and bring her back, no no no. That wouldn't make the book fun to read. The trilogy goes on with the troubles of this society and rebellions. I recommend it to anyone, it's a beautiful series.

The Midnighters series by Scott Westerfeld If you're born exactly at 12:00 am, you have a special gift awaiting you once you arrive at Bixby, Oklahoma. No, it's not the water that makes the place weird, it's you. Jessica first moves there with her family, to find that, right when the clock hits midnight, everything, everyone freezes. It's called The Secret Hour. The only people that get this secret hour are Jessica, Rex, Melissa, and Dess. This secret hour isn't just for getting that extra homework done and not losing any sleep, oh no. There are the darklings. They are haunting these four(maybe more (; ), and even bigger problems are coming, but you have to read it to find out more. Such a great escapist novel, you change your way at looking at things, you try and find patterns with the number 13 (I was counting letters in words for months), it's amazing. 

Harry Potter series by JK Rowling I don't even think this needs a description.

The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins  This is the most amazing series ever. It's captivating, it's fast. The country of Panem has 12 districts, and then the Capitol. Every year, to demonstrate how hopeless the people are in the Capitol's hands, they host The Hunger Games. One boy and one girl are taken from each district to fight for their lives. When Katniss' sister's name is drawn, she automatically volunteers in her place. I don't want to give too much away so I'll leave it at that. It's... read it. That's all I can say.
