4 reasons why the WWE Universe will always be trending topic
There so much judgment upon the WWE fans, especially women followers because of the opinions of it not being a sport, or promoting violence and extreme content. As fans, we wanted to make a statement about the power of the brand and the impact of it in the industry:
1- It’s a SPORT It can be discussed and debated. It can be defined as pure television entertainment. But have no doubt about it; The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) represents a legitimate SPORT. Their “talent base” is structured with dedicated athletic sports professionals that commit long hours to training and endure the risks that any NFL, MMA or Boxing athlete may bear.
2- It’s a Marketing University The WWE Universe is a successful marketing case study at its best. It only take one hour of enjoying a Monday Night Raw for a Marketing Professional to identify all the opportunities they take to engage with the audience and infiltrate a call-to-action. The story lines, the up selling of merchandise, the big jump to the WWE Network, that made people rolled their eyes and was a success) is just the icing on the cake to this perfect marketing ecosystem they manage. For us, any person that’s interested in the Marketing Industry must take a look and awe themselves with their strategic machinery.
3- It’s feeds from fans: They take to heart the basics; they listen to the fans. The fans are part of the show and the story line and that keeps them as feeling completely engaged with the brand. They know how to speak to the niches under the big market. They execute strategies and story lines that appeal to men, women and children which makes it hard no to get hooked. They have a big involvement with social responsibility issues and giving back to the community, although most of the time they don’t brag about it. Most of all, they understand the power of their fan base and the fuel their engagement means to their success so they constantly cater to it.
4- It’s the master of reinvention Let’s talk about the obvious; they revived the Divas Division with the big reality TV strategy. The Divas Division was the “bathroom break” for loyal fans and this tactic appealed to a whole new niche of females and males that got interested in the story lines. They saw the opportunity and went for it with a bang. As a result, the Divas Division talent got a big celebrity pull and new girls are going up the ladder with the push of the veterans making them work harder and perform better.
On an even gutsier move, they took the biggest risk launching the WWE Network. Many industry gurus talked about the eventual tumble of this initiative but it just was pure innovation strategy. They studied the market moves, the shifts in television and online viewing and it was a win-win situation, the fans will follow and their ROI will be clean. It was a risky move; but a genius one.
At the end, we are true sports fans and appreciate the sports entertainment lifestyle. There is more to the WWE that storylines and superstars; it is a marketing machinery of fan engagement and brand equity development.
